She said he was mildly ADHD with an anxiety disorder (which we already knew about the anxiety part) and possibly some sensory problems and she recommends he go see a Occupational Therapist. She also said he was "A very bright little guy" about 10 times. She said his IQ was 136 which I thought was average, but I really have no idea.
Any feedback from other parents with children like this is appreciated!!

Good to hear.

136 is high actually. You may want to do a search on child IQ.

OT works well. My nephew does OT, and some of my students. It seems to help them.

We found out during my son's ADHD eval that his IQ was 139. They told me that he was *gifted* with that level of IQ. So no, 136 is definitely not average. My DDs IQ is around 117, which I think is high average. Doesn't really matter much anyone, they both kind of struggle in school.

That sounds like good news. Once you get him on an even keel, he should do fine. :)

How old is Jack? My nephew got the same diagnosis early
and they changed it to Aspergers Syndrome later. Aspergers
is a mild form of autism. My nephew has loads of unexplained
fears, mild compulsion, high intelligence, difficulty understanding
the whys and hows of others emotions, trouble focusing on things
he is not interested in. Low muscle tone(not a great athlete). Sensory disorder was mentioned early on and still exists but is
a common component of Aspergers. Same thing going on with
my friend's son - high intelligence, difficulty conforming, major
sensory disorder, innappropriate behavior around others - was
ADHD/ADD and obsessive compulsive with sensory - now Aspergers(same stuff). Sorry to inflict myself on ya but sometimes
these diagnosis evolve, keep a mindfull eye out.
These kids are so special and need lots of information about
how to operate in the world!

Do we have the same nephew? (You're not my sister, Lee , are you?:D) My nephew is OCD, fearful, highly intelligent (and creative) but not good with emotions. He finds an interest (like baseball, for instance) and learns everything there is to possibly learn about it -- practically becomes the world's leading authority. I always suspected Aspergers, but he was only diagnosed OCD.

I have no ideas nor input, Mermaid, but do wish Jack and you well. My best.

I am just now responding to this thread because on Thursday (July 1) I took DS, age 12, to Children's Medical Center for an evaluation and they say he has ADD/Asperger's Syndrome. Before, I chalked his behaviour up to immaturity on his part but it was obviously more. Funny thing is he made it up to middle school before it showed up in his school work. But reading all the symtoms on the list, he fits right in there! I guess with changing classes all the time in middle school, he had trouble keeping up! His doctor wants to put him on ritalin at the end of the month so it can be at work by the time school starts. So I'm anxiously hoping things will improve. Thankfully, because of his poor performance in school this last year, he was recommended for a special program. He will not be changing classes, like he did last year. Two teachers will alternate the subjects and the teacher/student ratio will be about 1:15 and there will be weekly communication with the parents. Is there a particularly good book that deals with Aspergers???

TC:cool:

I dont have any input either, but I do wish you and Jack the very best. Maybe now you are on the right track and it will all be uphill from here on. :D

Mermaid, you might want to do a little homework on Asperger's. Sometimes Aspergers can be mistaken for ADHD, however, the anxiety piece and the sensory issues may be an indicator that you should do a little more checking.
