Filling plastic Easter eggs--for teens

Guess you haven't paid many children's dental bills then =0

It's not that candy isn't enough. It's more like candy is TOO much. I give some candy, but I'd rather limit the sugar. That's why I'm looking for some little treats that are inexpensive but healthier than candy.

ITA with the less sugar route. We only put like one robin egg or jellybean in each egg...

Every year I help out or run an Easter egg hunt. Honestly, Target is awesome for finding little trinkets and candy. Just take an egg with you and test out things to make sure they fit. Maybe even get a couple of those huge eggs and I think you might be able to fit a pair of cozy socks in those. ;)

For teens I'd go with:

Makeup
some affordable bracelets
hair stuff
Cash ($1's,$5's, and maybe a $10) I wouldn't put anymore than that.

I like the idea that MSSANDRA had about glow in the dark egg hunts

I give both of my girls, 17 and 4, an Easter basket but I don't spend a whole lot on them. My teenager does not really like chocolate all that much so she is getting two plastic eggs in her small sized basket. One egg will have $20 in it and the other one will hold a sterling silver cross necklace. I am rounding out her basket with 3 packs of sugarless gum, tic tacs and one cookies-and-cream chocolate Easter bunny because she does like that flavor.

just candy in eggs at our house...but you have to find your well-hidden:thumbsup2 basket before you can collect eggs. Basket is where we put itunes card, big chocolate bunny, etc.

We hide the baskets here too. I've always done that, even when they were little. My kids are 13 and almost 15 so we don't do an egg hunt anymore. The baskets have some plastics eggs with candy in them. Then I fill the rest of the basket with a small chocolate bunny and small gifts similar to what I put in the Christmas stockings.

My DD still likes to do EE hunts and she's almost 15. Of course, she gets candy, $20 bills and a couple $50 bills in her eggs. If I had that kind of EE hunt, I'd still want one, too.

Sounds AWESOME!!! Can I come to your house and hunt for eggs???

I know I am in the minority, but I have never seen a connection between dental bills and candy. We have always gone overboard with candy on Holidays and our kids dont have cavities. We do stay away from the chewy/gummy candy that stick to the teeth, but do indulge in a huge variety of chocolate candy.

I do agree it is not healthy, just never had it cause cavities.

We do two egg hunts, a candy one and a money one. My kids are 18 and 16 and still get a kick out of both!

Happy Easter to everybody!!!

Flavored Chapstick (or -- I have a DS who plays sax - he prefers a product called Chopsavers -- like Chapstick but better); if you have a Keurig that your teen uses, some gourmet coffee cups; a tiny thumb drive; a Restaurant.com code for a place they like (use the discount code and it could cost you $2 for a $25 certificate).

Do they drive? Our local carwash still uses coins. Instead of regular US coins, you would put carwash coins in the eggs. I do this for DH's stocking at Christmas. He doesn't feel like it's "his money" when he has the coins to use.

For the past 4-5 years we have been buying the mega-pack of plain legos (not hte ones with specific building sets) and putting 1-3 peices of legos into each egg. Last year we put Disney Pins in, with the understanding that each kid would split them evenly. We also do change.

My youngest son just started guitar lessons so we will put some picks in. They both play Lacrosse, so I will try to come up with something Lacrosse related. I will do a favorite candy, but only if it is indivudually wrapped.'

My kids also love the new Star Wars Pods, so I bought a pack to split into eggs.

Nerf bullets fit. I don't think boys are ever too old for Legos or Nerf!!

Candy. I also get 25.00 in ones and some of the eggs get a one dollar bill.

I just started doing that last year. My kids were very excited when they realized there was money in some eggs!

I am getting tired of hiding eggs and am thinking of just putting a 10.00 bill in addition to candy in each basket and calling it done. LOL

Some ideas that come to me for me:

- arcade tokens
- movie tickets
- little craft kits (like friendship bracelets, etc.)
- hair accessories
- travel sizes of "nicer" toiletries than they usually have
- tickets to minor league sports games
- extra charging cords for electronics and phones (my kids are always misplacing those things!)
- you might want to put in some confetti eggs to take up space and do something a little different. Even older kids have fun w/ these
- beach or pool tags

For older kids it might be fun to have them hide eggs for each other. Assign each kid an egg color or egg style and have their siblings hide them. Each kid hides eggs for the other kids. Then turn them loose and see who finds their eggs first. You might have to set some rules about where they can hide them since the competive spirit may lead to buried eggs, eggs out of reach, etc.

You could also do a timed, one kid goes at a time race if you are worried about them finding their own eggs in the process of hiding their siblings eggs.

Candy
$1 bills
chapstick/lip gloss
mini nail polish
ear buds
funky shoelaces
funky socks (my dd wears mismatched ones so I'd just roll one up in each egg)

I did this last year, Rue 21 had a big pack of 20 socks all different so I stuck one sock in each egg. My girls got a huge kick out of it!

I do the mini make up, candy, silly bands, rubber bracelets, candy, ear phones. They are 17 and 13 and still love it. I do around 150 eggs just for them!

I asked my 16yo son what he would want in eggs. He said, "money." He said a dollar in most eggs and a five or two would make him very happy.

I fill with candy and change. They each have 3 eggs with their names on them and those get the dollars.

OP, I saw this and I thought of you. Claires is having a 10 for $10 sale on their website (maybe in stores too). Might find some cute things to fill eggs with.

I typically do an Easter gift that is pretty small (this year both kids want basketballs) and then just do candy in the eggs. I would worry that the little cheap trinkets put in the eggs would just get thrown away anyway.

Even our dentist says it is fine to eat candy as long as you brush your teeth when you're done. I'm not saying a ton of candy is healthy, but if the teeth are brushed, it isn't going to cause high dental bills.
