Any advice?
Make bottles before you go to park? Make them there? Is it difficult and crazy to bring a 7 month old baby to WDW? Will she enjoy it too? Anyone have any baby experiences or do's and don'ts to share? What should I make sure to bring?
We will be staying on site at AKL to take mid-day breaks for all of us including my 5yo and 3.5yo. So I am hoping that will help us with a baby. Thanks for any advice!

We used powder formula and pre made water bottles and only had to add the pre made powder stuff to the water. My grandson is 5 months old and poor little guy use to have heated bottles but after a week of no heating I'll bet he takes it regular now.
Carry more than you think youll need if its hot because they will drink more often too.

We got a stroller fan (It clips on and is battery run) from onestepahead.com
It made our baby feel more comfortable under stroller and poncho when it was raining. (The clear ones were great so they ould see out too) It gets hot so having a fan going gave a breeze and the hum helped put him to sleep a lot too.

Carry the front pack as strollers arent always allowed in lines. It could be a long wait holding a baby.

My daughter carried my grandsons bumper pad and mobile and we put it in his crib at the hotel. It made him feel like he was in his own place and it helped a lot with nights.

Absolutely agree about powdered formula and your own water in bottle. Use bottled water, not the tap water.

I always vote for your own stroller if you can. If not bring a very skin comfortable blanket to lay between them and the rental stroller. Not only will their own be more comforting but protects them from the germs. A light cover to lay over stroller if they fall asleep to protect from sun etc.

As Barbday said, the smell of home's linens will help with sleep.

I think you'll be fine, we never had a problem !

We brought our ds when he was 5mo. old. I used powder formula so it was easy to make the bottle in the park. we prefilled our bottles with water and just added the formula when he was ready. It was so much fun that year with my ds's (at the time 5mo, 6, 4) My 5mo. loved all the characters as well as the rides. he slept in his stroller and it was beautiful weather as we went in nov. I made sure I brought lots of extra clothes. The pool was wonderful for him. Its kind of funny to think back, but he had his first ice cream and posicle in WDW. Actually he ate my entire ice cream bar LOL:) Just go and have a good time WDW brings out the best in every one. I felt it was very easy bringing a young baby to WDW. That trip was much easier than the last he was 15mo. and he is a bit stubborn!:hyper:

If you have any more questions just ask away :)

We will be taking our 9 month old son to the park for his first trip (You will see my obsessive posts around the boards) and I just did a quick rundown for myself of what we are dragging with us. It's staggering!
1. Graco Stroller (stored under plane in stroller bag)
2. Carseat (for the plane)
3. Booster seat (I'm going to ship this to the hotel)
4. Portable Crib (I don't want to take a chance of not having one. Also to be shipped to the hotel)
5. HUGE rolling suitcase
6. 2 duffel bags
7. Diaper Bag
8. Small cheapo stroller to get to and from the gate at the airport.

INSANE isn't it that someone who weighs 20 lbs has all this stuff?

Took my 9mo, and I used the playtex nurser bottles, so I put the powder in the bags and rolled them up, then used water from any restaurant. The bags roll up so small, I must have had 10 of them packed in the diaper bag just to go in the parks. Then just rinsed the nipple after, only needed one bottle. They have really nice comfort stations in every park with rockers if you need them. I personally think my ds enjoyed himself, the characters are so great with the babies and you can take little ones on practically on every ride, except stuff like SM or BTMR.

DS was 8 months when we went in 2002 & LOVED it! Take a look at the picture in my signature. He had a ball with the characters, and they loved him right back.

He was pulling on Pluto's tongue & I tried to get him to let go, but Pluto made me stop trying!

Have a great time! And remember, you are not going to some deserted island. Don't stress, because if you forget something, you will be able to get it there!

I know you didn't ask for feedback on your list, but..
- Why not just gate check your stroller? That way, you don't have to deal w/ 2 strollers
- I can't imagine the hotel not having a pack-n-play available (or if worst case your hotel runs out, I bet they'd get one from another hotel for you.) But, if you're dead set on having your own, it might be cheaper to rent one from someplace like www.abbf.com than shipping one down.

Good tips so far. If you prefer to blend your formula ahead of time (We stay in a timeshare resort so we had access to a blender) you can. We carried a small cooler bag with our ds's blended milk and some blue ice. It kept well for a majority of the day in the bag under the stroller seat. This is the way we prepare it at home and since he's a fussy eater anyway, being away from all familiar places to him we didn't want to risk him eating even less than he normally does.

As far as cribs and playpens, last time we were off-property and so we called our resort in advance and made sure they would have a crib available to us. Disney resorts have playpens in all the DVC villas (but I'm not sure about the other resorts) and I know that full-size cribs are available however there are a limited number of them. You could call and check to make sure but I read somewhere that Disney will provide playpen, crib, or bed rails at all their resorts, if you ask.

I would definitely bring your own stroller for a 7-month old. Preferably one that reclines for naps and has a decent canopy. A few receiving blankets and some clips (like the big binder clips you buy at office supply stores) to hold them on the edge of the canopy for extra shade. Suncreen is highly recommend since you'll be outside a good portion of the day (although Disney does a good job of providing shade even when you're waiting in most lines). A sling or front carrier is a good thing to have for waiting in line.

You can also get more info from allearsnet.com infant & Toddlers FAQ.

Hope you have a great time.

HTH!

LOL,
I'm always open to suggestions on how to make everything easier.
I'd much rather rent a full sized crib if it's possible.
Thanks for the tip!

