First DVC stay - Boulder Ridge Villas (And 2nd BRV stay one year later.)

Someone in another thread said I can actually book LLs 7 days before our check-in day even though we aren't going to the park until the next day. Not sure if that's true but I'll be getting up at 6am tomorrow to try! I'm only going to attempt to book Slinky Dog Dash for myself. And then Mine Train for my husband and maybe me as well. We shall see!
Yea true, I didn’t think it was a big deal to get up early, but by the time I started booking some stuff was already at 3pm. I believe Slinky Dog is one of those.

I would definitely book all 3 rides, and then as soon as check into your first one book something else, keep 3 things booked at all times.!! (you don’t have to ride them, but having the option is key)

Also as soon as you check into your first one and you go to book something else it can be at any park (if you have hopper tix), so if you plan to take a break or a nap then go to a different park start booking them!!

And, just an FYI you can keep modifying them to fit your schedule, so if at 9am you check into Slinky and you plan on Epcot later, book Ratatouille (or whatever) and you can keep checking back for different times, but at some point they will be sold out no options will show.

I found LLMP to be SUPER helpful and very valuable to never waiting more than 15-20min all day and night every day that I purchased/used it.

Well.....I got up at 6am today to book some LLs. I did get a Mine Train return for my husband on our first park day and one for me later in the trip.

I decided not to do Slinky Dog. We are only going to be in HS Monday night and Tuesday morning. On Monday, the LLMP was $32. Since I was literally only going to use it for Slinky Dog...I decided it wasn't worth it. On Tuesday, it was cheaper but the only times were after our lunch reservation at 50s Prime Time and I don't think my stomach can handle a rollercoaster right after a big lunch.

But the beauty of having DVC is knowing I'll have many chances in the future to go on Slinky Dog.

I think what I'll do next time (likely January 2027), is plan a day where all 3 of us but LLMP. Then I'll plan out several rides to make it worth the money. I could have done that this time but just didn't feel up to that.

Our son qualified for DAS so we'll use that for all the rides he likes in the park - Star Tours, Alien Swirling Saucers, MMRR, Toy Story. Rise is hit or miss with him so we'll see. If he doesn't want to go on it, we'll skip it. But really that's it for us in HS, which is why we don't spend a ton of time there. Especially since Henry's favorite - Star Tours and MMRR are ones we go on a lot at Disneyland anyway.

So yeah....we just have LL for myself and my husband to ride Mine Train. I asked my husband if he wanted to do Tron or Guardians again but he said no. He also pointed out that he likes having DVC because it's not a big deal to skip some rides, knowing he can always hit them up next time.

And honestly, a lot of our favorites are ones we like to do with our son anyway.

One week from right now, we'll be in the sky!

We got our son a haircut this morning. We had to go to a new person and she did not do a good job. Kind of a bummer but at least he wears a hat during most of the trip. 🤣

Slight hiccup. Yesterday, I tried to place my Walmart delivery order, just like I did last January. It immediately cancelled it. I contacted their help chat and it said it was an automatic security thing. She told me to wait 4 hours and do it again. Well, I did....cancelled. So I called. The guy said it was cancelled because I slightly changed the order. Said to try again in an hour and it should work. Nope. Cancelled a 3rd time. Called again. The guy this time said wait 4 hours and it should work. Well, I went to bed. Got up today and tried again...nope. Cancelled a 4th time! I tried to put in an order that was under $100, thinking maybe it won't get flagged. Nope. Cancellation #5. So I'm giving up on Walmart. Trying to figure out if I should do Instacart or what. I've never used it before.

So frustrated!

I got checked into our flights this morning. Our boarding group on SWA was B40ish. Normally, we ask for pre-boarding due to our son's autism. But some of their staff give us the run-around about it and it's honestly kind of stressful. So this time...we decided to just suck it up and pay for upgraded boarding. $39 each (one way.) So $117 to alleviate some of the travel day stress. We are now boarding A8, A9, and A10 which should hopefully secure us 3 seats together. I think that means only 7 people plus the pre-board/disability folks are ahead of us. Fingers crossed!

