As to this 19 year old man calling a cab on his own...
If this legal adult had a gash bad enough to need stitches, there's no telling how much blood-loss there was. He could conceivably have been in shock from different aspects of the injury - maybe he faints at the sight of blood, maybe he lost a pint, etc.) The CMs (First-Aid RNs?/Paramedics?) were not present when the guest was injured, did they have all the necessary information?
It's interesting that transport stops at 6pm. Do all on-property injuries stop then?

agnes!

I think part of the issue we see today is that companies (Disney and others) don't want to help because of the risk. Well then helped, it must have been their fault. We must suffer because of the small minority of people that are sue happy.

I've worked for three large companies who own malls and we ALWAYS have helped people whether it be the malls fault or not. It's the right thing to do, plus you want to maintain a good relationship with the public.

I agree that sometimes the fear of being sued is so great that people are afraid to go the extra step in rendering aid. The Good Samaritan law was passed so that medical personnel could offer aid as a passerby without fear of being sued. This being said I don't think getting this young man transportation was an admission of anything and just the right thing to do. I stay onsite and have no transportation available to me. I am extremely allergic to bees and will have my epi pen with me but if stung I still need medical attention. I would hope that if stung Disney would be more helpful than pointing me to the exit.

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but in the first post the OP stated that "We" had a problem. Does that mean she was in the park with her son? Or was he alone? If the family was with him, then I don't think Disney did anything wrong. Another adult could have just as easily called a cab. But if he was alone, then yes they should have helped him out of the park and on his way.

Either way the right thing to do would have been to get the family back to the resort and or the medical facility, not have to rely on the whole walk through the park, get on a bus walk back to the room and then get stitches. So IMO the CMs dropped the ball big time with this. An injured person with family or not should not have been expected to walk from world showcase to the buses and to fend for their own medical treatment while being far away from home. I would never expect a guest in my home to go through that. They were guests of Disney and should have the same compassion.

I've read all these posts and my thoughts are: If these were guests staying off property, how far is Disney supposed to transport you to home? If I need medical treatment for anything, I'd have called Reedy Creek Fire and had them make the call. I know CM's have a credo to follow and not everyone on these boards know what rules they are to follow no matter what human nature decides, they have what they can do and say and its not our call to criticize it. They may have been following their rules and what they done was proper in this case but if it were me, I'd have gotten myself treatment, if additional care was needed, I'd have called Reedy Creek Fire or transported myself to a care clinic. I don't feel Disney dropped the ball, they can not respond to every malady and haul guest to clinics and what not for a guest mistake. Sorry for his pain but thats how I feel.

I have this same question.

In any event, I hope that the OP's DS is A-OK.

when i fell and broke my foot I had my then husband (wont use dh lol) ,my son and my best friend and her family with me...not only did they take very good care of me they had a van take them all back to our resort...

AHHH, I feel so warm and fuzzy. I sense a windfall for my people.

Best to all

1. What injury did your son incur, because transportation was not available? What were the damages to your son?
2. If walking to the treatment center DID in deed cause him injury, how long was the recovery?
Here's a question for you..and Disney..Do you feel Disney made a reasonable attempt to assist your son?

Basically, slips and falls are big money, and no one wants to see anyone get hurt. Disney may have liability on a slip or fall..possibly..

I dont know if they are obligated to transport. Especially if there is a cut- off time. That would be a pretty clear indication that they are not.

Had you called 911, and said we're at Epcot, my son is not movable, and we need to get him emergency help, he may have gotten picked up, and taken to a nearby hospital to receive the stitches..

Without having all the details, its hard to say.
Any way you slice it, a bummer part of your Disney experience..

To the OP - I would have been mad as HE**!!! Just because your son is 19 has absolutely NO bearing on the fact that he deserved the respect and immediate attention of a medical provider. Let me give you an example. Two weeks ago tomorrow, my 16 year old son, who looks like a 30 year old man, was in a basketball tournament and 30 seconds into the game, twisted the wrong way and dislocated his knee. After screaming in pain for a few seconds we were surprised he did not "shake it off" and when the team mother who happens to be a nurse, screamed out "someone get an ambulance", we had no idea how bad it was until we saw up close that his knee was literally on the other side of his leg. The trainers stayed with us and calmed him because they were afraid that he would go into shock. So yes, I am MAD for you about how your son was treated, and even IF you had been there as a responsible parent, that does NOT matter, he deserved to be treated better, I hope you get the response you deserve.

I agree with that..Even if they weren't in the position to provide the transport, they really could have shown him how to get it..I cut my hand at a job on my first day of a job..out of pride, I declined a ride, when I didnt have one.well, I nearly passed out on the walk home..and i did need stitches..if id have passed out, i could have probably sued the place I work, because they just let me walk out the door..Good managers would have made sure my but was in an approved ambulance before I was out of sight. They would do the same for an employee as a guest.
So..the big money question is:

If it had been Mickey Mouse who slipped and fell, hitting his chin ( a borderline head injury) would they have him walk to the front of the park and wait for a cab? Hardly. Thats the injustice..

wow....after reading just the first few posts I am amazed at how cruel some people can be. I mean what happened to kindness and compassion to strangers. I see nothing wrong with calling to complain about a situation where you felt your son was mistreated. If someone fell on my driveway due to rain even if it was not my fault, I would still help them.

Remember, treat others how you wish to be treated. Sorry to ramble but some of these posts are just plain mean.:flower3:

I can't speak for the OP, but as for myself, I think it would be a reasonable courtesy for Disney to offer...

  • to make phone calls... to a family member, or a for cab, etc.
  • to help the injured through the park, if needed, to reach transportation back to the resort, or to the parking lot or a pick-up zone.
  • to have a list of local hospitals or clinics, driving times and directions.

The OP asked for addresses that he could use to write someone to discuss the situation. Since that has been answered and the discussion is not staying friendly and welcoming this thread has outlived it's usefullness.

bradisgoofy, I hope you get the answers you need from Disney.:goodvibes
