First time in Cabins-Great except for the pool.

We just tried the cabins for the first time (we're DVC members) and thought they were fantastic! We have 4 kids and they shared the room with the double bed and the bunk beds and my husband and I had the Murphy bed (which my husband called the "magic bed" because we just folded it up into the wall each day and magically it was made when we came back!).

The attitude and ambiance of the resort was great. Very relaxed and everyone was so nice.

The only downside was the pool. It's nothing special. There are no slides or anything! We ended up visiting a lot of the other pools in Disney which was nice, but I can't believe how boring the pool was.

I'd stay there again, definitely, but I wish Disney would build a better pool.

What? You don't have one in your camper? Glad to see you made it back safe and sound. Hope you had a wonderful trip. I will be leaving in 48 hours for my week of r and r. Anyway, take this for what it is worth, but I heard through the grapevine that the fort will be getting a better pool within the next couple of years. Don't know if they are adding to the existing one or if there is another plan in progress. Heck, I don't even know if it it true, but here's hoping!!

Just so you know, Fort Wilderness used to have their own waterpark called River Country. It was closed a couple of years ago and there is no word on what is going to replace it. I don't think Disney found it necessary to go all out on their pools when they had a waterpark, but I agree that the pools are boring and they need a "makeover" to make it better!

Yes, DVC members are allowed to pool hop. When I checked in, I asked about Fort Wilderness' pool, and the cm told me that I was allowed to pool hop to Wilderness Lodge since we're DVC members, even though we weren't staying "on points." I asked just to be sure. We ended up at Wilderness Lodge, Old Key West, and Polynesian. I think the only ones we aren't supposed to pool hop to are Storm Along Bay and Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Polynesian was beautiful and I'd love to stay there. There is a volcano slide and a waterfall and the music plays underwater! There's also a poolside bar that serves great margaritas.

Just FYI, DVC members are technically only allowed to pool hop when staying at a DVC resort on points. I'm sure the CM at FW did not realize this. I'm sure it's possible to still hop around, but if you cannot present a room ID card that is coded to you staying there on points and the card has to say member, you would be asked to leave. I believe you can find this info. on the member site. Just wouldn't want anyone to be surprised in case you were asked to leave. More than likely, cm's do not check, but you never know!

I thought so, too, that's why I asked when I checked in. We've never pool-hopped before, and I'm such a rule-follower, I probably wouldn't have if the CM had told me not to. That being said, no one questioned us or even looked twice at us. Maybe if the resorts were more crowded it would have been different, I don't know.

I think when the resorts are at capacity and pools are more crowded is when you'd really have to watch for the pool police! It sure would be nice if FW people could share the WL pool since the ft. pool is so plain and ordinary. I bet you wouldn't even have too many people that would even do it so it really wouldn't be a problem at all.

Your room key must have DVC Member printed at the bottom of the key in order for the holder to receive the pool hopping benefit afforded to DVC Members.

If the key does not have these words, pool hopping is not allowed no matter what a CM says.

My parents stay at FW in January, when FW can't get the pool warm enough to swim for my DM. (She has some health issues) The CM's always tell her to go to WL. They've even given her a pass. So, you will find many, many people who will recite the rules here. We still come back to WDW is a resort who likes their guests to be happy, even if they are campers.

I'm glad they're able to accommodate your DM at a pool other than her resort pool. It's nice to know exceptions are made when the need arises. Of course, it has nothing whatsoever to do with campers or non-campers being allowed to pool hop on a regular basis. As DVC members, one of our perks is pool hopping when staying on points. the OP even asked to be sure it was alright to hop on over to other pools and did so with the permission of the FW CM, who didn't realize it wasn't allowed. That is why your DM was given a pass; normally, it is not allowed. I wasn't really reciting the rules, just giving an FYI to a newer member who maybe didn't realize "the rules"
