We made our first DVC trip to SSR last week, and wanted to give a first time DVC'ers review of SSR.
We stayed in a first floor 2 bedroom unit, which was great for our family of 4 (we have a 15 year old and a 4 old). We loved the 2 bath rooms, and seperate bedrooms.
Buying into DVC SSR site unseen... the resort was much better than we had anticipated. We loved the location near DTD. It is a short walk to DTD (10-15 minutes with a 4 year old in tow), which gave us the ability to have access to a wide range of meals. We liked the 2 bedroom layout and decore.
Some items that we did not like or were surprized to find...
The bath room fans are annoying, since they are motion activated. Both of the toilets in our unit leaked (between the bowl and tank) when flushed, but maintanence did fix them within a day. A number of drawers in the dressers were stuck from the wood stain drying. I had to really tug on them to break them free, and one drawer was not correctly installed. I hated the sleeper sofa, since when you sat in it the seat cushions sank below the front frame edge. This made it uncomfortable on the back of ones legs. None of master bedroom lights would turn-on, and the alarm clock was not working either. I managed to track the problem down to a GFI that needed to be reset, which was located behind the end table next to the King size bed.
One thing that we will bring on our next stay is a step stool for our 4 year old. Since she could not reach the sinks in the bathrooms to brush her teeth, or wash her hands.
We agree the swimming pools will become crowded once the other buildings open.
Over all we loved SSR, but DVC needs to make sure all the rooms are ready for use before letting members stay in them. The leaking toilets and stuck dresser drawers were annoying problems that could have been prevented.
