Listen it's not a "tough guy routine" it's being a normal person helping a old man about to get beat up by a drunk and disorderly guest... Secondly it does not matter what the guy is, mall cop, rentacop, Mickey mouse security... He is the "authority" in that park at that moment. So you listen to him. As far as the pepper spray it was definitely expired, so there for to avoid getting punched AGAIN he had to continue the pepper spray... Are you saying you would just let the guy come after you some more?
I guess it's just me being a fireman that I'm not AFRAID to step in to help ANYONE that needs it
I think you are reading too much into it. I have no problem with the pepper spray or the others who came to assist. That is what had to be done in the situation. I think that perhaps the pepper spray was employed a tad too long...but i can't say that the guy didn't completely deserve it.
It's the whole disney security thing...what a complete joke. Panama there didn't look like he could subdue my 2 year old daughter (however...to be fair..she is cunning and agile with cat-like reflexes).
It's all a joke...and when they try to act like Mall Cop is when things that really cause injury happen. Because they are basically no different than the guy that sells you coke or loads you on Space Mountain. Disney views all staff as interchangeable and must be got for bottom dollar. This is NOT a stretch...they have been boiler plating the staff and reducing compensation for about 20 years. "security" is no different...as i know from my tour at the magical world.
But back to some of the statements...submission? guns? that's just nuts. Disney security has been involved in more than a few incidents where they went all lethal weapon and caused serious injuries or deaths. They have been documented in some books as well...because they are quietly buried in the local papers.
One of the more famous ones was in WDW about 20 years ago, when a gung-ho chased two local teenagers from the contemporary at night and proceeded to engage in a high speed chase down world drive in the disney van...leading to an accident that killed one of the two "suspects".
It's a show...maybe a necessary one...but still a show. I don't want anyone in the cutesy mickey policeman outfits taking any chances...to be honest. Call the sheriff and just try to stay out of it. They are poorly trained, and poorly equipped...and when push came to shove...it showed.
Thankfully, incidents of violence at disney properties is low...probably because its too expensive for those that would engage in most cases (don't frown...this is disney and economics are always an issue...whether we can acknowledge it in a civil manner or not). So I don't worry about safety. As demonstrated in the video...the citizens arrest would take care of most issues with no problems...and i guarantee that i would jump right in.
But the "bag checks" that have no hope of detecting anything (as obvious if you watch what goes on for about 4 seconds as guys in mickey gloves BS with everyone as the strollers roll through) and policeman hats scare me...i don't think they would be doing either their employees or their customers a service by encouraging Goofy Rambos (pun intended)
