Figment

Well, it was more like meeting Dreamfinder, and he had a Figment puppet with him. I was four so I don't remember that much about it, but I do remember my little mind being blown when we left the Imagination pavilion and they were outside visiting with guests.

To show you what I mean, here's a picture of them with Richard Nixon:

I think there would be a draw for that still today for all of us older timers ;)

Oh my, I am going to have to show my DD10 that hat. She is in love with Figment and loves wearing those types of hats in the winter. I am sure she will get one on our October trip :goodvibes.

Correct me if I am mistaken but wasn't Figment suppose to be the mascot for Epcot when the park first opened? Maybe not the WS mascot but certainly the FW side. I just can't grasp the fact that Disney would rather sell a stuffed bear with extra clothing (see him all over WDW and now in the Disney Stores) rather then a symbol of what Epcot once was, then again maybe he is outdated and Duffy Bear is the new Figment :confused3.

I bought that Figment hat on our last trip! I love it!

I'm a sucker for anything Figment. I still have my original Figment beach towel from when the park first opened (although it's pretty worn out & not in use anymore). I had a really great figment mug too, but my brother stole it from me years ago.

Found these pictures while looking through some really old ones from my parent's house:

I was SOOOO tempted by that hat! I have a large head, though, and it was a little snug. Probably perfect for your daughter! I've reas the same thing about Figment being the park mascot.

Those pictures are great, thanks for sharing. Just in case anyone doesn't know this, but the ship from the original Figment is hung up on the ceiling at MouseGears.

I would love to see Figment come back full force! He's just too cute and a great character. Maybe we should all start writing in Disney and demand him back to his former glory :-)

Anyone else want to bring Figment back more mainstream into Epcot park? I never got to ride the original attraction Figment was on but heard it was awesome.

I rarely see Figment stuff nowadays on my trips. :(

I totally agree!:thumbsup2 Big Figment fans in our family, even this old ex deep water sailor!

What's wrong with the new ride? I don't remember the old one at all (last time I went on it must have been in like 1985), but I know I loved Figment and bought a plush of him that I think I still have at my parents' house. I've got an August trip coming up and I've been talking to my kids about Figment and they're excited to see him... is the new attraction just that bad?

This was the cover of a magazine:

Of that picture brings back so many memories ;). My earliest memory of disney is seeing figment and the guy (his name escapes me right now) and figment kept taking my hat ;)

I'd like to see the entire pavilion restored to its former glory. I would give anything to experience the upstairs floor again. I loved it.

We did the Epcot "Undiscovered Future World" behind-the-scenes tour about 8 years ago, and on the tour we were able to see the upstairs floor.

On a related note, my 9yo complains every time we are in the store because they don't have Figment shirts in kid sizes. At one point, they even had Captain EO shirts for kids, but no Figment.

:hyper: That's awesome!!!

I wonder if recent tours still go up there. That would be amazing!
I may have to look into this tour whether they still go there or not. :woohoo:

Years ago when we went as a family, Journey into Imagination was one of our favorites. Like some others, the original was far better than anything they've come up with since.
We loved Figment and Dreamfinder and the ride was great. It was fun, kept the kids amused and interested, and the whole Kodak pavilion was better than it is now. Dreamworks was so neat.
We went back when they first changed it and hated it. Seriously, I can't say that about too many things at Disney, but that second version was awful. The one now isn't much better. For years we had all kinds of Figment souveniers -- shirts, stuffed toys, lots of goodies from the gift shop.
If you ever get a chance, look up the original ride on the internet. I know there are some videos.
If you never saw the original, you don't know what you missed. I'd be glad even now to see it come back. Not sure why it was changed to begin with. Why mess with something that works???
:confused3

Sometimes you can find Figment on one of the Epcot logo t-shirts. It's a bit since I've seen that shirt, but it something to keep in mind. The lack of kids clothing with Figment seems to indicate to me that the target audience for Figment is adults, probably those that remember him from their childhood. Still, I'm always smile when I see a little kid wandering around WDW holding a Figment stuffy. :goodvibes

The Allears.net reviews through 2011 (maybe on in 2012) mention see the 3D glasses being cleaned and visiting the Imagination pavilion, but the most recent ones don't mention it. Hopefully it's still part of the tour.
