FINALLY COMPLETE! 10/3/2010- But Why is the Rum Gone? Disneyween 2007

Ok - :offtopic: There's a Sims thread??? Someone direct me sim-addicted butt to where it is!!!! :) Thanks....back to your previously scheduled TR!

I ignore you guys for a few days, and you turn into off-topic rebels! Love it! :thumbsup2

Another lurker outing themselves...

I actually just happened to be browsing, remembered your name from the Sims thread, and decided to read about your upcoming adventures. Little did I know I'd be sitting at my cubicle laughing hysterically..especially at the baggallini demo! Too funny!

I hope to continue following your many pre-planning adventures! :)

Thanks for de-lurking! It's good for my ego! :upsidedow

Super sweet! I sent Disneyween and YOU a friend request. I'm Amanda, by the way!

I made the ADRs for my October Disney trip yesterday and I thought of you and DISNEYWEEN!!! Only a few months to go, right? At least I tell myself it's a few. :rotfl:

I need to remember to log in to the Disneyween myspace and approve people!

At least we're nearly down to 6 months! That's practically "only a few months"! Just don't think of it as half a year- it's depressing!

Hey Crystal! I'm loving the pre-trip! We're (me, DH and DS) going to be there the same time as you! Oct 26-Nov. 3....at the BCV (a one bedroom for us)! Maybe we'll run into you there!! Looking forward to all your planning adventures.

Oooh, what kind of mob favors did you do to get a BCV room? Although I guess 1 bedrooms are easier to get than studios- too bad we're poor non-owner peasant types! ;)

Wave us down if you see us! Or come to our Adv Club meet, once we figure out what night we're doing it!

Love the pre-Trip report-I use a LL Bean travel bag (a large has fit a large-ish camera confortably). Love the cat pictures!
I also added Disneyween on Myspace.

I can't wait to shop for new bags! Hopefully it won't result in any personal trauma ;)

How many bags of loot do you plan to do? If you aren't planning on too many, I like the more expensive bags. But as you say the cheaper ones will do the trick. Arrrrrrrn't ya creative?pirate:

I think I'm doing around 20. Most of the stuff I have so far came in packs of 24, so that gives me a few spares of everything. I don't think we're popular enough to run into more than 20 people, so we should be set! (And yet I insisted on ordering 100 nametags instead of 50... I guess not just everyone is cool enough for a loot bag!)

haha a myspace page for Disneyween! Love it.
I actually like the first bag best - the cheapest one - only partially because I am frugal ;) I like that you can see what's inside.
Those pants are gorgeous, and I am very envious of your ability to sew things. 'Learn to sew' is on my life list of things I wish to accomplish...someday.

I looooove my pants! She currently only sells them on ebay, and they're stupidly expensive, but.... looooove! I'm so glad they are finally getting use other than dance class!

How Cute!

I think she was getting jealous that I mostly only post pictures of Tallulah, so I figured I'd be sure to let her in the report this time!

Not a whole lot new in the Disneyween planning shenanigans! I'm at work, and just spent an hour or so typing up a (17 page) Disneyween activity list to send to the fabulous Ms Kellylou. What good is working somewhere with a printer if you don't abuse the free ink opportunity? Plus it kept me entertained for an hour or so, so all is good! :dance3: (If only those smileys were wearing pirate hats, it could be the official Disneyween smiley!)

I promise to report back when I have more to report! We are nearing the 6 month mark, though- I feel like we should celebrate!

Great trip report! I get hilarious entertainment along with satisfying my Disney fix! :lmao:

Anywho, I'm fairly new to the boards, and pretty much a lurker, though I am toying with trying a TR for my next trip, whenever that will be (hoping for several, so we will see). :wizard:

I haven't caught up yet (on page 5) and I can't now cuz an oven and some fish are calling my name :rolleyes1 , but I will soon. And then I will need to go back and read some of your others.

Personally, I am doing my best to be at WDW in October, as well. I am waiting to hear on a new job, and then I can start making my plans to buy an AP, then get set to go in Oct for a long w/end, Dec for a long w/end, and then a long, long trip in May/June 08. In Oct I am toying with going at the same time as you, b/c my birthday is October 29th (just missed being a witch, though some will say, close enough!). I went in the beginning of Oct last year, so that is a possibility also, though I want to miss the free dining crowd. I'm just afraid WDW at Halloween may be a bit busier than I'd like...but maybe not. (Got to stop rambling) Anyway, if I am there at the same time as you, I may be alone, and I have never been to the AC, so count me in! :woohoo:

Okay, so keep up the good work! :teacher:

Awesome! If we end up at the AC on your birthday, I'll even buy ya a drink! (Note to self: Pack embarassing party hats!) :rolleyes1

Surviving Between Disney Trips: Coping Mechanisims

The real world sucks, let’s just face it. Sure, it has its moments, but I’m pretty sure that just about any of us would pick a day at Disney World over most days at home, right?

So what do you do when Disney is still half a year away, and the real world is doing its thing of stress and bills and doctor visits and, well, reality?

