FF Dress Code

Hi everyone,
We really would like to go to FF next trip since we haven't been there for dinner in 15 years!
I read the dress code online that Disney suggests for FF.

We would be coming from HS with no time to change- would it be unacceptable to go there in t-shirts and shorts, capris, sneakers, etc. Would we feel totally out of place?
I am thinking probably so but then I think this is Disney so I'm not sure.
Our kids will be with us but they will be 11 and 13 this trip.

In park signatures, as far as I am concerned, are fair game. Casual park clothes all the way

Out of park signature dining tends to be a little more upscale. Often women are in dresses and heels, pretty hair, makeup. Men in suits or nicer attire. You will see very casual too, but usually not T-shirt level at ff. You are welcome to do so, but do be prepared to be one of the most casually dressed

Flying Fish has a fairly upscale feel to it, in my opinion. I don’t know that I’d feel comfortable arriving straight from the park. That said, I don’t know how much they enforce the dress code other than the most “egregious” violations like ball caps or tank tops on men. It is a fantastic restaurant and well worth visiting. Maybe you could pack some extra shirts and other stuff that would allow you to freshen up before dinner without returning to the resort? There are several reviews on YouTube - those may give you a better sense of the atmosphere. I hope you are able to visit. It’s one of our favorite spots.

I would dress nicer than normal park clothes since it's really a resort signature (Boardwalk). Maybe wear a sundress to park? Pack a park bag with nicer shirts for son/husband?

I agree with PP’s. FF is more upscale than T Sirts, Shorts and Sneakers. You will not be turned away, but
I agree with at least packing a change of clothes and freshening up.
And what does ...”but they will be 13 and 11” mean? Our DS wears dress shorts, collared shirt and good sandals to Signature dinners.

Stay away from the not permitted list and you are fine. No reason to dress up unless thats what you want to do.

My husband and I ate at Flying Fish last summer. While we came from our resort, we were headed to Hollywood Studios right after. We weren't going back to change before we went to the park. My husband went in shorts and a t-shirt. I think I was wearing shorts. Maybe a skort. It was mid July when we were there. We did not dress up. I don't dress up. Especially if we are going to or coming from a park. And for me, I don't like carrying a bag anyway, which I have stopped doing, so I'm not taking extra clothes to change into. If you want to dress up, go for it. But don't feel like you have to. You will have a fabulous dinner no matter what you wear.

It would likely not be unacceptable, but it's totally subjective as to whether you would feel out of place. We have been to Flying Fish many times, and people do tend to dress a little more nicely than in the parks, but as others have noted, you will see a little bit of everything in terms of dress. If this thread goes on long enough, someone will come along to tell you that as long as there is some sort of fabric covering your nether parts, you are good to go at Disney. (Apologies to the poster who came up with that line - don't remember who you are.)

I would suggest at least shorts and a polo shirt and Capri and a cute top.

Shirts with collars are recommended but from what I have seen others wear the only thing they will turn away is people in swim suits and flip flops (although I have never seen anyone bad enough to try).

I think you will be okay, but how will you feel? FF is a bit more dressy than the park signatures. I would probably wear capris to the park that day, or wear a sundress.

You are going to see a range of dress in there though I agree with the others that you will see more dresses, dress slacks/shorts, collared shirts, etc. What you have described is completely within the dress code though, so if that's what you are wearing, I wouldn't worry about it.

Here’s the thing. You know you. I think that people make a huge deal out of what is acceptable in Disney restaurants, but I cannot understand why. Unless someone traipses I’m wearing a filthy wife beater with torn tightie whities perking our of his Bermuda shorts( yes my daughter is still blind from that sight at her fil’s pirate themed wedding) no one will even notice attire. I think that if you are comfortable you are fine.

Several years ago dh and I took a ride up north, and stopped at Yankee Candle. We decided to eat but Chandlers was not open, so they said cons back later. We were casual, I mean he had in his Garage Guy tee shirt! Okay, so we continued our ride and returned later that evening....to a dark candlelit restaurant. Oh no! The hostess pishtushed our concerns, escorted us to our table and we had a lovely meal. Maybe someone in that restaurant thought we were underdressed, but the hostess had assured us that if we were enough to disturb diners they had bigger problems.

We have eaten at FF many times. Most of the time, I have worn khakis and a polo shirt and never felt over or under dressed.
You will see some dressed more formally and some less.

I have been wanting to go here for a while now to get the Under the Sea dessert. It's now off the menu and I have an ADR in Feb. So disappointed.

I am hoping its cool enough in Feb that I can wear capris and feel like I fit in with the dressier folks. But if I wear shorts, then it sounds like it wont be a problem

You will be fine. If you look around you will see people in all manner of dress.

We've eaten there 4-5 times in the last 20 odd months. I tend to wear a t-shirt dress and I feel very much comfortable there. The man normally wears khaki shorts and a Tommy Bahama type of shirt. The kids wear similar attire.
This sums up our warm weather "vacation uniforms" and takes us into any restaurant, both in and out of parks as well as rides. Should I want to dress the outfit up a bit some statement jewelry works well and fits in my wristlet purse. Probably the only restaurant at WDW I'd put more effort into my attire would be V+A.
