Federal Returns started today. Anyone file?

Both Fed and State are done and accepted. Did not get what I was hoping to get back from Federal and ended up owing the state, but that is life I guess.

Have all my stuff and will file next weekend. I usually get back around $5,000 each year. Just keep growing my emergency fund.

Turbo tax software has a major problem and waiting for the fix. It will not let you file. It returns you to a "fix" and it doesn't even go to the problem. It wants you to fix a child tax credit. Um, I do not even claim or have any dependents.

I had no problem filing with Turbo Tax.

I’m somewhat relieved to see someone else mention this. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out the problem before giving up for the night.

The PATH act. They can’t start running them until after 2/15 so the year are saying deposits won’t hit until 2/27. Last year i got it on 2/23 i believe. I think 2/27 is to give them some time but yup. End of February. It’s due to people claiming Kids illegally or divorced/separated parents both claiming Kids. Apparently this gives the IRS time to check things out instead of releasing funds and then dealing with audits. I have a friend who’s ex claimed their son and got the refund. She notified the irs and he got into huge trouble. But it took years for her to get that money back.
That is exactly something my ex would do, that's why I filed ASAP.

Really? I haven't heard of this but that would be a lifesaver for us. We have to rush to get our taxes in ASAP every year because DH's ex keeps trying to claim SD on her taxes. DH has primary custody and according to our state law that means he claims her on his taxes not his ex. Thankfully we haven't run into an issue with her claiming SD fraudulently but if what you say is true I am more than happy to wait a month for my refund.

I have everything done and entered, except some dividends that the info should be out on next week. Looking to get a decent return...I adjusted everything last year, too, to avoid having a HUGE return, but my math skillz must be lacking. It's all good, though...I don't mind getting a check each late-winter....helps the winter blues ;)

I filed on the 30th and my refund showed up in my checking account today (the 2nd). This, even though I itemize. Wow.

I claim the child tax credit & got my refund in 3 days. It's only people claiming the "additional" child tax credit or the earned income credit who have to wait.

I share custody, so it's hard to imagine the purpose of PATH is to help people with custody issues. If you have one child, like I do, it doesn't help. I think it exists just to keep the government from getting ripped off. Those two filing categories have a history of a high number of fraudulent claims.

Geez I did my son's I think b/4 the 29th and the IRS accepted it b/4 the 29th yet his refund isn't scheduled till 2/21 and it's only $18. Wonder why so long? Not that I care, just making conversation as others are getting them so fast. We direct deposited it in his bank account so not like we are waiting for a paper check. mmm?

Our return was accepted on the 26th and it is still "processing." We have a super simple return and usually have our refund within a week. I'm getting nervous, even though I know we filled everything out correctly.

Got our return last week direct deposit , took about a week after filing .. I was told they would not start accepting them till a certain time but ours was accepted and sent within a week ! :)

I filed for my SO Tuesday and yesterday he got a deposit date of Tuesday.

I did mine last week... I have yet to look to see if there is any money in my account. I tried 2 different programs, the Federal showed me getting back the exact same dollar amount. One said the state was giving me back money, the other said I owed the state money.... so I filed using the one that said I was getting back money from the state.

I'm doing mine next week; gathering most of the documents this week and I finally got my W2 from my employer so I think I've got everything. They are all sitting together in a folder.

My return got deposited this morning and I bought my airfare to California 5 mins later! Woo hoo!!
GOOD for you!:thumbsup2 IRS "opened its doors" for E filing, last Monday, that was extremely quick! Smart to file early, refunds are much quicker earlier in filing season. I shake my head:cool::confused: when taxpayers insist on paper check rather than direct deposit. Takes MUCH LONGER and much more risk of refund getting stolen out of mailbox. There have been many cases of theft unfortunately. No downside of direct deposit, IMO. I use the same rationale comparing the fact that Social Security Administration has REQUIRED direct deposit for a number of years now. Too many SS checks were getting stolen when they were mailed.:scared1:

I AGREE ! my dad ( passed last year ) was old school and always insisted on paper checks UNTIL his was stolen and took two years to get his replacement because they have to do a full investigation!

A friend of ours (our old babysitter) brought all his stuff over yesterday and I did his Fed and State taxes while he visited with us and got them filed. Just got the e-mail back about the Fed return being accepted. :)

We file an extension for ours every year, so we'll mail that in with our estimated payment sometime mid-April. I hate doing it on the last possible day, so it'll probably go out around the 12th or 13th.