Now I just need to figure out the grocery issue. Then finish up my packing and cleaning. Around 5pm, I'll be taking our dog to the sitter. We need to get to bed super early since we plan to wake up at 5am. But I have a feeling our son won't be able to fall asleep that early. On a normal night, we're lucky if he falls asleep by 10:30. (Which means, I also don't go to bed until then.) Wish us luck!

I've had nothing but great experiences with Instacart when I've ordered from them! Definitely a good option.

Pardon my language but **** \v/almart!!
Definitely use Instacart or even DoorDash.

We've only been home a couple hours and I'm so drained. Also seem to have caught a respiratory virus...thanks, WDW!

But I wanted to share my thoughts on our first 1-bedroom villa stay while it's all fresh in my head...

We were in room 1533.

It was nice to have the extra space...but we really didn't use all the space much. My husband and son shared the king sized bed. But other than sleeping, we didn't go in that room at all really. We pretty much just hung out in the living area when we were in the hotel. We didn't use much of the kitchen either. Just used the fridge for water and milk. And bowls for cereal. Having an actual table to sit at was nice though! We had breakfast in the room every day. (Picked up a mobile orders plus had cereal.) I also was happy to have a washer/dryer and did a few loads of laundry throughout the week.

Our room was super quiet. I was worried since we were the first room in the hallway but I never really heard people outside our door at all.

I remember seeing a video of the 1 bedroom at BRV and the toilet was in it's own separate room. But in ours, there wasn't a door so someone couldn't use the toilet while someone else was in the shower. That was kind of annoying in the morning but not a huge deal. I wish there was a 2nd toilet though.

The lighting in the bathroom mirror area near the tub was super dark so if I'm being nit-picky...that was a bit annoying.

One day we ran the dishwasher but the soap dispenser didn't open so nothing got washed. Again, not a big deal at all. Everything else in the room seemed to work fine. Our son loved the big bath tub.

Oh, one thing I didn't like is that the thermostat must have one of those sensors or something. In the middle of the night, I woke up and the room was quite cold. Once I got up to check on it, the heat kicked on. This would have been super bothersome if the room had been to too hot. Thankfully, a slightly chilly room isn't a big issue for us.

I slept on the murphy bed. In our studio last year, I didn't care for the queen sized regular bed so I switched to the murphy and found the mattress to be more to my liking. But this time...the murphy was just...okay. The sides where people sleep are starting to keep pretty soft/saggy. So I slept basically in the center of the bed and that helped.

All of the staff we encountered were great.

Our mobile orders at Roaring Fork were usually done pretty quickly. One morning, they didn't have any coffee for refillable mugs so that was frustrating. They wanted us to wait and they'd give us some other type of coffee behind the counter but the line was long and it was taking forever to make the drinks. So we just abandoned it and made coffee in our room. It was only 'meh'....but the coffee at Roaring Fork is pretty "meh" anyway as well.

We used the pool for about an hour one afternoon. First time using a pool here. Our son loved it. I sat in the hot tub but only briefly because there were a lot of people and it just felt weird sitting there with them. Plus, half of them were little kids.

Buses to and from the parks were mostly okay. A few long waits here and there but we survived it. Waits for the boat were short....except for one day. We ended up waiting around 30 minutes. And then the ride/docking seemed to take forever too. From our door to the MK...it ended up taking about 1 hour which was crazy compared to all of the other times we used the boat.

Overall, we enjoyed the 1 bedroom. I am concerned about how saggy the murphy mattress might be by the time we go back in early 2027. I wonder how often they replace these. We've considered doing the math to see if we could afford a 2-bedroom. Then we'd have more real mattresses and 2 toilets. But that seemed really excessive for 3 people.

As usual, we did love the resort a lot. It's so pretty and peaceful. Next time we plan to do less park days and more relaxing at the resort days.

Full, detailed report with pics, coming soon.

