Ok with it being berry season and Peach season I make cobblers often with the over ripe fruits. I share this with my dad he just loves this. And it's so simple i gotten the recipe off cooks.com and tweaked it to make it work for what ever fruit i want to use.

This is also doubled, half it if you want 1 - 2qt I make double batches. One for dad one for me.
1 c. butter
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. milk
2(16 oz.) pkg. frozen fruit, thawed(I use fresh so need more sugar or less depending on ripeness. )
4 cups of fresh fruit really any kind you like experiment.
Melt butter in a 2- 2 quart casserole. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk in a small mixing bowl, mix well. Pour mixture over melted butter, do not stir. Spoon blackberries over batter; do not stir. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown.

If i use Peaches I add Nutmeg just 1/4 gives it great flavor. Blackberries i just leave them as they are. Raspberry (giggle if you want but try it) i throw in just 3 or 4 sprigs of rosemary.
Strawberries i add more or less on sugar you have to try the strawberries first.
Blueberries I use allspice or Cinnamon depends if my oldest boy is helping he doesn't like Cinnamon.
Apples and Cinnamon work great so does pears. Also Pineapple has to be canned not fresh and i find doles works better then generic.

I don't post my food costs normally because its just me. But I did this last night and I thought it was a good deal and I want to be in the club :goodvibes

Bucket of spaghetti

2 pounds of zuchinni ($2),
Green bell peper the size of a softball (50 cents)
A ton of dried mushrooms from the asian market ($1)
A whole bag of celery ($1)
5 jars of Ragu, 3 red pepper, 2 organic veggie ($5 on sale)
A half jar of red bell peppers (from dollar tree, they are yummy- 50cents)
2 cloves of garlic (50 cents)
3 pounds of reduced ground sirloin 95% lean ($6 I've never bought this before, it was really good I wish I hadn't put it in sauce)

I also made a huge bag of rice noodles ($2) and 1.5 pounds of white rice (75 cents).

Total - $19.25

It made 12 quart size bags of meals $ $1.60 per meal and they are huge meals and some are bigger than others and might be 2 meals per bag. I've been packing my breakfast, lunch, snack and drinks to take to work and I've gone from $10 a day (lunch and snack eeck) to pretty much nothing.

I've got my weekday budget down to:
Breakfast
PJ sandwich (PB, 10 cents I looked it up lol, bread, 2 slices iron kids from outlet, 10 cents - less when I make bread but I've been lazy)
Banana (20 cents, I pick out smaller ones)

Lunch
A premade bag of something that I heat up. I've made lots of things and most is less expensive than the spaghetti so let's say $1.60

Snack
Another banana..I really like bananas :goodvibes (.20)

Dinner - I normally cook noodle type stuff, the norm for me is:
1/3 pound of ground turkey or chicken, I get those all the time for $1-1.50 a pound. Sometimes I grind my own pork & beef from roasts that I get on sale. (.50)
1/3 pound of stir fry/veggie medley (.33)
1/2 pack of ramen noodles with a pinch of seasoning (.05)

So 3.08-ish. I drink free coffee at work and I drink a lot of ice water now. I am lactose intolerant so you won't see a lot of dairy in my food (I take a supplement). I am also allergic to greens so you won't see lettuce near my food. :flower3:

I read a recipe some where on this post and I can't find it again. The recipe I am looking for has browns in it and I think it was cooked in the slow cooker. If some one out there can help me I would appreciate it. I glanced at it and thought my family would like it and I forgot to copy it and know I can't find it. What helps me keep my food bill down is buying on sale and angel food ministries. Angel food ministries has been a God sent. I have never sat down to figure how much we spend on one days worth of food.

I don't know what recipe your talking about but your right Angel food Ministries have been a god sent to me as well !

Yes, but won't you have a lot of leftover chicken? That's a free meal on another day.

I think it also depends on the age of your childern . My kids can not eat a whole corn on the cob . So yes even if my and DH can my 3 kids can not so that cut cost for me . Also a whole chicken would feed us atleast 2 meals some times 2 meals and a lunch .

Unless it is a larger Tyson Roasting chicken, my family will eat 2 chickens at one meal. Sometimes I get enough leftover that I can make a soup for the next day, but not always -- and that is with one kid who is a vegetarian.

Corn on the cob is about 15 to 20cents an ear here this time of year. I'm not going to bother trying to keep them from eating a whole one if they want, heck they can have 2.
