First road trip from nj to Pensacola:help!

Hello folks- we are attempting our first road trip with kids (8 year olds) .. We will be traveling from jersey to Pensacola. Need advice on best way to go.. Highway with best rest stops, somewhat scenic etc... We always fly but not financially able to do this year. I'm real nervous about going this far.. Traffic, accidents, kids getting sick etc. Need some good stories to ease my fears.