Never stayed at BRV, but can vouch for 1BR. We have stayed 1BR at BWV, OKW, BLT and in 20 days VDH. We will never go back to a studio. The extra room, washer and dryer, full kitchen just makes it seem more like home and less of a Hotel Stay. The washer and dryer means we can pack lighter and have more room for theme park apparel! Just can't beat eating in the room for the savings and I really don't miss the crowds at the eateries. For us a 1 or even 2BR really brings out the meaning of "Welcome Home"

Agreed! We are totally one bedroom people too. In fact we are looking at a 2 bedroom for July 2026 vs renting out some of our extra points. On a VGC stay a few years ago we booked a 2 bedroom and then my sister and her family had to back out a few months out. We just kept it and not having anyone sleeping in the living room was pretty great. I have a teen boy and girl and they vastly prefer to not share a bed. They will… but even with a one bedroom, we will first choose the ones that sleep 5 for the extra bed.

VGC is pretty points heavy and we often go for quick trips of 2-3 nights. So we do often still get studios there and my kids suck it up on the sofa bed- lol! Hard life they have!

Thankfully, we should have enough BRV points to always stay in at least a 1-bedroom. But still have to do studios at VGC for most of our Disneyland trips. Kind of a bummer but hoping to add more points eventually.

At least VGC will be getting murphy beds soon! We'll be in a studio there in December. I'm hoping they don't get rid of the little table.

@tx911 I know our trips overlapped a bit. Which days were you in the parks? I wonder if we overlapped at all.

I'll be writing about each day and adding some pictures. So you'll have to look for yourself in the background if there's overlap! (I once found myself in the background of someone's Disneyland pictures. Ha!)

Here's our day to day breakdown for this trip....

Sunday, January 26th
AM - Magic Kingdom
PM - Epcot

Monday, January 27th
AM - Epcot
PM - Hollywood Studios

Tuesday, January 28th
AM - Hollywood Studios
PM - Magic Kingdom

Wednesday, January 29th
AM - relaxed at hotel
PM - Animal Kingdom

Thursday, January 30th
AM - Magic Kingdom
PM - Epcot

Friday, January 31st
AM - Epcot
PM - Magic Kingdom

(So, TX, any overlaps with when you were there??)

We ended up getting a super late start every single day. I'm sure rope droppers would clutch their pearls to see the times we ended up getting there each day. 🤣 But it's what works for us. And we still managed to do pretty much everything we wanted.

Not really, but I was on the lookout for you :)
We were at MK on 1/31, but only during the day. And at Epcot 2/1.
It was a very relaxing trip for us. No rope dropping or late nights.
We ate at Cake Bake Shop on 2/1 for breakfast and liked it a lot. Best drip coffee I had on the trip.

Disney coffee is pretty awful, in general. I'm not a coffee snob by any means but I still think it's bad. I've never heard of Cake Bake Shop so I'll have to google that.

I don't know what you look like so I couldn't look out for you. There was a couple in line by us on Peter Pan that sounded like they were from Texas and it made me wonder if it could be you.....but I think it was on the 30th so I guess not. We didn't get to MK until around 6pm on the 31st. And we flew home on the 1st.

Cake Bake Shop is the new place on the Boardwalk where ESPN used to be.

I’m looking forward to trying out BRV in April. My wife and I are staying here for the Spring Surprise 10k.

We did Instacart on NYE this year and it was great. They even added a box of Ronzo rigatoni that I’m hoping the house keeping took home.

Trying to ignore everything going on in the world right now. So here's day one......just boring travel day.

Day 1 - Saturday, January 25th

Woke up at 5:15 which is much earlier than we're used to! We left the house just after 7am. We paid extra for closing parking again and our car was literally right by the door to the walkway. So great. We arrived at the airport at 7:40. Went downstairs to check our bags. Then back up through TSA pre-check. We were at our gate at 8:00. So we had about an hour to kill before boarding. I got some grapes to snack on and we just hung out. Our son did okay with the wait, thankfully. Started to get pretty antsy towards the end.

