fedex screwed up

In all fairness this really isn't apple's problem either. .

Yes, it is. It's not their fault but it is their problem. She paid them for an ipad to be delivered to her, and she has not received what she paid them for.

I went into the fedex store today to get an update on the package. They have not gotten it back, and don't know when they will. The manager wasn't very nice to me, not sure why. You'd think he would be apologetic or something since they messed up. Anyway, as for the guy who picked it up, who knows what the real story is. He wasn't in the hospital when he picked it up. His son was home when fedex called wanting the package back. When fedex had to talk to the guy who picked it up, that's when he was in the hospital. And when fedex was going to pick it up back up at their house, no one was going to be home.
Apple is dealing with it now, and they are sending me out a new one today. So, if fedex does get the package back, they will be returning it to apple. Guess i'm going to have to deal with fedex again because i'm going to have to pick up the new one at their office..ughh...

Are you allowed to receive packages at work? My coworkers and I generally have stuff shipped to our office if we know no one will be home to receive it.

In all fairness this really isn't apple's problem either. If they work with fedex for the customer it would be a great thing and awesome customer service but they really don't have to.

I believe that FedEx is an agent of Apple in this scenario making this Apple's problem. It's not just customer service to take care of this. Until the customer receives her paid item, Apple is still on the hook. It's between Apple and their agent, FedEx, to resolve this but ultimately Apple holds the overall responsibility to the customer.

Exactly. I just recently tried to purchase something online and kept getting a run around about why it hadn't been delivered yet. The merchant gave me the FedEx shipping number and said "Since your package is in the hands of the good folks at FedEx, I suggest you contact them." .... WHAT?

First of all, I (nor the OP) were the ones that contracted the services of FedEx. I (and the OP) may have had to pay a "shipping fee," but we paid that to the merchant, not to FedEx. Therefore, the merchant is the customer of FedEx and the only one that has a contract with FedEx. FedEx had no obligation nor incentive to work with me (or the OP).

Secondly, it's just bad customer service to basically say "Well, we have your money and we sent it out... not our problem if you never actually received your item." I was flabbergasted that a company would allow their customer service rep to suggest such a thing.

Did you use the FedEx package tracking app yourself? Is the package still in transit? If so, you have to wait. If not, FedEx has to investigate; the merchant can file a claim if it's lost. You need to find out from FedEx where your package is; the online resources are pretty handy for that.

When I looked on the FedEx site, the sender has to file the claim, so it is partly Apple's problem. I'm not surprised they just sent another one, but I wonder why they didn't pick a different carrier, just to keep a second lightning strike at bay?

It's on FedEx to retrieve the original one, but no , the guy who picked up the box that wasn't addressed to him is expected to return it on a timely basis. Otherwise, he's a thief.

FedEx security can block the guy from receiving any packages via FedEx. Their legal department can file a claim in court for the value or call the cops and explain the mixup, saying he is knowingly keeping someone else's property.

Fed ex delivered a HUGE box to me at home -- so even mistakes happen at home. It was HUGE -- It was about 5 feet long and terribly heavy. It was on the porch. I saw him deliver it, ring the bell and run back to his truck. By the time I got up and to the door, he was gone. It was too heavy for me to get in the house so I had to leave it on the porch.

It wasn't mine. It wasn't addressed to me. It wasn't even our address. I called fed ex immediately and kind of felt like I was being treated like a criminal. How did I get it if it wasn't mine? (hello? I just told you they DELIVERED it!) The place it was suppose to go was not too far from us (same city) but he implied it might be easier if I just took it there or called and have them come get it. (Uhhhhh - NO! I can't move it) It took about 2 hours, but a fed ex guy came back and got it. He said it was building supplies and so heavy.

I worked in a retail store that also had a VERY LARGE online business. All of our inventory was sent from the same warehouse as the online shipments and if it was small individual items, they would be in boxes of the exact same size/dimensions. Very frequently we would get boxes that were meant for customers in our shipment drops from FedEx. We would simply call FedEx back and schedule a pickup with the automated system :confused3 Mis-delivered packages happen all the time and the shipping companies have protocols in place to deal with this (supposedly). Best of luck!
