Filming movies in your town

There was a stretch of time when the state of Ohio was trying to push for more film productions (tax breaks, etc), so there was a few years when a lot of movies (including a couple MCU films) were partially shot here in Cleveland. That seems to have faded lately. I think the tax breaks have dried up.

To piggyback off the railroad disaster in Ohio, the movie White Noise was filmed in Ohio, some of the locations were very close to where it actually happened. My step-son is a film student at Kent State so he's been an extra a few times.

Well Last of Us was filmed here for a recent episode but honestly didn't remember them doing all that shutting down of streets last year. We did realize during the episode they def. put landscapes in the wrong "area". Like we saw Worlds of Fun and a few of the bridges and they said they were going through Wisconsin and the trees were clearly not from around here and then they eventually landed in KC and you saw more of the buildings and such that are here.

Tulsa King was supposed to be Kansas City King but incentives weren't enough so they changed it to Tulsa King.

There have been various shows filmed or referenced here but it's def. a lot more about what tax incentives a state can offer which IMO sucks, not that it's part of it but rather it's what many companies, directors, producers, etc use as their sole determination factor.

I'm in NYC, so I walk past filming quite often. Last week, while running in Central Park, I saw people filming season 2 of Feud. I watched Ryan Murphy talking with Tom Hollander (as Truman Capote) as I ran by.
That sorta reminds me when my husband lived in Long Beach they were filming for 2 days in the exact area of his apartment complex in Naples Island for S.W.A.T. I happened to be visiting my husband while this was going on. While I didn't poke my head out much (assuming I'd be in the way) I do know I saw people that were part of the film or production crew walking past the units (I think they were on lunch). We also were warned ahead of time about gunshot sounds and I did hear several of that. We also saw them shutting down a bridge part right in that area for a time.

We never did get to find what episode those scenes could have been for but it would have been cool to see what if any made it into the episode.

North shore of Chicago here. Lots of John Hughes stuff (I lived a couple blocks from the Home Alone house until last year when we downsized; now I live in Evanston, not far from the Sixteen Candles house), Ordinary People, Risky Business, parts of Road to Perdition (Rooney's mansion is right down the street from me now).

I grew up in Central Florida during the time when it was supposed to be "Hollywood East." That never quite materialized, but I was an extra in a ton of production as a kid. Probably the best was Problem Child 2, for a few reasons: First, John Ritter was the nicest man ever. He made a point to hang out with the extras between takes. Second, I got to be in the scene where the ride goes crazy and everybody starts puking. What could be better for a kid? It was freezing cold that night, and they said the mix would be warmed, but it wasn't. I was front and center on the ground and got absolutely drenched! It was filmed at Fun N Wheels, and they were using a motel across the street for dressing rooms, so we were able to go there and shower and change afterward. BUT, I wasn't originally supposed to be in the scene and so I didn't have a change of clothes. My pants weren't too bad, so I put them back on, but I ended up borrowing my dad's shirt to change into. He had been in wardrobe, so he didn't have a change of clothes either, so he ended up driving home shirtless lol. And then I was a little miffed when we got our paychecks. Like I said, Dad was in wardrobe. He was in a carnival booth wearing a straw hat at the very edge of the shot. One tiny little drop of the puke mix got on the hat (from wardrobe, not his own), so he got the same double pay I did for the scene. Didn't seem fair, when I had been soaked in the stuff lol. So then when the movie came out, we went to see it with some family. And during that scene, there was a front-and-center closeup on me (unfortunately cut for home release and streaming). My cousin, about 5 years old at the time, stood up and screamed to the entire theater, "Look! That's my cousin! She's right here! She's sitting right here! She's a STAR!!!!" I tried to disappear into the floor.

Anyway, that was the most eventful, but they were all fun. I wasn't in it, but Edward Scissorhands filmed in hometown of Lakeland. The shopping plaza was a couple blocks from my grandma's house, and was where she regularly did her shopping. That was fun to see.

I'm in New Orleans now, and there's TONS of filming all the time. I haven't gotten back into being an extra, but I know a ton of grips and sound guys and all. They're great people.

Lots of movies filed in Philly. I watched them film Twelve Monkeys outside my office window! Nice to see Brad Pitt go to work every day.

