First hand experience in sharing w people not on plan?

I've read reports that say you can now use credits for people who are not on your dining plan. Is there anywhere in the official literature that states this? Has anyone actually done this successfully?

We booked a trip with free dining and upgraded to deluxe. Now my DH is not able to come all of the days. I'm contemplating removing him from the reservation and buying him a seperate ticket, since there's no way we could use his additional credits on top of the ones we have. I just want to make sure we can do it this way.

Technically, he has to be listed on the room for the nights that he stays, and with that being the case, everyone in the room has to be on the dp for the same number of nights.

I think that I read somewhere that you were allowed to do this. Last summer we shared our dinning plan with my Mother who had a separate room. We used table service credits for her at Ohana, Tusker house and Boma and we shared meals at other quick service and table service locations. Nobody ever asked us if we were all on the dinning plan they come with the bill and my husband taps his band.
The first location that we shared at (Marakesh) I did ask if sharing was allowed and the server was very friendly and brought extra plates - it seemed like a pretty common request.

Remove him from the reservation and upon checkin, add him for the number if nights that he will be with you. He must be on the room in order to stay in a Disney resort. I do not know who you handle DME if you are using it.

He can share with you. I would not put him on the reservation because he would have to have the same package. Just keep in mind he wont have a band for room access and charging. We treated friends several times back in November when we are on deluxe. I think we did it at Sanaa, Artist Point, and the Boathouse. No one questioned anything.

Just keep in mind that if Disney catches him staying there and not being on the reservation (and I really don't know how they would, but I guess it's possible), they can kick you out of the resort. It is a violation of the fire code, and they take it very seriously.

The Mousekeepers are pretty good at knowing who is in a room. It makes no sense to avoid registering hi upon checkin.

My son used to join us but only for a few days. We never had any problems adding him and his wife to our registration and then we were able to have him issued a parking permit. The $50 per day we paid was well worth the peace of mind.

We are WELL within our room occupancy so not sure where all these issues about fire codes and mouse keeping knowing how many people are in the room and such are coming from.

If we encounter any issues we will just pay for him oop. It makes no sense to leave 8 days of tickets and 24 dining credits on the table

The "fire code" and "mouse keeping knowing how many people are in the room" came in direct response to a pp suggesting not putting him on the reservation at all.

As for sharing dining credits, Disney could care less who you have at the table eating with you, as long as at least one person at the table has the dining credits to cover the meal. One person could make a reservation for a week, take 6 of his/her friends out for dinner the first night, and Disney would be fine with that. It's always been that way, as far as I know.

I guess the question is, can you have somebody registered to your room without them being part of the dinning plan as well. If that's an issue maybe switch your plan back to just the regular dinning plan and use his unused credits.

My apologies if I offended anyone. We are local and extra people end up crashing in our room last minute all the time when we stay over. But, we never go over the max amount allowed in a room and we've never had a problem. I guess I would call and see if they can add him without the plan, but in my experience the answer is no.

We've added my mom to our room reservation many times at check in and never had a problem (she lives in Florida). Maybe we've just gotten lucky but that's what I was planning on doing. They've issued a parking pass etc without even batting an eye. You can't add the dining plan at check in so they've never said anything about the extra person not having it or needing it.
