Fireworks: OOOH! AAAH! NOOO WAY?

My DH is an Iraq war vet and when we were first dating, he did not do well with fireworks. We saw some up in Providence RI at the time and he couldn't sleep for a couple of days afterwards. Of course it didn't help that his idiot sister asked him if the sound reminded him of being over in Iraq. Ugh!!

He does better with fireworks now, 8 years later, but we don't go out of our way to see them.
Please thank him for his service!

I'm an OEF vet and me and fireworks get along about as much as a cat and a bath, but seeing as I've never been to Disney, I'm going to do my best to watch the fireworks when I go in April.

They use to trigger my PTSD really bad, but so did large crowds. I've managed to get over my fear of large crowds in the last ten years, so maybe I can manage fireworks. Never know until we try. I just don't think a first time Disney experience would be complete without at least attempting to view the fireworks.

You can watch the fireworks at Polynesian and they may be quieter. I've seen them from the Wilderness Lodge beach and the booms would echo across the lake a second after you saw the firework. The noise was much less than it is if you're in the park.

Another tip is to be near an "inside" ride when the fireworks start. Then if you feel panicked you can just go in the ride to get away. Pirates of the Caribean, Haunted Mansion, and Ariel's Under the Sea Adventure are all good options. My family usually rode Ariel's ride during the fireworks when my kids were preschoolers and we were concerned about the loud noises. You can hear them, but they are quite muffled over the sounds of the ride.