You fake it.

The idea came to me today while I was at the grocery store buying cheese. (Am I the only one who occasionally gets cravings for some really good cheese?) As I was selecting stinky cheeses and a baguette of French bread, it made me think of the cheese plate at the Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot.

If it were legal to marry a building, I would wed the Boulangerie Patisserie. No, not Victoria and Alberts, or even Le Cellier with its yummy cheese soup, but the tiny little pastry shop in France that makes me so very happy. It is where they keep the chocolate mousse with the tiny white chocolate triangle on top, and the fruit tarts and éclairs, and so many other tasty things that you could probably live at Epcot for a month and not try them all. Plus, they have the cheese plate, which comes with its very own mini baguette! It reminds me of the Peanuts cartoon where they go to Paris, and they carry around bread.

So while I was shopping for cheese today, I had an idea: Why not try to recreate an evening at Epcot at home? Can I maybe trick my brain into thinking I’m really there?

It was then that I remembered that the grocery store I was at- the only one that sells good cheese- is also the only one with an international section! I remembered being really excited when they added this section last year, because I had recognized some of the candy from Epcot! I found a few things that I usually buy on vacation, and I was all set.

Here’s what I ended up with:

cheeseplate.jpg

Fruit & Cheese Plate, which includes The Best Brie Ever, fresh mozzarella, asiago, wheat thins, nut thins, French bread, and dried mango. All yummy!

The other things:

epcotnight.jpg

Yim Yam and Pocky are fun little desserts from Japan, Ritter Sport is the chocolate I usually buy in Norway… or is it Germany? One or the other! And the Jones soda is a stretch, but it is watermelon flavored, so it’s kind of like drinking the China watermelon soda at Ice Station Cool, right?

I came home, got my things together, and put on my favorite song that plays before Illuminations. Then I found a video of Illuminations on YouTube, sat back, and enjoyed.

The verdict? It’s not the same as Disney World, but a pretty darn good substitute when you’re desperate for some Disney. Plus, I had the joy of dining with my favorite dinner companion- someone I *never* get to eat with at the World:

If you’re feeling some of the no Disney trip blues, I highly suggest having an Epcot night of your own!

As for the Disneyween plans, my pile of pirate booty keeps growing! Sadly, I can’t show it to you, because half of it is for a surprise for the lovely Kellylou, and the other half goes in gift bags for you fine folks, so it all must be kept secret for now! Oooh, the suspense!

Also, I got Pirate Mail from Kelly today! I sent her a package of Piratey things to mark 7 months until our trip, and today I got one from her! Included is a fabulous looking board game called Pirate’s Bounty that I must remember to pack on the trip! (I’ve actually been considering buying the Pirates version of The Game of Life for our trip! It’s too bad they don’t make a Pirate-themed Cranium. Kelly and I kick booty at Cranium! We have the sort of friendship that is perfectly suited for Cranium, in that I can draw a squiggle on a paper with my eyes closed, and she will know that it is supposed to be a surfboard. We won a monkey once:

But that’s a whole other story.

HAR love the meal recreation idea! That plate looks delicious. The other stuff looks good too - I've had yam yam before and thought it was *not* delicious but I haven't had the vanilla kind. And I luv vaniller.

Did you get your Not So Scary Halloween Party tickets today??? I did! We're going on Tuesday Oct. 23, which I hope will be a less crowded day. I'm sooooo excited. Do you make a trip spreadsheet and look at it when you need a lil' Disney? Er, I do!

I can't wait to hear more planning updates. I already made all my ADRs and just have to buy our park hopper passes, so I will do further planning through you! :thumbsup2

Yep, the ADR window has opened up. We got everything we wanted ... Le Cellier (twice), Boma, Teppanyaki, and Cali Grill. I'm not planning on hitting any of the Halloween parties, but will probably be at the AC on 10/31. Also leaning towards booking the Keys to the Kingdom tour.

Awesome! If we end up at the AC on your birthday, I'll even buy ya a drink! (Note to self: Pack embarassing party hats!) :rolleyes1

Wow, thanks. I feel honored. :flower:

I will definitely keep everyone informed on what I decide to do. Like I mentioned, I am waiting to hear on a new job. I am a teacher and I left my old school/district and have been subbing this school year in a different district. I am pretty sure I have a full time teaching position in the district I have been subbing in, but have not found out for certain yet. Ishould know this week, by the earliest, or within a month, by the latest. Then I can start my plans!

P.S. I think the MNSSHP dates are official now! :cheer2:

Hahaha, oh Crystal, you rule. I loved the fake Epcot night. I am SO JEALOUS of your grocery store that has an international section! That is amazing! I can't even imagine buying Pocky anywhere but WDW. So cool. I cracked up at your crocodile t-shirt. It was one of those things I didn't get at first and then it hit me and I just cracked up. Also, i'm really excited for you guys to bring sexy back to Disney World.

Anyway, i'm glad to see you have started your pre-trip so early, can't wait for more!

