I have been watching what I eat and working out (weights, walking, etc.) for 4 weeks. Monday started week 5.

I am not weighing myself, because I don't have any scales. I am measuring myself. The measurements show I have lost 1 inch every place except my legs.

My clothes fit different and I even seem to be getting to big.

I am discouraged, because since this is week 5 I felt there should have been a bigger difference.

Is 1 inch in 4 weeks good? Am I just expecting to much to soon?

I am in your shoes girl! I have decided to train for the 2012 Princess Marathon! This goal is very motivating to me, and just what I needed to get in grear. I have quit a bit of weight to lose. I am working out very hard, at least 8 hours a week of high intensity cardio. I am also following weight watchers perfectly. I have only lost about 3 pounds this month, and one inch around my waist, none around my legs.

It is very discouraging!!! My husbands reasoning is that I am gaining muscle. He says that is good, because the muscle will boast my metabolism and help to burn more fat. I sure hope he is right!

Please do not give up!!! The exercises you are doing, walking and weights, will build muscle in your legs. I bet that is what is happening to you too! Give a while longer, I bet you will see results!

I understand completely! I have been running since mid-October and following weight watchers since then also. I have lost 25 lbs but my thighs still look massive. I am not measuring but based on the way my pants fit, my legs are not losing. I am going shopping for new jeans next week but I am seriously worried that while my waist size has gone down, my thighs are still the same size as before and I am going to have a difficult time finding jeans that fit. Ah well, I guess I will find out when I go try them on.

Sorry I can't help you out more, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Good luck with your weight loss journey!

I read somewhere that a lot of people gain weight/fat from the legs up and lose weight/fat from the face down. Maybe that's true for you. You may just not be noticing the changes if they are more in your upper body to begin with. I'm in the same place you are and I'm noticing that my face looks a bit thinner (and my chest a little smaller :scared1:) but my pants aren't a bit more loose than when I started 4 weeks ago. Congrats on the inches gone. I think that's an excellent start! I haven't been measuring, but should.

Most importantly I'm starting to feel stronger so I know I'm in better shape than I was when I started. I'm sure you are too! Let's hang in there!

Hang in there!:cheer2: Unfortunately getting in shape is often a slow, frustrating process. That's why so many give up and quit after the first few weeks when they're not making the progress they expected.

You're doing fine, 1 inch isn't bad progress at all. :thumbsup2 In addition to measuring, I would suggest taking pictures of yourself every 1-2 weeks. ( I know that might sound like torture, but bear with me here. I got this tip from a personal trainer. :) )That way you can SEE subtle differences as you lose fat and gain muscle that might not be noticable in your how clothes fit or how many inches you are or aren't losing.

Good luck and keep up the good work!:thumbsup2

I am also trying to lose weight, but when I gain weight, the first place it goes is to my legs, so I am guessing it will be the last place I will lose it.

Don't give up!

I love the photo idea! Althought, I would HATE for anyone but me to see them, it is a great way to track progress, sans the scale.

I want to thank everybody.

I also want to say I am so proud of myself right now.

I was able to keep with my exercise and sort of kept my calories down while having a nightmare time.

My dh was rushed to the er (he is fine now) and I was going in next to no sleep for days. I was constanly on the go, but still did my best to keep with my program.

I am still tired from not getting enough sleep, but it is getting better.
