FINALLY COMPLETE! 10/3/2010- But Why is the Rum Gone? Disneyween 2007

pirate: Pirates Movie Report! pirate:

We went to the 8pm show last night! It was AWESOME! You will love it! Orlando looks hot at the end of the movie!!! Jack is hot the whole time! ;) The maelstrom part is very cool. That's all I'm sayin' for now! Oh, and make sure you stay until the end of the credits! :thumbsup2

Yayyyy! Another trippie from Crystal! I loved your January report, and I'm so glad I found this one!!

And guess what else! I posted this in the Community Forum, but you might be interested too, since you're such a Pirates lover! pirate:

I saw Geoffrey Rush last night in our local grocery store here in Melbourne, Australia! He bought a packet of cigarettes, then he walked home! He was wearing old black jeans and a yucky grey sweater, and he looked old and wrinkly, but we were so excited!!

All night we were saying, "We saw Captain Barbossa!!! Eeeeee!" :woohoo:

I am very sad for my fellow disneyweeners (ha!) that did not see the yummy new Pirates movie. I have fallen head over boots in love with the dashing, handsome, yummy, delicious, and otherwise strapping young Will Turner. I shall have him for breakfast, thank you.

Please tell me he will be there, please!

Oh Dear KellyLou We may have to have a sword fight for young Mr Turner for I too am in total lust of his sexy, dark strapping self, savvy??

I just found your pre trip and I just love it! I must subscribe!!!

Your little photo-scrapbook project is such an awesome idea!! You have a very creative mind! :goodvibes I look forward to reading all about your planning.

A few updates in the world of planning...

I checked the rehab schedule today, and it looks like SSE is set to be closed from July 9- Nov 1! Am I the only one who thinks it's really sad that Epcot's icon will be CLOSED on Epcot's 25th birthday? That's just not right!

If it does open back up on Nov 1, at least, we'll be there for the reopening, which is kind of nifty.

In more exciting news, Kellylou got a job! So we'll know soon exactly how many days she'll be there, which means I'll finally be able to make ADRs, resort reservations, and plan for real- hooray!

I've been trying to find a good autograph book to use- if you recall, we had the idea to carry around a book and instead of getting the usual autographs (Mickey, Goofy, etc.), to have people who were a part of our trip somehow sign it- bartenders, the people who check our bags as we enter the park, a CM we trade pins with, etc.

So far, this plan has hit 2 snags! 1) I can't find a book! It probably doesn't help that I'm picky- I know I want one that's around 4x6 or 5x7- big enough for autographs and to decorate the pages, but small enough to be convenient to carry around. I know I want unlined pages, a "landscape" layout (ie longer than it is tall, and opening on the side), and it needs at least 50 or so pages. You wouldn't *think* that would be so hard to find, but strangely, it has been!

I have found this POTC one on ebay:

6aae_1.JPG

It looks like it might work, but I'd rather find one with a plain cover, since I'm planning to redecorate the cover, anyway. Do any of you have this one that could tell me what it's like inside?

Snag #2 in the master plan was that when I originally imagined the autograph book, I thought we could get one of those little polaroid cameras with the sticky film, snap a picture of the person, and stick it on their page. What can I say, I like instant gratification! Of course, I could just snap a regular photo of them, but then it's not printed till we get home, and what if we forget who's who? The little instant camera just seemed easier, and more fun.

Easier, that is, until I found out that they stopped making film for them years ago! D'oh!

I've been searching ebay, and almost all of the film for sale is expired (so it may or may not still work), and the few rolls available that aren't yet expired are selling for crazy prices like $30 for a roll that takes 12 pictures.

So, do I suck it up and end up spending like $40 to make my original idea happen, or give up on this one, and settle for just adding the photos when I get home?

Still To Do:

-Pirate costume! I've got a few major parts of it down, but I still either need to find or make a pretty large portion of it. I'm still keeping an eye out for little doo-dads to add in as embelishments, too.

