"First rule of leadership, Princess...." ~Overdosing on Ice Cream

They did the sea first, but my aunt's husband took their whole family, 35 of them, for his 70th b'day. Needles to say, they had a wonderful time. :thumbsup2

That sounds like an amazing family vacation!

I loved your reveal! :thumbsup2 See! He's really happy! The year will go by fast, trust me. We booked our cruise turned Mexico vacation 18 months ago - seemed like forever, and we leave in 1 month and 4 days!

I hope it doesn't go to fast!

hey cooL! I love the modern and traditional gifts! So cool :thumbsup2

Ya know what.. all this talk of the Melting Pot (Do you read oybolshoi??) has me all stirred up. I'm home from work right now and changing my clothes..we're going to try the Melting Pot Happy Hour tonight!

If you want me to highjack your thread with food porn let me know! :rotfl:
I need to start reading that blog. Do they have the vodka-infused pineapple martini at your Melting Pot?

I've been lurking again. I loved the reveal. The Irovy and the candy and everything. Plus the Melting Pot is my favorite resturant. I love the mexican style cheese and the smores chocolate... Drool. Whenever we go we always have such a good time.

Anyway I'm here and I am sure you both will have an amazing time on your cruise.

Thank you.

I made us branch out from our usual cheese and chocolate choice this time, and it was really good. We had Gouda cheese and it was so yummy!

Great reveal!!

Thank you!:goodvibes

Yummmm!! We just got home and I am STUFFED!

After getting permission (thanks, stagemom!) and encouragement (thanks elizabeth) I will happily post my highjack.. ahem... I mean review!

I decided to walk to our nearby bustop and take public transit downtown to meet my DH after work. I am saying this so I can show you the beautiful little path I walk through to go between streets. The pacific northwest is SO beautiful! But don't tell anybody.. tell them it rains and it's miserable.
:rolleyes1

To get an idea of the size of those tree's, the fence in the corner is a little bit higher than my head.

30 min later I arrived in downtown PDX at my desired destination. I was alone and I had my camera and I was fairly uncomforable pulling it out and snapping this picture like a big DORK so I did it as fast as I could whilest walking and not stopping..came out pretty good, considering  What I won't due to post my PORN!

You have to go down underground to get to the restaraunt.

Stairway to lactose hell... in a good way!

This place is EXTREMELY expensive. The menu can be found at www.meltingpot.com Typically a meal for two includes salad, cheese fondue, a broth fondue to cook your entre meat (raw meat that comes to your table), and chocolate fondue and costs $100 per couple! You can do these things ala carte as well. But still ...YIKES! (insert blue hair-raised guy)

Do not get sad my friends of lesser means (that means me!) as I have found a way for most all to enjoy the Melting Pot.. HAPPY HOUR!!! :cool1: From 4-6:30 ish you can get many different items at a sale price. We had three appetizers. The first one was regularly $12 and we got it for $4 during the HH price fest...

Warm Spinich Artichoke dip with Veggies, Bread, and Granny Smith apples

This was quite good and for $4 you can't go wrong! It was warm and cheesey and fun.

Next I ordered a lobster mousse thing with caviar.. I would never order this typically because my DH does not like seafood but for $2.00 I said, what the heck! We were out with some friends and the other DH likes seafood too so I was glad to have somebody to share it with. Even though the price was so cheap the portions were large!

I went with the plan that I was determined to get food porn pics but I STILL FORGOT and ate stuff before I got my camera out! Sorry bout that... originally there were about 7 of these little lobster cups.

This was Oh-Kay.. but it was cute and fun and cheap and I like that!
2008-8-22TheMeltingPot008-1.jpg

It had some caviar on top which was extra cute and reminded me of being on a cruise as that's the only place I've ever had caviar. I wouldn't need to order this again. There wasn't much flavor to it. The texture was really poufy... but a little too cold for seafood... you know what I mean? I want lobster warm with butter.. or crab can be cold in big hunks on a salad but this was sort of neither of those things.

