Wiley (pronounced like the famous coyote's name). if we had had a boy, DH wanted to name the kid this. In my opinion, you might as well have tattooed "kick me" on the kid's forehead or something.

The dad of one of DH's classmates was named Richard Lick and he used the knickname for his first name.

Depends on the last name, but yes, I'd exercise extreme caution in naming a child Richard. Years ago, I met someone named Richard Pound. Imagine the jokes on that one.

Exactly. Richard/Dick can be a wonderful name for many but with others, such as in my family, it wouldn't be the best first name to have.

Just wanted to add to the Richard conversation. Dick is also a surname so there are definitely a few first names that should not be used if it does happen to be your last name LOL

i get that sometimes parents want to give their kids unique names to make them special or creative. But honestly, a name is not going to make someone creative, genetics is what does that.
My kids have plain, common names....as a teenager I had fanciful and oddly spelled names in mind for my future kids, but when the time came tonhabe kids all I could think of was my "future" 4 year old trying to learn to spell that name and teach people to pronounce it, so i went with more common names.

It hasn't been popular here in decades. It's like the Sue of Lisa of boys names. I do know many middle aged men named John (and it's DH's middle name).

Each one of my 3 kids has a friend named John (middle school and high school aged). Its not really popular like other names but there are enough people out there who like traditional names, or use family names for their kids.