-ADR's- The 180 day mark is long past, but I'm hopeful that we won't have trouble getting the ones we want. So far, it looks like the list will be:
* WCC- Can't decide between a breakfast or a lunch/dinner here, but I'm leaning towards breakfast.
* 50s Prime Time- Bring on the S'mores!
* Afternoon tea @ the GF
* RFC- although I don't think you make this one through Disney, do you?
* Mama Melrose (Maybe?)
* Sci-Fi (another maybe-I've heard the food isn't great, but I'd love the atmosphere. Maybe just desserts?)
* Restaurant Marrakesh- Yet another maybe. Being a bellydancer myself, I've always wanted to go, but it's not up on my must-do list.

And the non-ADR places in which we must eat:
* The Mara- Zebra domes keep callin' my name! Plus I love taking a lunch break at AKL!
* Boulangerie Patisserie - cheese plate! chocolate mousse! Heaven!
* Kaki Gori - I recently spent like $40 ordering snow cone syrup online so that I can recreate these at home (already have a snow cone maker, thankfully.)
* Lots and lots of F & W fest booths!

Also to do:

-T-shirts: One of Kelly's favorite words is "rockstar", and while looking online for Pirate themed shirts, I found one that said "Party like a rockstar, live like a pirate!". What a perfect slogan for this trip! I totally think we needs shirts that say that!

-Resort reservations, of course. I'm hoping that some people who had BCV studios reserved switched their reservations to the new AKL villas! The whole time we've been planning, I've imagined our trip taking place at BCV, and I guess I've gotten way too attached to the idea!

Actually done:
- We have business cards! I was poking around online a couple of months ago, and found a site where you could get 100 cards made for like $4. (About $7 once you add shipping.) I thought it would be fun to have some made with our myspace address and e-mail that we could give to fun people we meet on the trip. (I've met a few people from various internet Disney boards that have done this, and thought it was a great idea!). I ordered them with our hilarious "bringing sexy back" graphic, and then forgot about it.

A couple of weeks later, there was a cute little box in my mailbox containing 100 business cards for... Washington Theraputic Massage? They had sent me the wrong cards!!! (Somewhere in Washington, some poor massage therapist is asking themselves "What the heck is a Disneyween?")

I went back to the website I ordered them from, and submitted an e-mail. After a week, I still hadn't heard anything, so I contacted them again. STILL nothing! Finally, I used the e-mail address on the site (The others were sent through a built-in form on the website), and that one FINALLY got a response, and they shipped my cards out! Yay!

-And one last to-do- I still need new Crocs! I'm wearing my beloved Croc Athens flip-flops today, and they're so very comfy, but I've pretty much worn the tread off the bottom (as I discovered in the Beach Club in January when I slipped in water and ended up doing the splits!) I really want some of the cute new designs, but I haven't found a store that sells them yet! D'oh!

I think that about sums it up for the current State of the Disneyween Address! We're down to 144 days! That 100 day mark is approaching fast!

Crystal, what about a small artist's journal? They come in many sizes, including 4"x6" and are usually hard covered (black, not white) and can be found in landscape or portrait layout. The paper is acid-free and heavier weight so you can use markers for the autographs and be quite creative with decorations. Should be about $7 to $12 for the book.

I can't believe it's down to 144 days for you!

Hey Crystal,

You should check a crafy store, (michaels or Joanne's ) for their Half sized Scrapbooks. They have a plain thick cover with plain papers inside spiral bound on the side (landscape). The covers come in some colors (not sure right now) the books them selves are about 5x7. I bought one a while ago to make into a recipe scrapbook. If you ahve an Archivers near you, you might try there as well or another scrapbooking store.

Happy Hunting!