There was a movie made here in 1971 with some pretty big names of the time, and another one in 2010- not blockbusters but would have been nationally shown. Our town square was chosen in 2010 partly because it was easy to make it look like it was still 1960s. I work a block off the square and remember the old cars being parked down our street and we couldn't park in front. A few of the girls' friends were extras.

we eat on occasion at the diner johnny depp did the iconic recreation of charlie chaplin's bread roll dance in the movie 'benny and joon', go to the park he did the hat chase in as well. my kids went to school near the stunning exteriors that were used in robin williams' movie 'toys'. the show 'z nation' was very educational for us-we learned of all the places on the roads around our home to avoid in the event of marauding zombie hordes as well as the besting hiding places.

The filming of the first season of Mindhunter on Netflix I stumbled upon while out riding the bicycle in a neighboring neighborhood.

The Pepto-Bismol bowling alley in Kingpin is a local bowling alley.

Hospital scenes in Concussion were filmed at my local hospital.

Night of the Living Dead filmed in my town and little town down the road, Evans City, where the Night of the Living Dead Museum is.

My home town and surrounding communities have had a surprising number of TV shows and movies filmed here. It's so weird to me because this area is Boring Nowheresville, PA. But I just found out they are going to film a TV show on my ex-husband's family farm and I think it's so cool!

My ex-BIL sold the family farm almost a decade ago, but I'm excited to watch this show and see the house I lived in! It's a really cool old house and a beautiful farm so i can understand why they want to use it, but like a lot of old farmhouses the layout isn't great so I'm curious to see how they handle that. Lol, I'm sure this is the closest I'll ever be to Hollywood.

Anyone else have a lot of stuff filmed in your neck of the woods? Ever been an extra? I have several friends that were extras on various movies filmed in Pittsburgh while we were in college.

Oh good! I'm just north of Pittsburgh. I've been working as a BG (background) since this past summer (3 productions so far) and I've been waiting for more opportunities! I started doing it because my parents have been doing it for years, and when my dad died last year I decided to join the "family business" and do it. Mindhunter, Manhunt season 2, Archive 81, Sweet Girl, A League of Their Own (tv series), American Rust, Happiest Season, the Mr Rodgers movie with Tom Hanks, among many others are all things that they worked on. I've worked on Mayor of Kingstown, American Rust and an untitled movie by Ethan Coen. It's fun!

I have a friend who was an extra in Kingpin!

Pretty sure PA must still offer incentives to film here

Our city (Wilmington, NC) has a film studio (Screen Gem Studios), so it's very common for films and TV shows to be filmed here. It's very typical to see streets blocked off, signs for "crew parking" and the like. Added bonus, we have the ocean on one side, a river on the other, and it's very scenic. Downtown has both high-rise buildings and some cobblestone streets and antebellum houses. So, there's a lot of visual interest.

There are occasional casting calls for extras. My kids haven't shown a lot of interest, but some of their classmates have been in different stuff. A typical casting call might read: "$25 a day plus lunch; $100 a day if you have a military uniform".

I haven't seen any celebrities, but local places advertise "Katie Holmes' favorite salad!" and the like (Dawson's Creek was filmed here).
I think most of the teen dramas were filmed there when I was a teenager, I wanted to live in Capeside!

Where we are there are tons of things filmed all the time. On the next block they used the farmhouse for a few episodes of Empire and Orange is the New Black.

A few years ago Netflix used our house for a series and I have to say it was quite the experience. They completely redid our house to look like 80's style and then put it all back together again. We got to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks at one time and then a few months later for another 2 weeks. They took great care of our stuff in climate-controlled storage and we were very happy with the experience.
They used the yards of many of our neighbors for catering and bathroom trailers, generators, etc.

I live in the Vancouver area and tons of things are filmed here. I am constantly playing “ name the filming location “ when watching shows and movies.

I'm in Victoria and there are a ton of things that have been filmed here as well!

Probably the best know location here is Hatley Castle, most notably used as Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in the X-men and Deadpool movies as well as the Queen family mansion in the Arrow TV series.

Like E&Cmom, playing "name the filming location" is a favourite pastime around here! Also, spot the BC licence plates that they forgot to blur out. :D

😂 Or you see our buses come down the street. I was watching something that was suppose to be in San Francisco yet there were Translink buses in the shot. 😂. I have also see Canada Place in “Seattle” .
