Hi
My flight will be arriving around 3, and I've decided that the first night I should celebrate my courage on my ability to fly alone and brave my first solo trip. So I decided to go to an rather expensive dinner for me. I've been to Jiko before and I have loved it. I am a bit worried about dining alone, however I have done it before at diner like restaurants , not a rather upscale one. I have my phone, but Im thinking that that might seem odd or at the worst rude . However, I don't want to slim down my choices just because ill be dining solo.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. I'd go and enjoy dinner. Nobody will likely give it a second thought. Have fun!

I don't think anyone will think that using your phone is odd or rude, especially if you're enjoying a nice relaxing meal by yourself. I've heard that place is great! I might have to check it out next time I'm there, even if I'm going alone. Enjoy!

I recently ate at Jiko solo and they sat my near the prep chefs. It was awesome! The chefs take the time out to talk and go over the menu and give you there recommendations. My waiter was awesome as well. If you feel like it, ask for the chef station. If you aren't into that, don't even worry about using your phone. I watched football one afternoon while at lunch. I really don't care what anybody thinks about me at this point. Just go and have fun and enjoy Jiko. I can't recommend the beef short rib enough.

My opinion for what it's worth is that it's a better use of your time to enjoy your surroundings than to get absorbed in your phone. The previous poster's idea of sitting near the prep chefs sounds awesome. Or, you could see if anyone from DisBoards will be in the area that evening and could meet you for dinner. If you do end up dining solo, it's a chance to notice the thematic details even more.

You could always bring a book or a magazine to look at as well. I don't think that it's rude to occupy yourself as you'd like while dining solo. Have fun!

where do you request to sit there? When you go in?

I actually didn't request to sit near the prep chefs, they offered it to me. I assume if you asked and the section was open, they would sit you there. I figured they didn't want to waste a table for a party of 1, which is fine by me. Good luck and enjoy.

I have my kindle ap on my phone and always read when I'm eating solo and I've been to some very upscale restaurants. No one blinks an eye. Enjoy
