Few questions based on cancelling a reservation

With the offices being closed to Monday I don't want to spend a sleepless night thinking about our scenario.

We have a December 11th-15th reservation that we might need to cancel.
Soooooooooo.
1. Do I need to use these points in the same calendar year or can I transfer them to the next year?
2. If I can transfer, since I had already transferred our 9 remaining points will I be able to transfer a second time and transfer the 44 points as well (We have an August use year so I would still under my 50% date)?

First off, let's clarify some terminology. You used the word transfer in your question but what you actually would be doing here is banking the points. Transferring refers to moving points from one member's account to another member's account, or between two master contracts owned by one member. What you want to do is bank points from one Use Year to the next Use Year within your own account.

1. If you cancel a reservation 31 days or more from check-in, the points are returned to your account. Since you have an Aug UY, the points used for this reservation were one of the following: 2006 points, banked 2005 points or borrowed 2007 points. If they were 2006 points then they return to your 2006 UY and are bankable subject to banking deadlines. You are still in your 100% banking window (until Jan 31, 2007) so you can bank the points into your 2007 UY. If the points used for the reservation were either banked from your 2005 UY or borrowed from your 2007 UY, then they must remain in your 2006 UY and can be used for trips from now until Jul 31, 2007.

If you cancel 30 days or less from check-in, the points go into the Holding account and cannot be banked. They can only be used for reservations made within 60 days of check-in and will expire Jul 31, 2007.

2. You are still in your 100% banking window so you can bank all of your 2006 Use year points between now and Jan 31, 2007. And you don't have to bank all of the points at the same time. Banking is cumulative so once you are in your 50% banking window, any points already banked this UY count towards that 50%.

I will be able to sleep tonight and thank you for seeing through my mistake of saying transfer instead of bank. They were 2006 UY points so you will allow me to sleep well tonight.

I'm sorry to hear you might have to cancel your trip. If you do have to cancel, just be sure you do it at least 31 days prior to check-in. Otherwise your points go into the Holding Account and cannot be banked, regardless of your banking deadlines.
