First time Fort Wilderness with trailer questions

Hi, I am planning a trip to Fort Wilderness campground in June, Just bought my trailer(about 30ft.) I requested loop 300 because we are camping with our dog, I also requested a pull through and was told that all of the sites are pull through, is this correct? is it true of all preffered sites, just in the 300 or the whole campground? any suggestions or info is much appreciated thanks

You got some bad info. None of the sites in the 300 loop are pull through. There are only two pull through sites in the whole campground. However, you shouldn't have any trouble backing a 30' trailer into any of the sites on the 300 loop.

I'm thinking that you probably asked Central Reservations about the pull through sites...have found they are not very informed regarding the campground. I have called the campground directly when I have had questions regarding loops and such...they are much more helpful, and informative. I know that last time we were at the Wilderness Lodge, we rented bikes and rode through campground looking at the various loops. We liked that the 300 loop was both "preferred"..meaning sewer, water, electric, and cable...and also a dog loop.

If you are located in the back side of the 300 loop near the canal then it could be very tight trying to back in a trailer. The site in the beginning or the end of the loop are easier to back into because you don't have to deal with the curve of the loop in the back section. Even though the hurricanes took out alot of trees they still pose challenges when trying to get in some of the sites. The 700 loop is excellent - pet section, cable, no curved road and the sites are more spacious.

You didn't mention your level of experience towing a trailer. I would be a most excellent idea, though, if you practice backing up in a parking lot somewhere (preferably an empty lot). With a trailer that size, backing into many sites at FW will be a challenge. I have a 21ft trailer and have been towing for well over 20 years and have, on one occassion, been assigned a spot at FW which was virtually impossible for me to back into, and have had a few which were difficult at best. Much of FW was designed in the 70's, in particular the lower numbered loops, before RV's had achieved the lengths they have today.

We were there last week in the 800 loop, canal side. We arrived Saturday morning and were freaked out when we saw how tight it would be to back into our site. Fortunately, our "neighbors" were so welcoming and the guys got together and helped hubby get the trailer situated. the sites entances are close together but radiate like the spokes of a wheel so once you are IN, you have a lot of private spave on your site and don't feel crowded at all.
