Hi am am new to the whole RV world and very excited. My family and I were wanting to take a Disney vacation in our new Rv and were wondering a few things before we book our trip. We wanted to know if camping at the Ft. wilderness campground in our rv is comparable to staying at another WDW resort? By this I mean that I have stayed at a moderate resort at WDW before and never stayed at Disney in my RV. I wanted to know if you still get to take a bus to the parks and if that is included in your stay and if you get to take advantage of the extra magic hours. Also if you can purchase a park hopper dreammaker pass. Basically I wanted all the same perks as if I were staying at another WDW resort if that were possible? is the campground a resort and if so is it a value or moderatre or maybe deluxe? I have no clue. Does anyone Know?? I am a first time Rv'er and this is all new to me! Help PLEASE any Veteran RVers out there and DISers!!! Thanks!!! Oh one more IMPORTANT thing, what is the best time to go when it shouldn't be packed as badly? We were thinking about the beginning of Jan 2008. Is this a good time?? Sorry for all the questions, my friend told me about this website and said it was vey imformative and friendly. Any help and as many recommendations as possible would be FANTASTIC!!!!! :goodvibes

I think all you mentioned you are correct on. Transportation is free. The site prices vary as to which season it is. Count on about an average of $65 a night unless u get AAA or passholder discount. If you have either be sure to ask if it's available. There is so much to do at FW you may not want to leave. Others will post better info to your ?'s. I was listing the obvious one's.

First of all, yest you are a guest like any other resort. The only thing I can think of that camp site residents are restricted from is the free dining plan when it is offered.

Obviously, Disney reduces the price when it is not a crowded in an attempt to draw folks in. So, look for Value seasons. The 2008 season dates/prices have not been released yet, but you can figure it will be about the same as 2007, which was Value Season: 1/1 - 2/14, 7/29 - 11/15

Check out my FW web page (link below) for more information.

thanks ya'll!! the website is great ! So what is a good loop to reserve to be close to the buses or boats that take you to the parks? But not a pet loop oh and one with full hookups or perferred?

Warning...Warning...Warning

Once you have stayed at FW you will never be totally satisfied with any other campground!

Preferred sites have cable TV which can also access the Internet with the equipment rented from the Outpost. As far as loops, all of them have bus stops but you can request a location near the marine, but there are no guarantees. Be sure to tell MS what type of RV you have, it's length, number of slide outs (if any) and if you have an awning. They should ask this anyway but they didn't ask me when I called in May, I had to ask her to make a note of it.

Due to the uniqueness of FW, it does not fall into the value, moderate, or deluxe resort classifications. It is a "home away from home" resort.

As for what is best, well that is different for each person. You may want to be close to the marina, while I would preffer to be close to the Meadows area. As was said earlier all loops have an internal bus stop to get you anywhere inside FW you need to go, so for your first trip it may be more fun to just let FW pick for you based on the needs of your RV.

just an FYI..
Yes, you can get the Disney Dining Plan when staying at the fort. We were offered it for our trip in July. We passed as we plan to do other things, and have the Disney DIning Experience card which saves us 20%. Love it!

Plus to have the so-called "free" DDP, it would have jumped us to almost $1000. I was like no thank you.

Blessings,
Winnie

We love Ft. Wilderness been going there for around 22 yrs....can't say one bad thing about it...the complex is the best we have ever visited...our 4 boys grew up enjoying the trips to Ft, Wilderness...now our grand's do....you can enjoy all the other resorts while staying at any resort property ..my wife an I enjoy just going to the other one's and looking...maybe a cocktail along the way...get there get set up...get a cart...and enjoy. The hurricane a couple of years ago did do some damage...but things are recovering.

The Mcgee's:) :goodvibes

If you are interested in Jan or Feb. 2008 I would advise calling right away to see if the dates you want are available. Most campgrounds in Fla fill up with snowbirds that time of year.
