We didn't see it in the theaters, so last night I finally bought the DVD. I really wanted to like it, because I've always been really fascinated by the whole Atlantis myth. I'm sad because I really didn't like it very much. I feel a little disloyal. It's the only Disney movie that I really haven't cared for. I can't really put my finger on exactly why I didn't like it. I guess, for one thing, it seemed sort of rushed. Everything happened so fast that there wasn't much time to get to know the characters or understand what was going on. It seemed sort of cold - lacking in the charm, magic, etc. that makes Disney movies so special. I did enjoy the voice work. What did you guys think about it?

It is one of my sons favorite Disney movies... He like the Indiana Jones appeal of it.

He liked it, he's not one of those kids that like singing animals, and cutesy....

He loved the adventurer aspect, breaking code, working with others, discovering a lost city..., greed, power, guns.

It is a different style than most Disney movies. It is a "darker" movie, but different. I enjoyed it as well, because it was different.

Have yet to see it...
I have it on dvd but haven't watched it yet..

I enjoyed it. I'm also an Indy-Jones fan, so I liked the Indy-esque aspect to it. It's not my favorite Disney movie of all time, but I'd enjoy more along those lines *alongside* the standard Disney films. :)

I loved Atlantis...I thought it was a great movie...My son loves it too and I agree with the Indy idea...I think that is why my son loves the movie so much...We have the DVD and whenever we go somewhere, my son always asks to bring that movie to watch in the car!

I know alot of people didn't really care for it though, not the regular Disney kind of movie...

Atlantis was the first "digital" movie that I got to see in a theater. Besides the novelty of the DLP projection system, I liked the movie for all the same reasons as the other posters on this thread. I liked it enough to purchase the DVD when it was released (although the DVD is still sealed). I will be the first to admit that it's nowhere near as good as The Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast, and Lion King. But it was an OK movie.

it was very good, stylistically, but the story was definitely lacking. lots of plot holes. not so much character development. just not a good movie imo.

SSB is with you SPAGo ....

Saw this one at theater also... and LITERALLY started falling asleep... haha! (And it was NOT the beer, at the Beer Theater... as SSB made it through Titanic there 4 times... haha)

For me, seemed like loose plot, not much character development, and generally weak. Remember some others liking this one a lot, but just did not do anything for SSB.

HOWEVER, check out "Spirited Away", that Disney just did limited distribution of..... FANTASTIC film. Largest grossing film ever in Japan (last year)... beautiful animation, wonderful, rich plot...

:) :) :)

ISSBHO

You might want to check out the collector's edition DVD of the movie. The original beginning is shown, which helps explain some of the backstory.

Overall I thought it was a good movie, just not a great movie.

I'm with you. I really disliked it. It reminded me of a Saturday morning cartoon, and I didn't like the exaggerated way the characters were drawn. Like SSB, I had to struggle to keep my eyes open. I think it's the first Disney movie I refused to buy on video or DVD.

I thought it was mediocre. I was really hoping for more, but unfortunately it's evidence of what happens when the brass is able to really fleece a project. :(

But look at it this way, at least it was better than Pocahontas & Hunchback.

I bought the DVD and I really enjoy it. The quality of the animation is so good as is the surround sound. Wow:D

I'm glad to see at least some people liked it. Like several others said, I just thought there were way too many plot holes and not enough character development.

I did think the animation and the voices were cool.

By the way, my husband LOVES the Indiana Jones movies, and he didn't like Atlantis much either.

SSB, where is the beer theater?

This is kind of funny, running across your question... as was looking for your post about "Indigo Girls", as SSB going also.

Link to the "Beer Theater", my FAVE! :) :) :)

Tickets are only $5.75 (at the most) and first run films... really a great place. Kind of SSB's "Cheers", as even if a long line, they pour my beer and leave it on the the corner of the counter so that I can go straight into the film. On one ocassion (Star Wars, Episode II), they brought me a beer in the theater, as I went straight in as was running late... haha!

Usually see at least two films a week there.. hate going anywhere else...
