So ............my daughter leaves for Girl Scout camp tomorrow. Went through the packing list twice to make sure we haven't forgotten anything. WOW, thats a lot of stuff to bring !!!!Looks like she's going away for the whole summer ! I'm just saying.............lol.

She will have a blast. Our camp had a way we could email our kids so they would have a letter to read each morning and they would post pics so we could see them. :thumbsup2

I'm sure she will have fun too :) I thought there was a way we could email them a letter but it's not in the welcome package. I'll have to check with them tomorrow. I meant to drop a letter in the mail today for her but forgot :( I do see a fax number so maybe I'll just do that, lol. I know they don't have access to email directly. Sucks cause that sounds really cool that your kids could post pictures.

Girl scout came is honestly the greatest amd best part about Girl Scouts even after I quit girl scouts I continued going because the resident camps are the best! I haven't been for a few years here(teen talking) but I really do miss it and plan to go next year before my senior year. The memories I've made at those camps have been amazing from sleeping under the stars next to the hood canal to stealing a couch and carrying it over a mile to our cabin to learning how to ride a horse I loved it. I know I love going to the more high tech camps sometimes where there's a blob, tubing, water slides, indoor cabins I've even going to one in a week but there's something about the simplicity of a girl scout camp which I just love the good food, sitting around the camp fire singing songs that you just cam get anywhere else and I think we sometimes forget that when we go to the fancy camps your daughter will love it :)

If you haven't left already..... I always wrote a week's worth of letters and left them when I dropped my daughter off. I just wrote Monday, Tues, etc on them and she got them one at a time.

Oh wow, thats's an awesome idea !!!!

@ Disneydance, thanks I'm kinda jealous I can't go now, lol. I did always want to go to sleep away camp as a kid but my parents would never send me, lol. She originally wanted to go to one of those fancy camps but we just couldn't afford it. It was like 900/wk !! She could go to 3 weeks of GS camp for that !

Thanks for the idea to take the letters with me! My DD also goes to camp today. And I have been trying to figure out how to mail them so she will get one per day. It never occurred to me just to take them today!

She has been for 3 night before but this time it is a week. I am a little concerned about the heat. The temps in the upper 90's and "real feel" over 100. I know kids don't notice it like adults but still that is really hot to sleep in a tent!

Diabolic which camp is your DD going to? Mine is going to Tukaho in MO.

She'll be at camp Graham in NC. It's only about an hour from here thankfully. It has been super hot here as well. I sent a fan with her for the tent and she has a portable one. The camp she'll be at has no a/c not even in the dinning hall ! They say you get used to it after awhile. I sure hope that's true.

Tukaho has no air anywhere either. I keep telling myself DD is always cold anyway. Right now in her bed she is covered with one of those blankets made out of fake fur! And I have the air set on 78 so maybe she will be ok! I thought about a fan but the tents don't have electricity. I did pack her little fan she used at Disney.

To be honest I don't like it when my kids are away from me. I would never say anything to them but I get really worried. I'll be glad when the week is over and she is home! ;)

that's a good deals.. ours is $475 a week. :scared1:I keep saying as a leader to 3 troop and a service unit manager my daughters should go for free lol

Mine leaves tomorrow also. She is going to a camp in NY. Its her second years there and she had a great time last year. I mailed out a letter friday and will do another one monday.

Sleeping bag is in the wash now.. I am behind. I had her pack her back but will double check. I had her put each days of clothes in a ziplock bag. Just makes it more organized.

I am a bit behind too, lol. Sheets are still in the drier but will only take a min to grab. I got one of those huge zip lock bags to put her bedding in. I figure she can just throw all her dirty sheets, towels etc in there when it's time to come home. I also had her pack each outfit in a ziplock. Her troop leader has them do it when they go as a troop and it works out well.

Wow, your camp in a bit more expensive. I guess everything in NY does cost more though. You would think as a leader that they'd give you some kinda deal. Maybe you need to become a camp director instead :)

Wow these prices are much higher then we paid! For 5 nights (sun - fri) we paid $225. And until now I thought that was kinda high for the "luxurious" accommodations. I guess it isn't too bad! I hope all our girls have a safe and fun week!

My dd says that the dining hall at Tuckaho has A/C. I know they have huge fans but Sarah said that it was cool there.

Tuckaho is the best of the GS camps near STL- imo :)

Is it the water themed week? My dd loved that!

That's what it cost for 5 days of day camp here

We are heading to the first week of sleep away GS camp today too - we leave in about 45 minutes. A bit nervous for the 7 1/2 yr old but know they will both have a great time.

Thanks for the letter idea! I can email each day but am going to stick a note in their suitcases right now so they can see it when they unpack!

Our cost is $225 per camper for the week as well (Sunday-Friday). I guess it depends on location (therefore property costs, taxes, etc) and maybe how much the council makes from cookie sales, etc to offset the costs of the camps and how many camps the council maintains?

Not sure what I will do with all my peace and quite this week

My son just got back from his 1st week at Boy Scout Camp. When we were packing for him, I laughed at the list of suggested things. For one week they reccommend at least 4 pairs of underwear and 5 pairs of socks. You know that's not Girl Scout Camp.

Wow $300 is a good deal for girl scout camp!! I was looking at the brochure this year and they wanted to Charge $700-$900 for 6 days!! Honestly that's one of the reasons why I chose not to go this year... The fancy camp I'm going to this year is only $300 for 7 days which really is a steal!

I  girl scouts! I was one and a leader as an adult, my mom was a leader, her mom was a leader....

Interesting to see what other camps cost across the US cost--here in Texas my daughter leaves next Sunday to Friday for $350. It's in a cabin, but nothing fancy (no horses or boating)--she wanted to try out OWL PROWL. She gets to stay up all night and sleep all day!

I tried to explain to her that there will be other sessions going on where the girls are at regular camp in other cabins (meaning they'll be loud all day then try to sleep at night; she'll be doing the opposite).

I'm curious how it'll work :)

And that's a GREAT idea about letters for each day! Tomorrow I'm going to go down the supply list... permissions slips, etc...

How was drop off everyone? Ours went pretty well. She is with 3 of the 5 friends from our troop. I don't know why they would split them up 3 in one cabin and 2 in another? But they did. All the girls were upset by that. She is in a cabin this year and I am happy about that! Last year they were in the covered wagons. I left her happy and excited about the week.

I have been in the dinning hall but only in the winter (for our scout rout) so maybe it is air conditioned. That would be nice.

That's actually alot of clothes compared to the boys in our troop.
Go to camp in uniform (required). Changed into bathing suit and class B Tshirt for swim test. Wear that all week, only changing to go back into the same tan shirt for supper each night (required).

They might wear/change socks if doing a hiking MB. Most of them are in/on the water (or shooting range)- so they're all in Tevas.
