Yeah, but that's only for one person. The kids are eating for free. I think alot of people would like to see where the kids are not eating for free for a better reference point for those of us who don't get free meals.
I would really like to find a way to cut down on my food budget.
I believe she was only buying for one person, that's the point. When kids eat free, and she only has one adult to feed, it's not that bad of a deal. It's a good time to go out to eat.
As for cutting down the budget.. some approaches I took were:
~99% of our meals are vegetarian,
~No snack foods in our house, no chips, soda, cookies, ect.
~no prepackaged convience foods. I make almost everything from scratch.
~plan a menu in advance, with a corresponding shopping list, then stick to the list.
~buy only seasonal fruits and veggies
~plant a garden, I grow onions, peppers, tomatoes, and strawberries, all in flower pots.
~read all of the sale flyers, and plan your menus based on that weeks sales
Using these methods, I spend about $45-50 a week for my family of five. This includes household items, paper products, laundry detergant, ect. Pet food is not included.