I LOVE this idea! DF did this for me one REALLY hot day last summer when I was going through Disney withdrawals. He put on YouTube to the show that runs on the hotel TVs and made one of the rum runners from Dawa Bar (we have their recipe) and then went for a walk to the street fair that was going on outside. Not quite the same, but close enough. :lmao:

So I thought I'd check in only to find I haven't read the thing yet, what sort of Crystal fan does that make me? A very bad one, my sincerest apologies:sad2: Looks like the plans are coming together nicely and I love your costume ideas, only wish i could come up with something like that, sadly I have no time to create so mine will be internet bought this time. You had me in stitches with the photos and caption pics so far, and i can't wait to see what else you get up to, have a great weekend xx

I get cravings for gourmet cheeses too. Just thought I'd jump in with that. I'll have to try out that patisserie. :thumbsup2

I love your ideas for bringing Disney home for epcot night! the closest thing I've ever done to that is spray my stuffed chicken that I keep in my purse with Epcot France perfume. Then for a few weeks, if I missed Epcot I could just smell him. :rolleyes1 Did I actually just admit that?
I am really going through Disney withdrawal lately (still 1 1/2 years til i will get to go back, looks like. :sad2: ), so perhaps an Epcot night is in store for me. Yesterday I went mother's day shopping at a mall with a friend, and every time we passed the bakery i exclaimed how much it smelled like Main Street in Magic Kingdom. Hey, that's an idea - they should make Disney-scented candles...I would snatch up Main Street Bakery, Stale Splash Mountain Water, and one of those multi-layered candles for all the smells of Soarin'.
I hope you have more of these Disney-at-home nights in the works, i'm sure all of us addicts could use the advice!

I want a Main Street Confectionary candle!!!

And better yet, how about stale ride water PERFUME? Eau de Splash Mtn! :rotfl:

 that makes me think of Demeter perfume. They have scents like "gin and tonic", "graham cracker", "banana flambe" and something called "croquembouche " (no, I have never heard of that either).

They should team up with Disney, I want to be able to rub the scent of "Illuminations fireworks smoke" on my wrists whenever I please!

Mmmmmmm, cheese... :thumbsup2

Sadly, I never made it into the Boulangerie last week.:sad1: I met people outside, but never actually went in. I'm with you - one of my favorite WDW spots :cloud9:

But that’s a whole other story.

Please... do tell popcorn::

Stale Splash Mountain Water

I thought I was the only one who considers Splash Mountain Water a great nostolgic Disney smell! :rotfl: Glad to know I'm not alone!

btw Crystal, great TR so far...I just came back from a trip with DS and DMom (Mom's 1st trip EVER!) and am officially in Disney withdrawel. I usually don't have it this soon after getting home, but we had such a great trip, and it seemed so short. Now I'll live vicariously through you for awhile :upsidedow

What about "Rome burning?"

Get some Lapsang Souchong tea and sniff it, smells exactly the same.

Hey guys! Just a quick check-in ;)

I do have some fun new things to share about the trip, but most of them are secrets from Kelly and/or Katie, so I'm hesitant to post about them here yet! I'm not sure if they've been checking this thread much (ahem! I will now be accepting applications for new friends who actually read my reports! ;) ) but I want to be on the safe side. I promise that I'll get to post about some of them soon, though!

One thing I can share- I came up with a fun idea last night: There's a photography project on the web that's been around for years now called 26 things. The basic idea is that they put up a list of 26 words, usually ones that are open to all sorts of interpretation (ie you're more likely to see a word like "confusion" than something like "dog"). During the month, each person takes a photo to represent each of the 26 words, and submits the link to the site. At the end of the month, it's fascinating to look through everyone else's photos to see how they chose to capture each words. (One person's "confusion" photo might be a traffic jam, while someone else's is a child doing math homework.)

Anyway, I had been planning to print out all of the old lists for myself to use as a sort of jumbo Disney photography project- I wanted to wander around and see how many of them I could do. But then I had a better idea! Why not come up with our own lists, split up in a park for an hour or so, and see what we came up with? Kelly's up for it, so now I just have to see if Katie wants to, too!

So here's my question for you guys: Anyone have some fun word ideas? I'm not sure how many we'll end up with on the list, since I'm not sure how long it will take (maybe I should do a practice run at home!), but I'd love to include you all by letting you suggest most of the list!

Also: My June trip is STILL up in the air as to if it will happen or not! It's a long story, which I'm sure I'll get into if I actually go and write a trip report! But just so you know, there may be a trip in a month, or not! Keep your fingers crossed for yes! :)

Also also: Sorry I've been slow to reply to comments lately! I promise to get caught up ASAP!

Also also also: Kellylou graduates from grad school next weekend! HOORAY for her!

Crystal, what a great idea! You could do an entire photographic trip report just with the results of your pictures.

Hmmm... words....words...interesting words...

**Puts on her best Maria von Trapp hat**

These are a few of my favorite words:

Logy
Intrigue
Weave
Replete
Cromulent

I'm sure I can think of some more once I get some coffee... ;)

And can I just say...it's nice to see you posting again. :goodvibes
