Finger Scanning-what a joke

The finger scan didn't make sense for me. We had old park hoppers. Went in once, no scanning, no problem.

The next day, we had to use the scanner. Told the guy we've never had our fingers scanned into the machine before.

He said just put your fingers in so I can put the tickets through. So I put my fingers in (which technically should not be in the system) for ALL 4 of the tickets.

Doesn't make sense.

I'm an AP holder and many times the finger scanning hasn't worked for me. When that happened, I had to show ID.

just out of curiosity...do they still have the shopping pass? I remeber readinf a fe years ago that they had a shopping pass. It was a free pass for like an hr to just shop. If you did not leave before the pass was up you had to pay for the day ticket, not that I will be using this, but does anyone know if they still have it? That would have been an option for the OP.

What type of ID do you need?

Photo ID - such as license or passport.
Just FYI for those who choose for whatever reason not to use the biometrics a photo ID - such as that you would use for air travel - will subsitute. A friend was unable due to arthritus to use the scanner and just used ID. Simple quick and not embarrasing to her at all.

You just took ownership of all 4 of those tickets and other family members could have difficulty. Actually Guest Relations will probably undo the finger scan on 3 of the passes if you explain to them what you explained here.

Starting sometime in June 2005 finger scans were added to old park hoppers starting with next usage. If the finger scanners were deactivated that day the finger scan is added at yet the next time of usage.

No they no longer have it.
Are you sure? I did this a few years ago, although it wasn't a pass per se. Basically what happened was I explained what I wanted to do and the CM said that I could purchase a regular ticket. As long I made it back out within a certain time (I think an hour) they would give me a full refund. It worked like a charm.

What would they check your ID against for an old park hopper? There is no place on the ticket for a signature, name, notta ! So if you switched your old park hopper with someone else in your party and the finger scan didn't go through, how do they know WHO the ticket belongs to? This is confusing to me - I get it for APs which have your name on them and also for MYW, which require your signature on them, but don't get how they're enforcing this for old park hoppers :confused3

They are having everyone sign their tickets now. Even if there is no printed space to do so. So they can ask for ID that matches the name on the ticket. Then once it is scanned only that person can use the ticket.

O.K. heres the story, a family member who did not have a ticket for MK wanted to take my daughter shopping there-something she saw in a shop on main st. that we did not see at DTD. She had a hopper and I did, so I gave my family member(not even the same sex) my hopper. He scanned his fingers and nothing happened. The machine spit out the hopper and away they went, blissfully on their way. They called me from her cell with a breathy"We're In" just like in some grade B caper movie! He spent 100.00 on the watch and sweatshirt she wanted. We all laughed at the "finger scanning", doesn't do anything but take up time!
Actually the finger scanning does work (very well I might add). However at times they do deactivate the system to control the crowd level. Your idea was very risky as had the system been running they would have asked for ID and most likely taken the pass.

I have been tempted to switch APs with DH just to see what would register, if anything.
If you and your DH's tickets were purchased together you will still be able to get in. The system links all tickets purchased together so that large familes with one ticket holder don't get all mixed up.

Lets say I enter the park today with an old 5 day PHP with say 3 days left. Today I sign the back of the pass on this "first use" under the new policy. Then I use the biometric reader and the ticket is recorded as mine. If I use it next time I am fine. If my sister uses it her scan dosen't match, nor does her signature or ID and she can't use it.

So...... if you have an old pass with more than one day - make sure the person who inherits it uses all the days remaning. Since PHP's were never transferable they are now just trying to enforce that clause.

Nobody's fingers are in the system prior to there first time using the machines. You are put into the system the first time you put your fingers in the machines as you did.

Is it true if you buy a group of tickets together ( like 4- 5day hoppers for the family) and you all scan them the first day togther, and the second day -- by mistake-- your tickets get switched around (with the same family members) that the system recognizes them as a group?? and will let them pass by even if they are not the right biometrics?? just wondering

That is unfortunate as in the future all those tickets will be linked to your biometric finger scan.

The CM should have made all 4 in your party sign the back of his/her ticket and then scan each ticket to each person in your party.

If it were me, I would stop at Guest Relations prior to your next visit if you have days left and make sure to link the tickets to the person they belong to. If it was the last day then no harm no foul unless you were to try and enter another park that day - which evidently didn't occur.

Good Luck

Okay, I was at WDW in December with my DH and MIL. I used an AP and every time, I had to use the fingerscan. My DH and MIL had park hopper passes and not once were they asked to use the fingerscan. I didn't think the crowd level was particularly high even though we were there at park opening time. Has there been a change? Do they now require fingerscans for park hopper passes? My DH and I are returning to WDW in September. The plan was to use up the remaining days on my DH and MIL's passes from December. Please tell me there won't be a problem. :sad2:

They started requiring the old park hopper tickets to use the finger scan in June 2005.

Somehow it inactivated my 11 year old nephews card....3 x...while we were there. Each park gave let us in and gave us a temporary FP to use. And each time we returned to the resort, they gave us a new card.

These finger scanners (whatever they do) are not really 'Crowd friendly." When I went through them it worked, and the CM was actually suprised. He said he rarely seen them actually work.

I really see no purpose for them.

They changed in January of this year. Now all passes require the finger scans.

Yes. As i stated in my above post. All tickets purchased together are linked together.
