They can only protest in the tournament under certain guidelines without FIFA sanctioning the team. The pride version of the crest has more global meaning than most non soccer fans realize. They can also wear the rainbow armband as well. Usually after a player scores, they protest for a just cause by writing a message on their undershirt that they show off to the media. The biggest thing that would have made more of a difference would have been to completely boycott the tournament but none of the rich countries did it because of sponsorship backlash.

I won’t be watching much of the games but I will be paying attention to what protests occur and how Qatar reacts.

Qatar claims lgbtq+ guests will be treated with respect throughout the tournament. Media from every country is covering the event so we will see what happens. USA has a military base there so I doubt they will mess with any American guests.