Our final appetizer was a mushroom pate... (DH wants to know how they force feed the mushrooms to get their livers so plumped up and dee-lisious). This was also cold and poufy floofy in texture. I liked it ok but I guess I just need more texture. I liked the bites that included green onion bits as that gave me something to feel in my mouth. But the flavor, overall, was good. You could tell it was mushrooms.

floofy mushroom stuff... also two-bucks! woo-hoo (out of graphics.. had to edit that one to a written-only "woo-hoo"

The service was definitely weird. I think service is really a personal thing but this was a weird situation (that worked in our favor). We got there really early and were practically the only ones there. 2 different servers kept coming by and saying the other would be with us in a moment and taking our drink orders (we arrived in a staggared way.. me then dh and his friend then the other DW)... anyway, I think the guy who wasn't supposed to be our waiter just Kept us as his table. He told us he was sorry that he was acting weird but he was on a lot of oxycontin due to a strained ligament in his shoulder. :scared1: LOL It's so uncomfortable to have somebody in pain be "serving" you! It's like... um.... no, let me get that everytime he brought something to us he winced! ... poor guy!!! :headache: But he was really nice (or really high) and he kept bringing us extra bread and at least one and perhaps two extra dessert plates (I'm not sure if it was supposed to come with one plate of dippers but we got THREE! ) ... okay.. moving on.

Next we ordered salads as they were also on sale for HH. I had the spinich and mushroom which came with a burgandy dressing (and unmentioned red onion slivers  ). It was ok.. I thought it was going to be warm/wilted.. but it wasn't. DH's got California salads with blue cheese and walnuts and raspberry vinagrette... the other DW got the chef which came with hardboiled egg, cucumber, and tomato with an un-recognizable and non annoying (she has the palette of a 2 year old ...that come from her, NOT ME!) dressing. I am still getting my food porn wings so I missed the salad course! :scared1: but it's here in the back ground......

It's like arts and crafts for grown ups... but you can eat the paste!
2008-8-22TheMeltingPot013-1.jpg

Ok, I got ahead of myself with that picture. That is the Wisconsin Cheese fondue choice. It has some white cheeses but then the kicker was a giant scoop (oxycontin sized scoop) of blue cheese. I love Blue but it was pretty overpowering. So, to make up for it (the oxycontin gave him Steve Austin Hearing as we did not complain but just mentioned it at our table) the waiter added even more regular white cheese to our pot! Score!

The cheese fondue would have been $16 but was on sale for $10 during HH (happy indeed!). The other choices were traditonal swiss, cheddar, fiesta cheddar and something else... I forget.

When the stick hits your mouth with a big piece of cheese that's... Amore
2008-8-22TheMeltingPot011-1.jpg

And next.. the piece de resistance!!! DESSERT!!!!! :dance3: :dance3:

There were a few options. Because I'm a big, fat copy-cat I went off menu with my own creation inspired by the exact creation that Oybolshoi and her DH came up with and I read about here on the disboards! It was originally supposed to be dark and white chocolate but we asked (and were granted) dark and milk chocolate... MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm! This was FUN!

A close up of that goody plate reveals: Banana's, strawberry's, graham and chocolate cookie-dusted marshmallows, mini rice crispy treats (my favorite!), mini brownie bites (tasty!), poundcake (a favorite of many...), and a large slice of cheesecake!

If you want my dee-sert and you think it's sexy come on sugar let me know!
2008-8-22TheMeltingPot014-1.jpg

So like I said, originally the guy asked us if we wanted the small or large portion (The chocolate was NOT on sale for the HH but I already knew this). 1/2 our group said large and 1/2 said small. I had researched (SHOCKING!) and knew that the small was $15 and the large was $30 so I said with MUCH class (Ha ha ha!) that we would enjoy the small and possibly have another different flavored fondue if we needed to continue our dipping feast. He seemed happy with my sly calculation and said something about seeing what he could dig up in the kitchen (I like "happy" waiters)... he came out with two treat plates which I figured was probably our "score" but then he WAY overdid it with the third plate which I thought we were going to hurl through the window  ! It was SO good but we were SUCH piggie wiggies and we were STUFFED!

Okay...So let's tally up the damage. I had the drink special which was a margarita for $5, DH had ice tea, other DH had 2 draft beers and the other DW had a bottle of beer. So we had appetizers, fondue, dessert, and drinks for.......$61.75! Can you believe that! It would have been a $200 check for the four of us WIHOUT DRINKS OR APPETIZERS had we ordered the regular meal! We did not miss the meat at all. It was SO RIGHTEOUS! :woohoo: We tipped him $20 ...which, conveniently, was probably the exact amount of his next oxycontin co-pay, and we were happy and rolled away. :rotfl:

We know you can chose any airlines for your highjacking needs but we want you for flying Travelmel-Air... you will now be returning to your regularly scheduled TR....
:cool2:
