First Adults Only Trip

DH & I are taking our first adults only trip to WDW in Nov. It should be a great long-weekend getaway.

We should be there during Epcot F&WF. We were planning on not visiting the parks and just enjoying the resorts but I think we may have changed our minds. We are going back in 2012 for 3 weeks with the kids so we thought we'd buy annual passes this trip. We're also getting the dining plan this trip.

Any tips, tricks, hints to enjoying the parks and resorts without the kids? What are some must-do things on an adult only trip? I think we will have 3 sit-down meals. Where should we go for a romantic dinner/lunch?

If we decide not to get the annual passes this trip, can we really enjoy the resorts knowing the parks are so close?

Also thinking about the Tables in Wonderland card (if we don't do the dining plan). Is it worth it? I know it can be used on alcohol also (poolside bar )
Can we use that with our DVC discount? What if we get the dining plan? Can we still use the TIW card for our beverages and appetisers? I believe the card is good for a year, so we will be able to use it next year with the kids...

Don't know if you can tell, but I'm really excited to go on this trip with DH. My mind is spinning with ideas of what to do. I can;t wait!!!!! Any advice or help anyone can give will be really appreciated!

1. I love Sanaa and Jiko. Sanaa is better for atmosphere. Its at Kidani Village at AKL. Of course the French have a better lock on romance, so personally for a truly romantic atmosphere I prefer Bistro de Paris. It is over the top and the food is awesome.

2. The AP will truly pay for itself in 2 - 4 day weekend trips. Just do it if you can. With a 3 week vaca planned, you will be SOOOOOO HAPPY not to have to deal with park tix. And surprised about how much you will save in the long run.

3. Tables in Wonderland is a great deal. It literally will pay for itself in no time. I don't do the dining plan because I don't always eat an appetizer and NEVER eat dessert. TIW usually pays for itself within my first vacation. However, now that I live here it pays for itself much faster.

You will have a wonderful time. Last trip I went on was with my DH who had never been and my adult DS. We had a ball.

We just got back from an Adults only trip-3 couples celebrating our friends 30th wedding anniversary.
Things to do:
1) La Nouba!!! I set up the show for our friends & they were truly blown away....Call & ask if they are offering any DVC or AP discounts (that may be another reason to get an AP)
2) Def get the DVC discounted AP & then get the TIW--we did-it was really nice being able to use it jsut for cocktails--be warned though, they do add 18% gratuity on all bill-even bar only-not a problem for us, but wnated to make sure you knew...
We were even able to use the AP or DVC(cant' remember which one at TREX, so if you go there with teh kids at your next trip--ask about the discount)
3) depending on where you are staying, a nice romantic thing to do is take the boat ride to or from DTD to SSR, OKW or POR. Even if youa renot staying at any of them, you can go to any of their bars, have a drink & then ride it back to DTD, it's jsut a nice slow time on the water. We relaly enjoy it...
4) We like to explore EPCOT when its jsut the two of us, b/c if you are with kids they seem to want to go on "rides" or other more "exciting things". We love going to Interventions & doing some of the things that we wouldn't necessarily do with kids & then of course hit the coutnries & really explore them-(i.e. actually go into the structure in Norway & read about the itemsstatues displyed-things like that) Also sit outside at Rose & Crown having asnack or drink & watching the "world go by" on the water...!
5) I see AKV is your home resort, so you must love animals--go to AK & go on the Maharajah Jungle Trek &/or the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail --slowly, enjoying the sights that you may have missed.

I'm not sure if you're a late night person or not, but I like doing PM EMH and then sleeping in the next morning. I know that I've seen a lot of people against EMH on here, but I've never had a problem with them. I've been at MK until 3am and the park was empty - walked on to everything. Sleeping in is always a good thing, right? I'm hoping to do a lot of late nights and late mornings on my next trip!

My mom and I took a mother/daughter trip back in September and it was all about the dining. We ate at almost ALL TS restaurants on the Deluxe Dining Plan. My recommendations for romantic dining spots or places with great atmospere would be:

1. Jiko (AKL) - On the dining plan this would be 2 credits but we got a 6pm reservation and were seated next to a window next to a beautiful little pond/stream. It was quiet, relaxing, and beautiful. Server and food was phenominal.

2. Rose and Crown Pub (EPCOT) - We ate here for lunch and it was an early lunch (11:30). We ate inside and it was beautiful. Food was incredible and although I do not drink alcohol my mom had one of their specialty drinks and enjoyed it quite a bit. It was very quiet and the server was very pleasant. I've heard that a dinner reservation on the outside terrace to view Illuminations can be spectacular but was not able to get a reservation for that time period. But it was a spectacular lunch.

3. Coral Reef (EPCOT) - The atmosphere here was stunning and the food was probably some of the best we had all trip. And the dessert was definitely my favorite (cheesecake napolean...very light). We had a quiet booth at the back of the restaurant and it was great. I know some people like to sit right next to the aquarium...but we enjoyed the low lighting and relaxing feel of being in the back (also meant we were not near any small children). I never even knew this place existed before making reservations and I was VERY happy. Food was beautifully seasoned. Server was only so so...but nothing bad per say.

4. Artists Point (WL) - Didn't eat here this past trip but in 2008 when my parents renewed their wedding vows at Disney. Amazing food, wonderful server, and lovely atmosphere. Also enjoyed looking around the resort prior to our reservation...very romantic. I think this one is also 2 points on the dining plan if that's the route you end up going.

5. Yachtmens Steakhouse - Ate here right after the vow renewal in 2008. Food was amazing, server was excellent...but seating seemed a bit crowded for my tastes so not as relaxing an atmosphere for me. But excellent food for sure. Another 2 credit dining experience on the dining plan.

Sorry I don't have any information about TIW or DVC discounts. But those are some restaurants where I have experienced a relaxing and "romantic" atmosphere.

If you're looking for some "fun" experiences I recommend Sci-Fi Dine in Theater (DHS) and Cinderella's Royal Table (MK). The food at both of these is okay, but nothing on par with the first bunch I mentioned...but we always go to Sci-Fi because it's fun and although I will probably never do Cinderella's Royal Table again...mom and I had an amazing time and it was a blast. But with all the kids and the characters not relaxing or romantic if that's what you're looking for.

DW and I went without children the week after Thanksgiving 2010 and it was fantastic!! (TR link below) We used TIW for all our TS meals and it more than paid for itself in this one trip. We rode few rides, did a lot of resort hopping and just took our time noticing plenty of little things you don't stop to see when going "commando". We also did the Backstage Magic Tour. Because there were no kids, we splurged (for us) on meals. We ate at V&A, Bistro de Paris, Jiko's, Flying Fish, Tutto Italia and Crystal Palace. For atmosphere and romance, you cannot beat V&A and Bistro and they both take TIW but are not on the DDP. Make reservations at Bistro about 8:30 on a night they do Illuminations fireworks and request a table by the window facing the lake. You will get a great view of the fireworks in a very romantic setting with fantastic food and service!

Just an FYI concerning F&W, Friday nights and all day on Saturday, Epcot is very crowded. WS was crazy crowded the first Saturday in Nov last year. Sunday will be less crowded, but weekdays are best for enjoying the food booths.

TIW break even for you is a spend of $375, and it is good for 13 months. You can use TIW for alcohol when on dining plan, not sure about appetizers.

For TS I would suggest Citricos if on DDP. If not, Il Mulino at the Swan and Bluezoo at the Dolphin, are my favorites. Both take TIW.

I just did an eight day, all resorts, no parks trip my last time - the week after Thanksgiving.

It was the best trip I ever had; I didn't miss the parks in the least. I took a bunch of books, spent a lot of time by the pool and did a different resort each afternoon and ended the evening there for dinner. There was so much about the resorts that I had overlooked when focusing on the parks.

We went last year just the two of us and splurged on Hoop Dee do and La Nouba. Both were well worth the price!

I highly recommend the Yachtmens Steakhouse. A nice walk along the beach.

Stop in at Jellyrolls on the boardwalk. You can find lots of information on Dis board.

We really enjoyed walking through countries at EPCOT and sampling the wines. They have reasonable prices on Wine Flights. Three or four different wines from the country. The girl at Italy gave us a lot of infomation about the wine and what meal it is commenly eaten with.
