Filling plastic Easter eggs--for teens

I always put candy & money in my DD eggs at home. But at my inlaws we buy misc. stuff such as this year i have bought fishing stuff, soccer balls, gumball machine, water bottles, & other items like that. We mark each prize with a # & we make sure there is an egg with a # to match. So at the end they just get to collect there prize that matches the egg#. We also put money & candy in some of them to.

OP, I saw this and I thought of you. Claires is having a 10 for $10 sale on their website (maybe in stores too). Might find some cute things to fill eggs with.

I have been looking for ideas for teens as well. I have both boys and girls hunting for eggs. It has been easier for me to find some things for the girls, as some have mentioned make up, hair things, etc. It's been harder for the boys. I will put in key chains, bubbles (cuz they Still like them), some candy, and I do plan to put some money though the egg hunt I do is for usually for 12 kids or so, and I am not rich by any means, so there won't be any $20 eggs. I am still looking for more ideas. This is Aunnie Emma's (that's me) 6th annual Easter Egg Hunt and my last (because I am moving from Maine to Tennessee) so I want it to be EPIC!! The ages of my pre-teens and teens are 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15! I have a few little ones but I know what to put in theres!

My DDs are grown now but we did Easter egg hunts when they were young. I filled the eggs and DH hid them. We used to put in goldfish when they were young with chocolate in a few of them.

The girls loved the hunt more than what was in them. The last hunt we had DH decided to use those sticky dots and put eggs on the ceiling and top of the ceiling fans.

My nephews come to my house for Easter and are 5 and 8. I like to do hunts for them now.

I host Easter for the extended family...kids from 15 months to 18 years. And they love to hunt eggs. I trade eggs for "prize tickets" (cut up cardstock). At the end of the day, they trade the "tickets" for a prize. For the teens, it's iTunes or Starbucks, for the little ones, stuffed toys. Makes it easy on me, and they can hunt over and over (the older kids are good about re-hiding the eggs for the little ones). We do confetti eggs as well, but those are for fun and not hunting.
The bonus: I don't have to worry about my standard poodle finding eggs with candy the next day! (She's either in our room or on a leash for Easter--makes it easier to make sure the little kids don't share too much candy with her!).

I find these Easter Egg Hunt threads facinating. I am 38 but don't have children. Wondering when putting candy in eggs stopped being enough? I never got anything but candy in my eggs as a child, lol!

That was good til mine were about 15yo. Then they start working out and watching what they eat. They would actually avoid candy. I hardly ever buy snacks anymore because none of my kids will eat 'empty calories'. I'm probably the worst eater in the house now.

We do all the fun, nice gifts mentioned above, but for the last few years have also thrown in "gag" type items. My kids/nieces laugh so much when opening these.
Basically I go around the house and put in whatever I can find:
paperclips, erasers, toilet seat covers, business card, salt packets, mini post-its, etc...

They get the good stuff (candy & gifts) but also a laugh out of opening the eggs.

OK. So I'll be the first mom to post that I want to stop hiding easter eggs. My kids are 15 and 13. I thought too old for it. It seems I am the minority!!! I think I'll do it again this year with the gag gifts idea. Maybe I will throw in a $1 or $5 for the fun of it. No candy at this house!!! Unless, or course, dh goes shopping. Then there will be tons of candy...lol.

OK. So I'll be the first mom to post that I want to stop hiding easter eggs.

I tried to stop hiding eggs last year. My kids (15 and 17) were horrified. I just put candy and coins and a few dollar bills in there--maybe a small nail polish if I can find one. They aren't really interested in what I'm hiding, they just like the tradition. So I'm still doing it until they lose interest. Maybe next year.

My mom puts dollar bills, candy, and 4 quarters in eggs. That's about it. I'm content with that.

Last year I went to the bank and got 40 one dollar bills. I put those in some of the eggs for my teens.

I'm lucky that they both got 20 of the eggs with those in it. I'd never have heard the end of it if one teen had found more of the eggs with the money in it.

I need to ask them if they still want to do it again this year. It was a pain and I'd rather just give them extra candy and money in their baskets. This will be the last year for my oldest though so I bet he'll want to do the easter egg hunt one more time.

Bumping for more ideas as Easter is approaching. My "kids" are in college and the egg hunt is tradition. I do some candy and some money. Little things are easy for DD but I'm finding DS to be tougher so I loved this idea:

Even our dentist says it is fine to eat candy as long as you brush your teeth when you're done. I'm not saying a ton of candy is healthy, but if the teeth are brushed, it isn't going to cause high dental bills.

Our dentist says the same. Just brush after eating candy. However, he said the worst candy is gummy candy and also sour candy. The sour candy like 'Warheads' and 'Sour Patch Kids' are so acidic they are not far off from battery acid. So they begin eroding enamel quickly. My kids eat plenty of candy and only one of my dd's has ever had a cavity. None of the others

For 16yo DS I put ear buds, $, fishing gear, new batting glove, tokens for the batting cage, golf balls, golf tees, gum, movie tickets from Costco because they are paper and can roll up to fit into an egg.

Who doesn't love a good egg hunt? Heck, I'd do it if someone hid eggs for me. lol! Here's what we've done for our "young adults" egg huntD gets 3 yellow plastic eggs--her favorite color with mix of her favorite candy. DS gets 3 blue plastic eggs with mix of favorite candy. Then they get 3 other eggs with either cash, movie tix, gas cards, fast food cards---whatever I felt like spending-typically $20 per kid. We try to do it outdoors-sometimes tough to do in Wisconsin and they can only find & keep their "color" eggs.

I also give them an Easter basket with 1 chocolate bunny, 1 pkg. of peeps and jelly beans.


We also still color about a dozen eggs and make 1 "yucky" egg dipped in all the dye colors. We hide those too and the finder of the yucky egg gets $5.

I remember the year of our Disney trip when I was a kid(we went over easter break) my parents put money in eggs for me for spending money. I think it totaled 100, and then I had some money I had saved and money my mom had saved for me. It was a great idea that I plan on doing for the twins when they're old enough. They're only 8 months now, so no eggs for them. Just a basket with some stuff they need and some toys.

I've always just put candy, stickers, or a quarter in each egg. If I hid things like itunes gift cards and $20 bills in the eggs, I'm sure my teens would still be interested in hunting eggs! They decided as tweens that they were too old to hunt eggs themselves, but they always enjoy helping me fill and hide the eggs for the little kids. And that is just fine with me.
