Filling the CB with Debates- Yes or No

Do we alwyas have to talk about "dumb" topics on here? It's hard for me to act like a stepford, because I'm not one. Oh well, I'll see how it goes. I may not be around much longer!

Yes, but on the CB you must agree with everyone, or apologize for having an original opinion. Thats the way it has always been! Can't wait to see how this will go!

I truly don't see what the big deal is all about. Alot of the threads on the CB involve asking other posters' opinions, which in effect is almost like a debate, as alot of the opinions differed and usually the people replying explained why they felt the way they did. Isn't that somewhat of a debate? The only difference I see in the DB being closed is that the content will be more closely watched on the CB as alot of younger folks do frequent this board. I think if you continue to only participate in the threads that interest you then everything should be fine. Out of concern for the younger folk I'm assuming the regular DBers will keep their posts PG rated, and the ones that don't will be booted just like any other guideline breaking DISer.

Fantasies about what someone is wearing to work today? Thats one of the topics that gets discussed on the CB a lot?

Nope.. fantasies about how the CB is going to become the new DB home. There are guidelines here and they will be STRICTLY enforced.
None of the personal attacks, inuendo etc that was tolerated on the DB will be tolerated here.
Yes there will be some debates but there will be an entirely different tone or the posts will be deleted

Hey minniepumpernickle, don't be so blue. The CB is alot more than "fluff" type threads. There is plenty here for everyone. I'm not a "fluff" type person, so usually skip those threads. You can do the same. There are some very interesting posts over here, and you can start some of your own. Believe me, I'm not an argumentative person, but I will never agree with something that I don't believe in just for the sake of being agreeable, LOL. If I'm truly moved to respond to a thread I don't agree with, I respond in a respectful and courteous manner. Try not to have such formulated opinions about the CB. The CB is what we ALL bring to it, including you.

Do you remember how religious it was for awhile? I'm not knocking it, because I was raised Catholic, and in certain ways I can relate. It just can be a bit oppressive to focus on one way of thinking for too long.

no I think they (mods) want the debateing to stop slowly but surely. I don't think we should have the sexual stuff here either but I don't see what could be wrong with anything else. and the tone about the DB in the mods really makes me feel like I am some bad person. if I want to do some debate about politics am I going to get into trouble? tell me now.... I mean really...

I think instead of walking around it you should say weather we can still debate here or not and yes by the rules. I think by saying yes but you can't do this and you can't do that and making the people that were there feel entirely very bad. the rules are posted so why say to the specific group about how they need to follow the rules? Tell me if you don't want me here out front. I just am tired of the hidden language that's trying to drive me out. Please tell me so I don't embarass myself anymore by thinking I am welcome. I mean even the mod voted that we shouldn't post her!

ginna, I truly believe that everyone is welcome here, as long as they remember that the DIS is first and foremost a "family" site, meaning that kids do come and read here, for instance, my 14yo nephew. There was a thread on the CB recently discussing "brazilian waxes". I thought it was totally inappropriate for this site as the posts became very blatantly descriptive. I don't think the posters realized how far they were taking this thread. It was then locked. I really think all the Webmasters are looking for are posters who keep in mind that this isn't an Adults Only website.

I have said you are allowed to post debates here as long as they follow the board guidelines. If you go look you will see a few debates and so far they have.

Teresa yes this is a family site so if they are going to allow debates and want to protect kids and others from that then logically it would make sence to have a debate board lie we had mind you it should be made more secure with a separate login etc to eep out those that shouldn't be there or who prefer not to be there and have a disclaimer upon entering before ever getting to a post.

Ya but it will never get to a good heated debate because everyone will be to afraid of it getting shut down so people will be hard pressed to really show or post thier actuall feelings without it getting to Politically Correct which is no fun in a debate honestly.

Well that just proves that what you are looking for is not a real "debate". Debates use facts not insults, inuendo and mud slinging