Each park has a baby changing center. They are awesome! It's such a great, hidden little nook of Disney World. Look on the guide maps for them, check them out before you begin your day...you might come back to them often. They are air condidtioned, quiet and very convienient!

We had a small tupperware bowl we kept formula powder in, and then I carried a bottle of warm water. To "heat it up" a bit I would ask for some hot water in the restaurant we were in, and put a splash of that water into my water, then measure the formula powder into the bottle with the warm water and we had instant warm bottles for the little one. It was easy to ask for it at any counter or sit down place, if they serve coffee they have a hot water spout. But just a splash is needed - it is super hot!

Thanks for the great tips and ideas with the bottles!
Does anyone have solid food tips too? My dd just started eating 2 solid meals a day and may be doing 3 by the time our trip rolls around in 24 days. She eats baby cereal mostly right now and I know that is going to be a pain in the butt to mix up and serve at WDW. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Steph,
my son is always out and about with me and he's the biggest messy eater you ever want to see. He thinks holding the food is way more fun than eating it.
Bring a wipable bib and I always keep a wet washcloth in a plastic bag in the diaper bag to clean up as best we can when we are done.
Babies are messy when they eat, can't help it!
Oh, I also have an extra outfit in the diaper bag if he's a real mess when we are all done...

We have a redheaded boy - just thought I would add that. You can also use glass baby food jars or even the small disposable gladwares to put some dry cereal in. Bring your feeding spoon and some water. My wife has at least a hundred medela breast milk storage bottles from the early days - holds 3 oz and is dishwasher safe. She uses these to store rice and water separately for the diaper bag. Just pour the water into the rice bottle, shake and voila. They also have the single pouches of rice for sale now kind of like the individual instant oatmeal or grits packages if that helps take up less room for you.

Our little guy will be 5 mo when we go. He has some serious feeding issues, so I hope we don't lose our minds. We are determined to just take it slow and avoid the heat as much as possible. Enjoy!

Steph,

Gerber makes an oatmeal cinnamon and pear baby food in a jar. Glass baby food jars are the only glass allowed in the parks. It was my ds favorite when he was a baby.(first trip at 5mo. now 2)
Also I agree bring washable bibs, lots of was cloths. They make the disposable ones. I also brought disposable baby spoons. I also agree put an extra oufit or two in the diaper bag. My DS loved the popsicles. We bought them in all the parks. Just remember to take a little more than you think you need, as the oter post has stated babies are messy eaters. I learned that the hard way.:hyper:

Dh and I are going to WDW in Oct for our 2nd anniversary. Our son is going to be 3 mo. I am torn between bringing him and not...we will only be there from thurs to sun...we are going in May for 5 or 6 days--I planned for that to be DS's first trip at 10 months...I keep second gussing myself--any thoughts

Thanks everyone for the great tips! Makes this 1st trip we are planning seem easier! :)

At 6 months, my daughter loved Disneyland, especially the characters, electrical parade, and Fantasyland rides. She really enjoyed the trip, even though I wasn't expecting her to get much out of it. At 3 months she had a good time too, more so cause I held her all day, but she loved Spectromagic at 3 months in WDW too. Definitely take your baby to see that-they love the lights!

2002Disneybride, I can't speak for your baby, but there's no way I could have left my daughter at 3 months more than 2 hours. She is breastfed (just started cereal this week!) and though she'd take a bottle from me and sometimes her dad, she would not eat from anyone else and would simply starve herself until I came back, and scream with hunger pains. We went on a Disney cruise and to WDW when she was 15 weeks old and I'm so glad she was old enough to go because we otherwise would have had to cancel because although I thought before she was born that I could leave her for the 4 nights there's no way I would have done it. At 3 months she was waking up once during the night to eat, but that combined with being a high-need infant (she always had to be held, swaddled exactly right to sleep, etc.) would have exhausted any caregiver. Anyone else, even my husband, got tired and wanted to put her down after awhile, causing tears and distress. I would definitely take your son at 3 months. My daughter wasn't a problem at all on our trip at that age (only the mad heat of June was), she stayed in the Baby Bjorn most of the day, ate in attractions or while my husband was on a ride she was too small for, cooled off in the baby care centers, and had a great time being with mommy all day!

Oh yeah, DWhittles, we got pack n' plays at Pop, AKL, and the GF and also a real crib at the GF (smaller than normal size, but a crib). The GF pack n' play was so rickety and shaky, which is why we got the real crib. My daughter always slept in my bed so I don't know about trying to make the crib seem like home. If you plan on using the pack n' play, however, bring your own sheet as the GF was out of them when we checked in and did not 'restock' till the next day so they told me to just use a regular sheet. Won't happen everytime, but just in case I'd bring a sheet next time. We also gate check our stroller-easier than carrying 2 around, and we have that Graco CoachRider too, which I think you have (not that I recommend that for anyone in WDW). I carry my daughter in the Bjorn in the airport and then pile the carry-ons (carseat included) in the stroller and just push it to the gate, check it at the plane door and then carry the stuff that short distance. It's easier than carrying the carseat and diaper bag separately, plus pushing the baby, and the stroller is so huge that everything fits in it, no matter how much stuff we have. Then when we get there, we just carry the stuff off the plane and dump it all right in the stroller. Will you be using the booster seat in your resort, or is it for the restaurants? My daughter just started cereal this week so she was only on breastmilk on all our vacations, but we're going to Lake Las Vegas at the end of the month and I was wondering about bringing something to feed her in the room so when you mentioned a booster seat it caught my eye. I had been thinking of feeding her in her stroller, but I was hoping to bring the Maclaren on that trip and she's too low in that to comfortably feed her.
