First Meal suggestions??

We have always done Chef Mickey's our first night when we get to DisneyWorld. But our boys are now 20 and 14 years old, so maybe it is time to try a different first meal. Here are the requirements:

We will not be in the parks yet so it has to be a place that is at one of the hotels or Downtown Disney.

We will not have a car.

The 14 year old is a picky eater (think Chicken strips, pizza, loves desserts, etc)

Does not have to be a character meal.

Any great suggestions?????

Thanks

Where are you staying?

We loved The WAve at Contemporary- they are VERY accomodating (we had an 11 year old on the adult dining plan and they would customize anything for him). The food is excellent.

T-Rex at Downtown Disney would be a fun meal! They have lots of different menu items too! They aren't on DDP though.

We are staying at POP Century.
The bus will take you there.

I recommend T-Rex as well, it's not kiddish. Some say it's very loud, I didn't think so. The waiters were attentive, the food really good and the portions, huge. I think you all would enjoy it. The 4 of us had ribs, French Onion Soup, The Dip w/ fresh tortilla chips, and the best pot pie I've ever had (which could have fed 3). Of course this left no room for the flaming, bubbling chocolate volcano thing they kept walking by with, so this Feb we're going back and skipping the appetizers to have room for dessert!

We used to do Chef Mickey's too, but last time we went we were kind of disappointed. To be fair, I think it was just where we were seated and our server.

At any rate, this time we are booked to try the Cape May Clambake Buffet at the Beach Club for our first night.

The menu looks like there is something for everyone, my kids love buffets and then we can walk around the boardwalk area after we are done.

Maybe this is an option for you?

Have a great trip!

Try O'Hanas.....its all you can eat. And the food, IMHO, is awesome. And if you son loves desserts...theirs is awesome. Its at the Poly.

We love Kona Cafe. The food was great and the atmosphere was awesome. If you want a quick service option Wolfgang Puck Express has excellent food.

I Second trying :"Ohanas" at the POLY.
Take bus to MK then hop on Monorail to the POLY.
With a Teen and a young Adult they will
get all they can eat--Grilled meats (steak, Turkey and Shrimp)
they also have several sides and a great Desert.
I don't think you can go wrong.

Another vote for 'Ohana:thumbsup2

Whispering Canyon might be a good option too:goodvibes

Trail's End has enough food that even a picky eater ought to be able to find something.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I am going to go look at the menu for Ohana's right now.

Boma's is great too at the AK Lodge. The food was excellent and all 3 of my kids loved it. We are headed back there in Feb.

Boma is great!! But you might want to try something in a park such as Mama Melrose, or any of the countries.

I think you should first check with the family and see if they mind if you change the "first day tradition". If so, I'd give CM another try. If they are good with going elsewhere for a first dinner, Ohana is fun, but I am not familiar with what they have on the kids menus to satisfy your picky eater. Boma is also nice and definately has chicken strips and mac n cheese.

We liked the Cape May clambake at BC, The resort is pretty and we enjoyed walking along the boardwalk. Maybe one of the TS restaurants on the Boardwalk would be fun. My DSIL enjoyed the entertainment there in the evening.

'Ohana is fun and Kona is good. You can watch the fireworks from the beach after dinner or take the boat and "tour" the lake, hop on the monorail and resort hop a bit or take the one that goes to Epcot for a little preview. We like to hitch a ride and just get in the Disney mood.
