February 25, 2006 Western Magic Cruisers!!

Let's see if I can catch up here . . .

We fly in on Friday and are staying at the Marriott Orlando Airport. Our plan on Saturday morning is to head over to PC after breakfast. We'll dump the luggage off and head over to Ron Jon's before parking the van (DM and DA are spending about 2 months in FL this winter :sunny: ). Anyone else staying by MCO on Friday? We could have a mini-meet :rotfl:

For Key West, we have no plans. I think we'll wander around during the day. Have to be in Mallory Square for the sunset celebration :cool1: .

We booked with Captain Marvin's (11:15 trip) for Stingray City on Grand Cayman.

We plan to grab a taxi and head down to Paradise Beach in Cozumel.

We have not left our kids on board while in port yet. It's not that we wouldn't feel comfortable, but rather our kids have wanted to hang out with us. We'll see how it goes. Perhaps they'll want to stay on board while we're in Key West.

All this talk about concerts reminded me of another special event. A few years ago, I had to go to the Ford national dealer meetings out in San Fran. On the last night of the meetings, we had a formal dinner with entertainment. The opening act was Jay Leno and Kenny Loggins was the headliner. WOW, it was so cool to be in such an intimate setting with both entertainers.

We leave in 6 weeks! Happy Friday all!!!

Hi Kathy! Saw Tim McGraw with my DD about a year and half ago. Big and Rich opened for him! ( He Is gorgeous!! :faint: :faint: :faint: ) I have been to soooooo many concerts I dont think I could list them all!

Thanks for the input Rick.( about leavibg kids on the ship) Its just really gets hard sometimes with the age diffence in our kids. 17,15, and then 3. I sometimes feel like the older kids are getting cheated becuz of the younger one!

Only 6 more weeks!!! Gosh...I feel like I still have so much to shop for! I'll probably be sitting on the plane and still not feel ready!! :upsidedow

I know that some of you on here have cruised before...could you tell me if you have ever left any of your children on the ship while you were in port? I feel like we're kinda missing out on some things cuz he is not old enough to do most of the excursions. If you did could you tell me how it went! Thanks!!

We did this once before. Our DD was 5 at the time, and we wanted to do a walking history tour type thing on St. Thomas. Hubby went sailing and she was too young to go, and I knew she would be too small to walk a couple of hours with the rest of us. So what we did was talk it up to her. You know, the excitement of getting to stay and play while we went to listen to 'boring' stuff. LOL! Told her how exciting it was going to be to get to eat with her club and everything. We didn't have a problem. She had fun that day. Then again, she was five, so that might make a difference.

What is everyone else doing in Cozumel and does anyone have any points on the shopping on either island?

We would like to do a Sea Trek in Cozumel, but I don't know what is open since the hurricane.

Just found out that I have to take a quick business trip over to Germany two weeks before our cruise  . At least I'll have a week to reset myself (and my luggage) before leaving for MCO :goodvibes .

Rick ... your business trip will make the 6 weeks go even faster! :teeth:

hjensen,

We did leave our kids in the clubs when we went into Key West last year. They were 4,6 & 8. We only walked around the dock and Mallory Square for a couple hours and the boys were fine but I was a bit nervous. They however were not, they had a lot more fun onboard than they would have walking around with us.

We're thinking of checking out kayak in Cozumel. We've done the snorkeling at Paradise Beach. Just keep in mind the food establishment there 'own' the tables. We had a misunderstanding because they told us we could use the tables for our lunch (which was pb&j from DCL). When they finally realized we weren't ordering anything they weren't so nice to us. So, we abruptly moved our things to the corner of the coblestone way. That is a really neat place to snorkel but I've heard the underwater life is better at Chakanaub. We were satisfied with Paradise and it was suggested by our taxi driver. We've played mini-golf on Cozumel in the am and had plenty of time to taxi to the beach and get plenty of sun.

Rick - we're on the 10:00 am 1/2 day snorkel with Marvin's. I cannot wait for that part of the trip. Cayman is my favorite stop on the Western. It's always the prettiest for me.

To answer the first question about leaving my son. I was always too nervous. I don't doubt DCL is qualifed. I am just nervous that something could happen and what if I couldn't get there fast enough. Yep, I'm a little nervous. But, I am also the mom who didn't rush to his side when he cried - unless there was blood. I think it's up to the parent and child. If you have reservations - don't. I don't think it's worth the worry personally.

Well, we're 6 weeks out today!

We got a light dusting of snow last night. What a strange January. I actually heard thunder yesterday.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Rick

Hello I also have a question about the excursions. Is the Back To Nature Kayak Tour in Key West worth the time or the money? I have never been on a cruise before and this is all new to me. Any pointers would be great.

Hi everyone!!

Woke up to snow in CT this morning!! Can't wait for our cruise, under 6 weeks now!! I have a question....

Any idea when we might get our docs?? Last year when we cruised we got them six weeks out, is it running about the same now??

I think we got ours at about 4 weeks last year. Maybe it depends on your TA since the docs go there first.

No snow here today. The sun is out and it looks like a nice Sunday.

Welcome Boston!

I can't help you with this particular excursion. We're just going to bum around Key West. You might try asking this question on the main board.

Rick

Hello Boston!!!
Welcome to the boards and I am very excited that you started your post with us!!! Try to glance through these posts to get a hold of the tips already posted. Also, we are trying to arrange a meet for Sunday morning at 11:00 before we get off to go to Key West!!
I am just doing a foot tour Of KW stopping at the Butterfly Garden, The Hemmingway House and hopefuly the aquarium, so I have NO idea about the Kayakig. It sounds like fun though.. that would definately be the next thing in to do if I wasn't doing all these other things!!
Once again... welcome! :cool1: :cool1:

Hi everyone!

Been a while since I posted, but thought that I would jump in again and say hi! This is our first cruise and we are all looking forward to it! We are leaving on the 24th out of Logan and staying overnight at the Motel 6 in Cocoa Beach. My dd's are 12 and 4. We have ressies at Palo on the first night and I just heard that the clubs aren't taking kids on the first night. Anyone know if that is true? If it is, I am hoping that we can switch to another night once we board the ship! Other than that, we are really excited and can't wait to get on board!

MoiraRD

Hi MoiraRD!! From what I understand it is true about the kids club the 1st night. We also had ressies for Palo on the 1st night and were lucky enough to be able to switch it to Mon. night. From what I hear you should have no problem switching it! This is our first cruise also!! Cant wait! I have a DS that will almost be 4 by the time the cruise is done! (Bday is Mar. 6th!) Hope fully they will have the chance to meet! My brother lives in Mass.!! Oxford. Have a good day! :flower2:

Hi Holli!

I was afraid of that! :( I can't wait to have a nice meal for "grown-ups" only!! I can't even imagine that one! My dd4 just turned 4 on 12/11, so our kids are really close in age! That would be great if they do meet! Oxford isn't too far from me! I am in Bellingham. Thanks for the reply! See you all soon!

MoiraRD :)

We are also flying out of Logan on the 24 th on Song at 2:45 or something close to that. What time are you flying?

Kathy (Portsmouth NH)

Hi Kathy!

We are flying out at 2:35 on American! Talk about close! Where are you staying once you get to Florida? Are you staying in Orlando? We are staying at the Motel 6 in Cocoa Beach. I can hardly wait!! :)

Moira

We are staying at the Pop Century so that we can spend some time with my sister who lives in Celebration (only a couple miles away). I guess she may be bringing us to the boat the next day.
I will hope for a good day for travel for the both of us. We once got stuck trying to leave the day of a cruise when a snow storm hit (and it was April!) :earsgirl:
