FINALLY COMPLETE! 10/3/2010- But Why is the Rum Gone? Disneyween 2007

Crystal,
I got an email from the crocs website today & they have free shipping until 8/28 with this promotion code back to school. Thought you might could use that for the other crocs you want.
Tomorrow I get to do the 2 month dance....yippee!!!!!

Okay, DISers, I need some help!

I've been looking all over the internets for pirate costumes, and I just can't find what I'm looking for.

Basically, I'm looking for a top in this general style:

But without the skirt attatched.

I love this one:

rusticladypirate.jpg

but the set includes the pants, which I don't need, and is way too expensive.

I prefer the white shirt/red bodice combo, too. Or something involving black/white/red.

I'm also on a hunt for shoes. I've found some pirate boots that I'm seriously drooling over, but none that I'm tempted to wear around the MK (or even just the Adv Club) for hours on end.

To refresh your memory, I'm wearing my Melodia pants, which look like this:

except black. The slit on the side shows enough leg that I need cute shoes, but it doesn't go up quite high enough to work with calf-high boots, really. Suggestions? Ideas? Anything?

My fall back plan is to make a shirt & bodice- I bought the pattern back in like February, but never got around to finding fabric. The problem with doing it yourself is that it usually ends up costing almost as much as buying a costume, and turns out nowhere near as good! (in my case, anyway!)

Now that September is approaching, I'm expecting Halloween costume stores to start popping up, but I'm getting a little nervous about finding the perfect costume in 2 months! EEP! The makeup, pants, and jewelry are the only parts I really have figured out so far!

I love the third one! But if its too expensive dont spend the money on it...I think you would rather have the extra at Disney. So With that said the first one is my second choice :goodvibes

Have you thought about buying boot tops? Any of the online costume shops have them available. And you can put them on something you already have that is comfortable.

If you look through the online costume shops, you may find things you can use, and you don't have to wait for the seasonal stores to open. Of course you do have to pay for shipping.

I'm wearing a three piece dress and I have to make alterations to it, but since I can't sew they are going to involve a lot of Velcro.

You have now reminded me I have to go to the site to buy flowers for my hat.

Ah, velcro! Best invention since the post-it note! I can sew, but I'm very lazy, so I have more than one dance costume that's held together mostly by safety pins.

I like the boot tops, but I'm not sure which shoes to put them over- I doubt somehow that they'd still be convincing over Crocs. :rolleyes1

This would be so much easier if I just knew what the weather would be like those nights!

hmmmm...have you checked these places already? you probably have i suppose!

i think that considering the pirate craze everyone is in right now, there will be a ton of options for you once the halloween stores start opening up! good luck, matey!

Crap! It better not rain on Halloween.

I knew my obsession with Renaissance fashion would eventually come in handy.

This pirate shirt is totally awesome, but apparently only comes in red. This one is nice and comes in various colors, but is pretty much no-frills (literally). This one is a blouse I actually own. pirate: Rather piratey looking IMO. Here's a better picture of it from another website:

Double crap! I hadn't even thought about rain! I was only thinking how it's hard to guess if it will be hot and sweaty (and thus the lighter the costume the better), or a little cold! (long sleeves!) Maybe if we start a petition against rain, it will comply?

(I'm not particularly concerned about Halloween itself, since we basically have to get from the bus stop to the Adv Club... but dang it! Now that I think about that, that's far enough to turn smoky pirate makeup into drowned rat pirate makeup! Just my luck, that would be the night with a cute Hathaway.)

Has anyone been to a MNSSHP where it's rained? Did it literally rain on your parade?

Ooh, I've seen Dress Like A Pirate, but not the other one yet! Thanks! :thumbsup2 I'm hoping that our totally unoriginal costume ideas will result in lots to pick from when the stores open!

AWESOME! :thumbsup2 I really like the shirt you posted the picture of- the design avoids that whole "too much fabric squished up under the bodice" thing!

Another good pirate website--had a few costumes I didn't see on others....in fact found one my hubby would let me order for him to wear on Pirate Night on our cruise.

First of all I am the self professed queen of saftey pinning! It made me laugh when you mentioned pinning a lot of your costumes together! :rotfl: I can sew I just choose not too, I even have a sewing machine...with the stickers still on it, untouched by human (or my) hands!