On previous trips, we requested to pre-board due to his autism and struggling with lines. But several times, the gate agents would give us a hard time about all three of us wanting to board. So we just didn't want to deal with the stress and headache of that. Which means....we purchased the upgraded boarding through Southwest. It cost us around $120 on the way there and I think around $130 or $140 on the way back. Was it worth it? I don't know. I mean, it was definitely helpful because we essentially board right after pre-check. Were were boarding positions A7,8, and 9. But it was so expensive! However, we feel it's important to not wait in a crowded line where he might have a meltdown before we ever leave. Plus it gets us in seats closer to the front which gets him out of the plane quicker. He struggles with waiting to exit the plane.

I'm nervous about flying in December because we'll have a layover each way. And I just don't know if I want to pay for an upgrade for each leg. So I don't know what we're going to do. But I guess that's a problem for future Me to figure out.

Once we were in the air, our son did pretty well. Started to get antsy about 2 hours into the 3 hour flight. He kept repeating "almost there" over and over. We landed at 1:05, local time. We went down to get our bags and they had 4 or 5 flights all using the same baggage claim area so it was a crowded mess of people. Pretty stressful. Once getting our bags, we went back upstairs and grabbed lunch at McDonald's. I basically had to stalk tables that looked like they were done so I could quickly get a place to sit.

Travel day really is the worst. We went back down to level 2 and ordered an Uber XL. This was a first for us. In the past, we have just done Mears and Magical Express. This was MUCH quicker. We waiting maybe 10 minutes for him to arrive. And were at the hotel 30 minutes later. It was 3:00. We hadn't gotten a text about our room so I just went to ask if they had any idea when it would be ready.

They did not. I told them we were hoping for a lower floor so we can get a murphy bed. So when she inquired with the room assignment people, she said we were on the first floor. My husband was hoping to be off the ground level so maybe next time I'll simple request "floor 2 or 3." Our son started to get a bit upset at this point, which I kind of expected. We've never arrived at a hotel without our room being ready so this was new for him. And new is often "bad" for him.

So we dropped our bags with bell service and decided to head over to the monorail. First, we went to the boat dock to get over to the Magic Kingdom area. After a fairly short wait, we saw the boat coming. As it got closer to the dock....we notice there was at man at the rear of the boat, projectile vomiting. And he was making loud, dinosaur-like sounds while throwing up. It was really gross and everyone was just trying not to watch. As he walked by, I said "you doing okay?" His skin was so pale. He was just like, "I'm so sorry you all had to see that." Needless to say, we chose to sit at the very front of the boat. 🤣

Around 4:00, we got on the resort loop for the monorail. We did the full loop. We were back on the boat towards Wilderness Lodge around 4:45. And right before we arrived, we got a text that our room was ready. Woohoo! We got our bags and groceries (we ended up using Instacart. More expensive than Walmart but no issues otherwise.) We just asked to use the cart and take stuff ourselves rather than wait. We were basically in our room by 5:00ish. We did some unpacking and then placed a mobile dinner order at Roaring Fork. Brought it back up and ate it in our room.

After dinner, we went back down to buy refillable mugs. Then we went to the gift shop to get milk for my cereal I planned to eat each morning. They didn't actually have any in the gift shop fridges. I had to ask for it and a cast member went off to get it for me. Not sure why. But that's okay. Then it was back up to the room for showers, relaxation time, and then bedtime.

It was a really long day but our son held up pretty well. Only a few little rough moments but nothing awful, by any means.

I plan to block out my husband and son's faces in pictures since I'm not sure if they'd want to be posted here. (Though I have posted them in the past.) But here are a couple from our travel day. Didn't bother covering them in these since they are wearing masks that cover half their faces anyway.

On the plane....
20250125_095050.jpg

When he started to get antsy, we gave him a tablet and he mostly just listened to music and then watched the Southwest flight tracker. (Yes, he's listening to Steely Dan. 😁)

20250125_105233.jpg

He really likes the tram at the airport.

20250125_132050.jpg

This was his first time on the monorail! He liked it. But after making a few stops without getting off....he was kind of over it. But I really enjoyed it. We haven't ridden it since 2008 or maybe 2010.

20250125_160719.jpg

Just realized that today marks exactly 10 years since our son's very first time flying! February 3rd, 2015. Seems like a lifetime ago.

