Hi everyone! I am a regular DISer, but I am usually on the CB. I really don't venture over here, but now I am looking forward to joining the WISH community! My junior prom (high school) is coming up in a little over 4 weeks. I have my dress, but I NEED to lose some weight if I want to fit in it (I don't see myself as overweight or fat, in fact this year is probably the best I have ever felt about my looks ever!). My mom insisted that the dress was flattering and she fell in love with it, which is why I got that one and not the other one that I was much more comfortable in and LOVED (I like this one, just don't LOVE it), but that’s a whole other story. My parents bought me a treadmill and I started on a diet this weekend. I really don't have a certain plan. I am just cutting out all my "fattening junk" that I love so much. You know, the Oreos that I have every day after school (Double Stuffed of course!) and my Ben & Jerry's ice cream (which is so hard because I work there and I have 2 of my favorite kinds in the freezer right now, but I do allow myself 1 bite a day as a "reward" for being good all day LOL.) and all that other stuff. I replaced it with marshmallows (I can have 3 for less calories than 1 of my beloved Oreos!) and Jello (10 calories!) when I have a sweet tooth or animal crackers and apples when I just want something. I do the treadmill every day after school for half an hour, which gets me to at least 2.25 miles (I run about half of it), but before that, I take my dog for a little walk which is probably about another 1/4 of a mile. I have a few questions for you guys as this is the longest I have ever been on a diet (I did weight watchers for about 3 days a few years ago, but gave up as it was too much work) and the only time so far in my life that I have ever really NEEDED to lose weight.

What do you do for inspiration/motivation to keep going? I would love to just have that one cookie or some of my Dublin Mudslide ice cream, but I know that as soon as I do, I will feel like "Hey, I already totally screwed up my diet today, I may as well eat those 3 Oreos! Oh, and give me some more of that ice cream while your at it!" I need a little push some days to get me on the treadmill or to be able to say no to those chocolate chip cookies.
Do you have any advice or anything for me? Should I change anything about what I am doing or do you think this is good?

TIA!!

simba :welcome: to WISH!! oh i soooo see myself in you and then my heart breaks for such a youthful spunky girl to waste time and thought on dieting!!

over the years i have found it really is about making good choices the majority of your days, exercising b/c you enjoy the way you feel when you are done and the sense of accomplishment for finishing, and then allowing yourself to enjoy life from time and time and not beating yourself up for it.

ok -- you are in the mode to loss -- is there a "Lose 5 for April" thread started yet? why not join in that group. i find our challenges really do motivate me b/c i'm chatting with others who are undertstanding my struggles and motivating me at the same time. it pumps me up to see my WISH buddies succeed and gives me the gusto that I too can. and YOU can too! it's fun to have a group to share your small steps towards the overall goal, you know celebrate that 1.5 pound loss this week b/c you know with 3 weeks like that you'll be down 5 pounds!

lastly -- try not to overwhelm yourself with "have to do this" and "can not eat this" it's very easy to burnout and then binge or give up! i know if you continue to cut junk food out of your everyday snacking (and honestly you'll lose the taste for it in time!) and continue some exercising you will reap GREAT rewards and strut your stuff in "Hollywood" :teeth:

Thanks for the encouragement and advice ohMom! I will definitly look for the April challenge thread.