I think you will def have a lot of options out there for a good pirate-y top! Have you checked out ebay to see if there are any costumes? I am an ebay-aholic so when in doubt - ebay it! :)

when we wer ein Dl and went to the pirate's lair they had CMs dressed up as pirates keeping the guests in line near Capt Jack, and they had those pull over boot thingies over what looked to me as plain dress shoes or really plain sneakers or something. I bet you could find a comphy pair of flats to wear and attach the boot thingies to them....preferably with safety pins!

Good luck with the costume!!

I just canceled my order with Amazon, because I just felt... icky...about paying $13 for shipping. $13 is almost enough for a Kungaloosh for you and a friend!

I ordered the Capris through Shoebuy with a discount code, so at least I'll be able to send them back for free if they don't work. Now I just need to find teh Sassaris!

You can order from crocs.com right now for free shipping. The code is backtoschool. It expires 8/28 though. I ordered some more cleo's (brown/cotto) from shoemall.com (they have free shipping) but wanted to celery/pearl ones too. They didn't have those nor did they have the patras. So I looked at crocs.com and they are all out of stock on the patras I want in size 8, so if I just bought the one pair of cleos, I'd have to pay the shipping (b/c usually shipping is free if you spend $50 or $75 or something), so I said, I'll just wait. Then I got the email with the free shipping so i bought the one pair! Hehe.

Crystal - try surfanddirt.com :thumbsup2 I got my last couple pairs form them - cheap and fast shipping.

Thanks for the link! They had the patras I have been looking for, so I ordered them! Free shipping too! So last night, I ordered one pair of celery/pearl Cleo's from crocs.com (w/ free shipping), today I ordered two pairs of Patras (red/white and khaki/pearl) from surfanddirt.com (w/free shipping) and several items from disneyshopping.com (cuz they are having a 50% fall sale) for $5 shipping. Whoo hoo!

Sorry to commandeer ;) your TR Crystal, but I am just so excited, esp about the Crocs purchase!

According to USP tracking, it took 2 days for my shoes to get from Maine to Earth City, Missouri, where they have no been sitting for FOUR DAYS!

Dear postal people: It is not nice to hold a girl's shoes hostage!

I found this

vestf_ren_24_091.jpg

at http://www.aladdinslamp.net/costumes/pirates/pirates.html

It's $19.98 for the shirt and vest but the vest only comes in black or brown. I'll keep looking for ya!

ETA: Oops, my bad, I think the price is only for the vest. Sorry.

Ooh, I like it!

You guys are awesome costume finders! :thumbsup2

I found this one on ebay:

It's PERFECT, but also costs approximately one million dollars. Next!

As long as you are using the proper nautical terms, all is good! (Pirates was on TV yesterday while I was at work, and I had to grin when Jack said Commandeer! We're going to commandeer that ship... nautical term.""

I once had to perform in a bra-type top that was held together in the back ONLY by safety pins, because our costume chick didn't have time to finish it before the show. And boy, howdy, was I wedged in there! Luckily, it held up!

Ooh, that's a good thing for me to remember! Any and all money I blow on a costume is really just an "investment" for my future cruise! :thumbsup2

My shoes have arrived!!!

shoe1.jpg

Hello, I have giant feet.

shoe2.jpg

Shoe, sans foot. I was a little disappointed at first, because I thought they were *black* and blue, but as you can see, they are most certainly grey. They're growing on me quickly, though.

shoe3.jpg

The little between-the-toe part, which I'm hoping is as comfy as my Athens!

shoe4.jpg

In the tradition of Tiggerbelle's new report- Jack (Morty) in a shoe!

Yes, I did get more than one shoe, but my other foot is all scratched up by the cat, and I didn't think you'd want to see that.

The fit is just the tiniest bit off- I have plenty of room up front for my toes, but my heel almost hangs off the back- it's right on the edge. Oh no, does this mean I have fat heels? Great, another body thing to worry about! :rotfl2:

They also have the tiniest bit of a heel, which gives me that inch I need to bump me up to 6 foot. Whew! I'm finally tall enough to ride small world!

I need to wear them around the house a little today to decide if they'll work. I'm tempted to go up a size, but I'm afraid that if I do, they'll be WAY too big. I may just need to get used to these fitting much closer than my roomy Athens do!

Also? They smell awesome. New Shoe Smell beats new car smell, hands down!