The tickets arrived about a week later, and they have basically the same designs on them that all tickets have right now. I had been somewhat hoping for something Halloweeny, but at least they're the hard plastic kind! I still don't quite understand why tickets made to be used once are the plastic credit card type, but Annual Passes are the paper kind! :confused3

I completely agree! It makes no sense at all. :confused3

I for one am very excited to see the updates made to SSE. I love it now so I can't wait to see something new and updated. Especially the end. How sad is it getting off that ride?

I'm sure you'll get all your ADRs, especially if you are semi flexible with the days and times. I'm eating at Sci Fi for the first time next week and I'm very excited about it. You can check out my review of it in my TR when I get back (is that a nice TR plug or what?) I have eaten at Marrakesh and I can see why you personally would be interested in going there but I think it is way overpriced, even for Disney. My meal was good and I definitely left full and satisfied, but not really needing to repeat the experience. WCC - I did breakfast here and got the skillet and I think with all the fun nonsense going on, my food got cold and it was annoying asking for more stuff. I would definitely eat there again but would probably order something off the menu - not the all you can eat breakfast skillet. Mama Melrose - one of the worst meals I have ever had at Disney and will never eat there again. But I have read many people love it so maybe it's just me. Kaki Goris - have you actually had one at Epcot? Because I have not and I've been itching to try one for over a year but I never do - I'm either too full or rushing to get somewhere. This weekend - I'm getting one. It's settled.

I love saying Rockstar as well - those shirts sound cute.

And I actually laughed out loud reading about your business card mishap. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Hope you get all the resort choices you want! It sounds like its gonna be a really fun time!

Thanks for the suggestions! I've looked at some small scrapbooks, but all of the ones I've found so far have the slip-in pages with the plastic covers, which wouldn't quite work. I like the artist journal idea- I found a moleskine reporter's notebook on amazon that might work!

Sadly, living in the Middle of Nowhere, the nearest craft stores are an hour and a half away. And thanks to my lovely (STILL!) screwed up ears, I still can't drive long distances. Ordering from Amazon may be my best bet!

I'm looking forward to the updates too- especially the unload area- it's sad seeing it blank! But I'm still apprehensive about the changes- there are some things I will really miss if they change!

Yup, I usually try to get at least one per trip. I don't know if eating it at Epcot makes shaved ice taste better or what, but they're so yummy! I always get the rainbow: honeydew melon/tangerine/strawberry. Plus, at $2.25, they're one of the cheapest snacks at WDW!

Crystal! Lookie what I found!!!

Pirates of the Caribbean Crocs!!!

Happy Shopping! :goodvibes

Thanks, TDC Nala! I don't know why that amuses me so much, but it does! :)

Also- I love your evil dining plan graphic!

Hey Crystal! Sorry I haven't been around much - life's been crazy! But it sounds like things are coming along nicely for your trip :thumbsup2

Bummer about the Polaroid film. It really was a great idea!

Well, I admit I'm a big stoopid when it comes to buying things for trips.

I mentioned in my last post about wanting to get one of those polaroid i-zone cameras with the sticky film, but about how they were stupidly expensive.

Well, I found some rolls of film for $10 each, and gave in and bought two. Regular polaroid film is $10 for 10 pictures, I rationalized, so it isn't all that bad. And 2 rolls will probably be fine. Now I just needed the camera.

I really should have paid more attention, though- the film I bought was for the i-zone 200, which sell for about 4x what the regular i-zones were selling for on ebay! D'OH!

So, I set off on an eBay search for the appropriate camera, and found that the best deal was one that also came with 3 rolls of film.

The smart thing to do would have been to re-sell the first rolls I bought, buy the cheaper kind and the cheaper camera.

That sounded like too much work, so I bought the camera that came with film. So now I have 5 rolls, and have spent an absurd amount of money given what I'm using it for.

I'm trying to justify it by thinking "hey, think about how expensive scrapbook supplies are!". And having little stick-on photos is WAY cooler than stickers, right? I really hope this little book turns out cool enough to justify all I'm putting into it!

