So I am a sophomore (16 years old) and today I was looking at classes I would take next year because I will soon be having to pick them and sign up for them. This led me to thinking about my future job because I was picking classes that would set me up for my future career. This also led to a family discussion about me wanting to get a first job to set me up and get experience for my career. When I grow up I am becoming a pharmacist so I was looking to work at osco. My parents do not require me to get a job while I am in high school except if I want one for the summer. I think this is wonderful and very generous but I would love to start working at osco this summer and maybe 1 or 2 or 3 days (or preferably weekend days) during the school year. [[Then as time goes on I would be working there waiting for an opening in the pharmacy there at jewel-osco]]. My parents are okay with the summer part but were unsure about the days/weekends during the school year because I am already loaded with homework this year and I will be taking AP classes next year. They were saying not that I CAN'T do it but didn't seem to like the idea because they want me to keep my grades up.
I know it would be hard, but I don't expect it to be easy. It would be really hard but I know it's possible. I know it would be a lot of work and I'm not looking to be super stressed and all, I just want to be as ready as I can for my career.
I don't know., so now I am just worked up and don't know what to do. I guess I would just have to wait until this summer., apply if there is an opening., see if I even like it there., and then ask if I could even work only 1 or 2 days during the school year?
Any input or ideas.?:confused3

I think your idea of working in the summer and then maybe 1 or 2 days is a good one. Especially since you're not being required to work at this age, you'd still be able to get experience working and be able to stop if school starts to pile up.

Just a question, does that store allow under-age people to work in the pharmacy? All the stores I've seen you have to be 18+ and I think you also have to have training.

Thank you. I think that's what I am going to end up trying to do. And that's also what I was thinking.
About the pharmacy., I'm not exactly sure. It's something I would have to look into., But I would just have a stronger chance at getting the available job in the pharmacy if I was already working at osco. You would need training and a class to work in the pharmacy but I think its through the store and they provide it and all.
