First stay at SSR- now...

Christmas at the World... My idea of heaven:cloud9:. However, I don't much like crowds so I choose to go when it is less crowded. SSR is my home resort and I dearly love it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and have the right to express them, especially here where we all LOVE Disney:goodvibes. You won't get grief from me. The more people who don't like it means an easier reservation for me:lmao:...

Enjoy your stay at Disney and at SSR.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year:grouphug:.

We just arrived for our first stay at SSR. Received the text 15 minutes ago saying it is ready. We are in room #3532, great location. Let me just say our first impression is pretty bad. We are in a studio. We definetely like AKV the best. Sorry, but that is just our opinion. The lighting is pretty dim, a dinosaur of a tv, the decor is pretty lame, no hidden mickies is the first thing our 2 DS said. Definetely will not stay here again. I wonder why it is more points compared to AKV??

as others have pointed out, not sure what your basis is really on...I haven't seen anything that you can say is truly disappointing. I am amazed you think the lighting at SSR is dim compared to AKV....some of the darkest rooms on property (due to all the dark wood decor).

Sounds like maybe you feel stuck at SSR and just couldn't get AKV and it falls into the "self fulfilling" prophecy" category of dreading staying somewhere you didn't want to begin with. Sorry it isn't going better, but not sure anything would have made it better to begin with, so try to enjoy your trip.

Geez. I'm staying at SSR in March (2 mos. 3 weeks 6 days to be exact :cool1:) and I'm not seeing too many positive reports. I was so looking forward to trying something new but now I'm a little nervous! :sad2:

Never base your views on someone else's opinion. Everyone has a different view of resorts. For example, one of my colleagues views OKW as the best, whereas it's my least favorite. As for me, I pick SSR as my family's first choice. My teenagers love the easy access to DTD.

very well said.:thumbsup2

To each his own - we need those that do not care for SSR . . . .the rocking chairs are getting so you need ARRs . . . .(Advanced Rocking Reservations)

Merry Christmas All! :santa:

What I do to be in one of those chairs right now!! View of DTD...beats seeing fog, rain, more rain and a flooded back yard.

Yes. SSR is really a great resort. We too had the small pool almost all to ourselves last June. And we did love walking around in the morning. The grounds are beautiful. We were lucky enough to have a DTD view. SSR is a great resort. We love AKV too. We are home at AKV and OKW.

I've stayed at SSR 2X. It's not my first choice, but then that's been my fault, for booking too late.

The first time we had a DTD view, which was nice.
The walked anywhere stunk.
And the dresser draw knobs we half falling off.

The second time we stayed theree had a room overlooking the golf course. Nice, but not too awful exciting. I sat on the balcony watching golfers one whole day; see the next paragraph...

No room service!!!! :scared1:
You heard me, none! My daughter was sick with a bug for 24hrs. She's too young to leave alone, otherwise I would have went to the CS. I even called the lobby. So, I was at my husbands mercy. He took the other daughter to the park and when he came back brought me something.

No, IMHO, not the best resort. But as a last resort, I'll stay at Disney rather than off site.
For our upcoming trip, I had, again, to book SSR. But my waitlist came through and knocked SSR out of there! Hello AKL. LOL.

Please don't get offended by my family not liking SSR. We're just happy that our waitlist came thru for this week. We wanted to try it here, that's why it was our second choice for our waitlist. The CM's are great here. The crowds are very heavy everywhere. While walking to DD yesterday morning, a CM came next to us on a golf cart and asked if we wanted him to drive us there- our boys thought that was the cooling thing. We love all the decorations that are everywhere.

Well, I guess anything beats shoveling in N IN!!:rotfl: We lived in Granger for awhile and are now in S IN.

Appears you are going forward with a positive attitude and I hope the crowds are manageable!

Have fun and Happy Holidays!! :santa:

...No room service!!!! ....

If a DVC Resort is not connected to a Disney hotel, it doesn't have room service. But each villa has either a kitchenette or full kitchen and you can make anything you like there. In 13 years of Disney visits (mostly DVC), we've only used room service one time. And I can't remember the reason for it. But it was at VWL.