Thanks to your suggestions, I did some poking around, and found what I think will be the perfect book! The large moleskine reporter notebook is something like 5x8- portable, but big enough to give people room to sign/decorate/etc. The cover is plain black- yay! It has a ton of pages, and they're thick, so you can paint/use markers/whatever, and it won't run through! They're a bit expensive, but I found a set of 2 on ebay that I should be able to get for a few dollars cheaper than what you pay for one new. Yay! Things are looking up!

I believe we have the sit-down meals narrowed down to the following:
GF Tea (obviously)
50's Prime Time lunch or dinner (late lunch/early dinner combo? We basically just want the Smores!)
WCC Breakfast
Boma dinner (maybe?)
Sci-Fi (maybe?)
RFC for desserts pre-PI one night

I don't want to commit to many ADRs- I hate feeling that I have to be at a certain park at a certain time- it's vacation! But I want to have a few, just because it's Kelly's first WDW trip, and I don't want her to miss out! We're mainly going with atmosphere and fun over fine dining.

We're also debating a spa afternoon- something that won't cost a zillion dollars, but will feel like a fun, girly retreat. Suggestions?

Finally- I checked in on the Crocker thread (the stuffed crocodiles passed form DISer to DISer in the parks), and found out that Freddie, the croc we were supposed to get, has turned up missing! Luckily, an identical croc named Felecia will be taking his place, so we'll still get a turn! Whew!

We're down to 140 days! If you need me, I'll be off selling all of my worldly possessions on ebay to pay for all of this pre-trip stuff I can't stop buying!

I have just spent all day reading your Jan 07 trippie & just want to make sure I am in for the ride for your next one.
My DH & I will be at WL on Oct 26th & attending MNSSHP that night before sailing on the Disney Magic Oct 27th.

P.S. There are so many things from your Jan trippie that I loved......but I think it is so awesome that you got to see Joe Rohde!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!!!!

Take us with you on the Magic! :)

Thanks for reading both reports! Getting to see Joe was the highlight of my last trip!

Wait, you have never been to Marrakesh? Oh you must go! It's my favorite place for lunch at WDW. You can get a big 3-course meal for around $13 (their lunch special), and I have never needed an ADR. The live music and belly dancer are pretty fantastic!
I too had heard bad things about the food at Sci-Fi, but checked it out anyway cause of the atmosphere. It was definitely worth it! The milkshakes are out of this world (pun not intended)

I am a big fan of anything that doesn't require an ADR! I wasn't sure if they still had entertainment during lunch, but if they do, I think it will have to go on The List!

Minor trip updates:

I've been talking to some DVC members on the rent/trade board, and it looks like EVERYWHERE dvc is sold out for our dates! :(

Actually, the :( smiley isn't quite sad enough. Is there a bawling one somewhere?

Anyway, it looks like we're going to have to come up with a new plan about where to stay! Rack rate for Beach Club for that time of year is around $350, so even with AP discount it would be about $250, so...um... NO! :scared:

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that SOMETHING will work out and we will be able to rent dvc points, but if not, I'm considering:

AKL
WL
POR

Maybe a combination of all of the above? We could also get the Swan or Dolphin (aka Swolphin, or my favorite name overheard at a bus stop- Swan and Mahi Mahi!) for $170/nt with a teacher discount. However, according to the discount page on the DIS, Oct 27-30 are no longer available for Swan discounts. BLARGH! This planning stuff is hard!

Other update- Poor Kellylou is sick with pneumonia! She'd been feeling icky all week, and then a few days ago while I was at work, I got a photo message on my phone with a picture of her in the hospital! Poor girl! She better get this whole "being sick" thing out of her system now, though- it will NOT be allowed as October approaches! :rolleyes1

I've heard that due to the F&W Fest, DVC points are impossible to get, esepcially at the Beach Club.

I'd go with the WL, as it's a great resort, has decent transportation, and only a boat ride away from the Monorail loop.

I think the Swolphin is also a good choice, even without the discount. You'd be walking distance from the F&W Fest!
