First come first serve -- ressie or checkin?

When they say that room requests are satisfied first-come, first-serve, do they mean first to make the reservation or first to check-in that day.

We just had to make a new reservation for May because we wanted to switch from a 1BR to a 2BR. I'm surprised we were able to make a ressie (at BCV) only 6 months out. I guess this must be because it is a slow time of year and also because they are not yet sold out. Anyway, I'm nervous that, despite the fact that we will be checking in very early in the morning, that my room requests will be satisfied last because we booked 6 months out.

So, I'd be interested in knowing how people have fared when they book the ressie late but check-in in the AM. How has this worked out and do your odds improve if you check in early?

When you read this in your membership documents, it means that requests are ordered based on when the reservation is made.

However, there have been some reports on the board that at least a few of the resorts have been experimenting with requests being satisfied based on check-in. As I recall, queries sent to member services about this stated that requests were still honored based on when the ressie was made - but the evidence presented in the reports suggests that these resorts were in fact trying out the check-in method, and MS wasn't informed.

I've been away from the boards for a bit, so I'm not sure what the current status is.

We usually ask for only non-smoking, so we don't get too worried about what location or view we get; however, I don't like the idea of satisfying requests at check-in time - especially for people that plan well in advance to try and get exactly what they want (or at least mostely).
