And has everybody taught their kids?:teeth:

You know the song, "50 Nifty United States from 13 original colonies...and it goes on to sing the states in alphabetical order. I learned it when I was young and have taught DD and many other kids . It seemed like the nerdiest thing ever when they taught it to us. But I'll never forget all the states!

Fifty Nifty United States

Fifty Nifty United States from thirteen original colonies
Fifty Nifty stars on the flag that billows so beautifully in the breeze
Each individual state contributes a quality that is great
Each individual state deserves a bow, let's salute them now!

Thanks! I make the guys memorize a lot, so it is nice to have some music!

It was required choral music for all who were in 5th grade choir back in my middle school days!! The last time we were in WDW with DSIL, we got the urge to sing it to ourselves while waiting for a Hall of Presidents showing!!

Way to go Fifty Nifty United States!

So I bet you sang, "Minnesota is the best!"

We sang, "Pennsylvania is the best"!

I remember that song!

We sang it in our sixth grade's Memorial Day play.

For years, I tried to keep in memory so I'd have a way to list all of the 50 states. Of course, the words faded through the years.

And I forgot about the "New Jersey is the best" part.

Thanks for posting this, Aunt Polly. It brings back quite a few memories. :)

The Voices of Liberty have a chart of this tune that they break out from time to time. Next time you're in Epcot, stop in at the American Adventure rotunda and see if they're doing it that day. :)

My cousins learned this in kindergarten and sang it ad nauseum! (They are about to be in 3rd grade.) It was part of their kindergarten graduation. Nothing like 100+ kindergarteners bellowing this one out! :D

My DD also sang this in 5th grade - they had a little play and she ws dressed as a train conductor. :)

We sang this in Middle School Choir many moons ago for some kind of Colonial program that we had. But I still remember it.

I remember learning this song when I was in either 4th or 5th grade. The states in alphabetical order have always stuck in my head since then. When my oldest dd learned it in 4th grade, she was surprised when I started singing the states along with her. My other dd didn't learn it in elementary school - they changed music teachers right before the time the old teacher usually taught it. Good, good song!

I learned it the summer of 1975 and can still recite the names of the states in alphabetical order.

Me, too! We sang this in choir in 5th grade and I can still recite the states at the ripe old age of 41 (of course, I have to sing them, I can't just say them) Oh, and Michigan is the best!;)

Idaho is the best ;)

LOL - Oh, c'mon guys! It doesn't even sound right if the state doesn't have 4 syllables!!!!

You too, Amy -- Michigan just doesn't sound like the right word!!!!

Everybody knows it's "Penn - syl - van -ia is the best!"