(Not blocking out faces since they both look a lot different now anyway. 🤣 )

472375537_10164831818878502_2538582985448883279_n.jpg

(Yes, he's playing with one of those large pill organizers. It had cheerios in it. 🤣)

These were taken on our flights to California for his first Disneyland visit. On the first leg of the flight...he threw up all over! Ick! Thankfully, it was a fluke and he hasn't thrown up on a flight since. Phew! (Thankfully I brought extra clothes for him. Still bring extras to this day...for him...AND for me. Better safe than sorry!)

Day 2 - Sunday, January 26th

We got up and ended up having breakfast in the room around 9am. We were on the boat to the Magic Kingdom around 10:20. In the park by 10:40.

001.jpg

We saw that the Haunted Mansion had a 20 minute wait so we jumped in line. It went pretty quickly. Next up was Peter Pan using a DAS return. Then Small World with a 15 minute standby. Then we used a DAS return for Magic Carpets. Last time, this was one of our son's favorites but this time, he didn't want to go on it on any other day. Strange.

Then we went to Columbia Harbor House for a mobile order. We sat upstairs. It was so dimly lit and hot where we were but otherwise, it was good. Our son really likes salmon so we ended up going here several times.

Once we were done, my husband's return time for Mine Train was up so he went and rode that. It was his first time on it and he really liked it! He practically walked right one because the LL was pretty much empty.

After that, we rode Winnie the Pooh with a DAS return. Our son laughed and loved this one again. Then we rode the People Mover with a very short wait. Next, we used a DAS return for Tomorrowland Speedway. The people in front of us had several kids who were too short to ride alone and only 2 parents. So my husband offered to ride with one of their kids since our son wanted to ride with me.

It was around 3:30 so we decided to head back to the hotel for a break.

The day before, I realized I'd forgotten my small wallet that fits nicely in my fanny pack. And we also forgot a charger for son's tablet. So we had placed a next-day Amazon order. When we got back from break, we stopped by bell service for it and they said it was left in our room for us. Nice! It was sitting on the table when we got back in the room. We relaxed for a while and our son played with his toys.

Then at 5:20, we took the bus to Epcot. Spaceship Earth had a 10 minute wait so we got on that quickly. One of our favorites! Then Figment was a walk-on. Such a cheesy ride but I love it. After that, we had dinner at Connections.

We then headed towards Ratatouille for our DAS return. We got our glasses and rounded the corner. Then....we stood for a long time. And the ride closed. The announcement said we could wait in line but there was no info one if/when ride would re-open. We waited a while and no one moved. Our son started to get upset so we needed to leave. We exited out backwards. I asked the cast member how we get our DAS return back if it reopens and she couldn't get anything to scan. She took my first name and said we could come back. But we never did.

Instead, we used a DAS we had picked up for Frozen while we were waiting. Our son seemed kind of annoyed but we figured it was because we had to leave the Ratatouille line. Then...as we were next to board the boat, he panicked and wanted to run off! Not good. My husband grabbed him. At this moment, we realized he apparently didn't want to ride Frozen. He rode this several times on our last trip and seemed to like is (minus the drops, which he didn't like.)

Well, apparently, now he was too afraid. We've never forced him on a ride but it was time to board so we just placed him in the boat. Not our best parenting moment. But he did okay. He was laughing afterward. But didn't want to go on it anymore this trip. Maybe when we go back in 2027, he'll want to. But I doubt it. He also didn't want to ride Pirates or Rise this trip either. Total bummer.

After this, we went into some shops and bought some pins. Then headed for the bus stop right as park was closing. We waited about 20 minutes. Back at the hotel around 9:45. Our son took a bath in the big tub and enjoyed that. At home, we also have a big tub but it's jetted and he doesn't use that. So he was pretty happy. We ended up staying up kind of late (got hot chocolate in our refillable mugs) and got to bed around midnight.

Overall, it was a nice first day. Felt pretty crowded but wait times weren't crazy. I think this is the day we actually did the most amount of rides.
