First Time at Disney

We are staying at the Poly (Trying to learn this disney talk LOL)
and we are staying for 7 nights. I just changed the SCI FI to the Coral Reef hope it was a good choice but kids realy into fish and things like that. Just scared I am doing too many buffets. and Yea i would consider Signature Dining.. thanks

You are doing just great with DIS-speak, so don't worry about that! You are in a good location at the Poly, and you have two great restaurant's right there: 'Ohana and Kona. The food at 'Ohana is served family-style but it is a fun place to eat (breakfast or dinner, but my family prefers dinner)and your kids would probably dig it. They have fun games, like coconut-rolling contests, for your younger two. My DS has always loved eating there; the grilled meats are good. The tropical drinks are great too. Kona is one of my families favorite restaurants. It is good for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The sticky wings are yum and your kids will probably like the smoothies.

Our family also likes Narcoossee's, at the GF, on the monorail line from the Poly. It is an octogon-shaped restaurant, specializing in seafood, and it has beautiful views of the lagoon, and the MK fireworks. We also love the California Grill (CG) at the top of the Contemporary Resort (CR). The food and service is excellent, and the view simply amazing. This is another great resort to watch the MK fireworks. Both of these restaurants are expensive.

Other options to consider: Yak & Yeti at AK (really cool theming, good portions), 50's Prime Time at DHS (again, very cool theming with kid-friendly food and waitstaff that love to tease/spoof), Beaches & Cream at the BC Resort (good burgers/shakes in an old-fashioned soda fountain setting), Jiko (signature dining and amazing...one of my favorite restaurants in all of WDW) at AKL or Boma. I am not a huge fan of buffets at WDW, but Boma is the bomb (breakfast or dinner). What is fun about a trip to AKL to eat is that you can see the animals on the savannahs from the public viewing areas. Lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern (LLT) in the MK is another restaurant my family loves. Dinner there is family style, and traditional turkey with fixings, and not my favorite, but lunch is really good and is a nice escape from the park mid-day. At EPCOT, the Rose & Crown (in England in the World Showcase) is fun. It has a traditional English pub feel and the fish and chips are good. We also like Chefs de France and Le Cellier. Epcot has plenty of good restaurants.

My husband and adult daughter are going to Disney for one day in early January. He was there once many years ago, she was never there. What to do for best Disney experience in one day?

Since you are staying at the Poly, I would recommend having breakfast at Kona one morning. It is a non-character restaurant, the prices (if you decide to pay out of pocket for it) are not that bad and the food (in my opinion) is really good. You could have breakfast there and then just hop on the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom for the day, if that is how your schedule plays out.

The rest of your choices seem great!

Great idea on Coral Reef. We love that one and LeCellier. (except we're having lunch at LeCellier since dinner is now 2 credits).

At Hollywood Studios, we don't really care for any of the quick service places so we usually eat at 50's Primetime and Sci-Fi. This has caused us to be over by 2 table services for our dining plan. What I did was look in advance at all the menus and add up what we would probably spend. I selected the two least expensive places and we're paying out of pocket for those 2 table services. (for us, the cheapest two are Plaza and 50's Primetime).

At Magic Kingdom, we like Cosmic Rays. Cute little alien show in there. And it has a burger fixins bar.

At Epcot, for a counter service we are going to try the fish & chips counter service next to Rose and Crown this year. We've eaten the fish and chips twice before at Rose and Crown. The first time they were great. The second they were a little flat tasting (maybe needed salt).

You will love breakfast at the Wilderness Lodge place. There's some photos of our breakfast skillet meal and my husband's omlette in our 2010 trip report below.

Enjoy your trip!!

Counter service options:

Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavillion at Epcot.

Cosmic Rays at MK

Flame Tree BBQ at AK

Backlot Express at HS.

All good choices... and at MK there is also Columbia Harbor House, and Pecos Bills.

Decisions - decisions! If you're staying at the Poly - definitely try Kona... we go every trip. We have never had a bad meal there... the kids will love the Kona Kone too. Definitely keep Whispering Canyon Cafe too. We were pleasantly surprised with Coral Reef... good choice too.

Don't try to do everything when you go... you'll be less stressed and it will be more magical! Planning is half the fun! Enjoy! :yay:

How exciting!
O'Hana's is one of our all time favourites. The food, the resort, the staff, everything is fantastic. I think you'll really enjoy it.
I am a big fan of Crystal Palace as well, I've always found the food to be delicious, although the staff is a bit harried. Friendly, but no time to chit chat!
Whispering Canyon is a lot of fun and your kids will really enjoy it. The staff make it extra special! The milkshakes are KILLER! Don't miss out on that. The food portions are enormous, so don't be afraid to ask to take your dessert with you and enjoy it at the pool later on. They will give you forks and napkins as well.
Sci Fi was okay, the food wasn't terrific but it's worth checking out just for the atmosphere alone. We might have been there on an 'off' day too, because I've heard good reviews for it as well.
I haven't tried the rest but have heard good things! Every family is so different. My family didn't enjoy Boma at all, they aren't adventurous eaters. I loved it, but if we had to pay out of pocket (we go when there's free dining) I would have been disappointed as my son ate 13 chocolate chip cookies for dinner and my daughter ate potatoes. :rotfl2:
We also really enjoyed Chefs de France in Epcot. This time we're going with just counter service so we can just eat on the fly and not be tied to a reservation. Have a great time!

I would recommend either Magic Kingdom or Epcot. It depends on how "Disney" they want to get. Magic Kingdom is all of the nostalgia that you love and expect. Epcot is a little more 'grown up' I guess you could say.
Magic Kingdom will give them a wonderful, magical experience and if I had just one day it's where I would go. They can get through a ton of rides and attractions with it being just the two of them as well.
My suggestions:
Mickey's Philharmagic
Pirates of the Caribbean
Haunted Mansion
Buzz Lightyear
Space Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain
And see if there's a parade that they would be interested in as well.
For eating - we really enjoyed Cosmic Rays for a quick yet filling meal, Crystal Palace is a great buffet but pricey and you'd need a reservation.
And a Dole Whip is a must if they like pineapple!
The rest that they see is just a bonus!