Most timeshares don't have room service. At least the ones I've stayed at didn't.

Yep, 6" of snow feel last night, so you know all about N IN. We do have a positive attitude. Like I said, SSR is not our first choice, but are making the best of it. Again, sorry if I offended everyone.
I just can't say enough about how crowded everywhere is. We are glad we had a chance to come this time of year, but will not come back again. We are going to stick to May/June and October.

Happy First Day of Winter. It was 82 degrees here in NW Louisiana today. Broke a record from 1889. I think that trumps your 6" of snow.

Is that where the sun went? Heck, that trumps Southern California where all those folks visiting Disneyland are making the best of the rain, lots of rain.

We are here now in the Grand Stand and checked in on the 19th in a 2bd villa and love it. We stayed in a 2bd at BLT on the 15th pre cruise and we thought it was great too, but i see what some are talking about when they say the furnishing are quickly wearing out. SSR is our home resort and we are glad to call it home.:santa:

I think that you can form an opinion of a resort in the first 2 minutes! It's nothing in particular, just a general feeling that you have. Espically if you have a favorite resort choice that you didn't get for your trip, and you already feel as though you have to "settle" for where you end up staying.
I agree with OP, as we stayed at SS last summer when we couldn't get a reservation anywhere else. Didn't care for it at all. Just had no personality to us. Others love it though and may not care for my favorite, the Boardwalk.

again, very well said. We went and visited our home resort (Kidani) last night to see the decorations. I'm not sure if we settled, but we wanted to really be here this time of year for the first time. We thought SSR would be our best chance because of the size, so that is why we chose it for our 2nd choice. Yeah, we don't care for it, but, we're here as a family and that's all that counts:). Off to Epcot this morning, then HS this evening to see the Osborne Lights. DS's are hoping to ride TT and Soarin first thing- couldn't last night or didn't want to wait the 120 minutes for each:scared1:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions about each resort. Don't apologize!! Have a wonderful time!! I love SSR, but my DH seriously dislikes it. But then, I am happy staying anywhere at Disney :)

When we visited SSR back in 2008 in order to tour the DVC models, I wasn't impressed. The resort, while beautiful, just didn't "speak to me". After I bought in, our first trip in 2009 was to SSR and I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. Unfortunately, the main pool was closed for refurbishment. Since I was planning to cook in the villa for the entire trip, we didn't need to be close to the CS, so we were happy with being in the Paddock section. We had a beautiful view of the water "geiser" and it was so peaceful. I had my very first relaxing Disney vacation.....ever. They are now building the new theme pool exactly where we stayed that time, so I imagine that section is going to become more popular.

Since then, we have stayed at AKV-Kidani in a 2BR savannah room and loved it. Our last trip was a 1BR lake view at BLT. To me, BLT couldn't be beat for the location, but we loved AKV a lot. Our next trip in April is to BCV, so we're looking forward to a whole new experience.

In the end, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to SSR again....as well any of the resorts we have already experienced, again.

Enjoy your vacation!

went to Epcot this morning. We drove from SSR to BWV, then walked from there. That is the way to go, in our opinion. The crowds were VERY HEAVY. We were the 2nd group on Soarin. As we exited, the wait was already up to 70 minutes. Got fast passes for TT. When it was our time, the wait for TT was 60 minutes. Our 2 DS's did 3 KP adventures- what a great time! They, along with me and DH, really enjoyed world showcase. Back at the resort to get freshened up and then off to HS for the Osborne Lights and who knows what else.

no hidden mickies is the first thing our 2 DS said.

SSR is our home resort, and believe me my DD and DS have scoured our 2BR for hidden mickeys. Never stayed in the studio, but FYI in the 2BR there are hidden mickeys in the headboard of the queen size bed and the king size bed (not sure if you have the same headboard) the are made out of three flowers.. The breakfast bar in the 1 and 2BR have a hidden mickey on the end of the bar facing the dinner table too, so DVC did work a couple into the design.
