February 2015 car rental code watch!

With Alamo Insiders just now when I try to select the car for $184.62 by pressing GO the timer just spins and spins and spins. Have tried from different pc's and with both Chrome and IE. I think we broke it :guilty:

have had this many times in past years with Alamo's website. So strange.

We haven't rented a car in a few trips, and I'm getting sticker shock now trying to rent a car for our upcoming Jan 31-Feb 8 trip. Thanks to 2 kids and lots of luggage we need at least a standard, if not full size (and I think we could make a standard SUV work since we are also renting the double stroller and not lugging it also).

If my memory serves me right, we used to get under $200 for a full size 8 day rental at MCO, even way under. Now the best I can seem to find is around $250 through Dollar, most places are coming in over $300. I also thought I remembered from previous experience that waiting until now to book a car was fine, maybe even better than booking earlier. But I wonder if I made a mistake?

Has anyone gotten better for this class of car? I skimmed through the thread, and it seemed as if a lot of people were under $200, but they might have all been smaller cars.

Thanks for any advice!

Ninafeliz,

I just tried your reservation with Alamo insider and it was $203.63 everything included in a full size and $258.02 for a 7 passenger minivan.

How did you get that? I get $304.80 full size and $536.64 minivan for the alamo insiders price. 5:00 PM 1/31 - 10:30 AM 2/8.

Ok, I see how you did it now. It was with the vroom, vroom, vroom, code. However, that 203.63 isn't the total price, when I choose it and move to the next page it adds all of the fees and taxes, and it becomes $308.15. I was able to get a minivan through dollar for somewhere around $250, I'm not sure of the exact total because we added a carseat that brought it to over $300. I'll look superficially before we go, but I don't have time to spend an hour or more each day looking for different codes, so i suspect this is our final rate! Oh well. I guess it doesn't actually seem to bad for a minivan, I've never even driven one before.

How long are you renting for and how did you get that rate through Dollar? I would love to compare to what I currently have with Alamo, if possible.

I used this: If you are an Alamo insider, then use these codes Coupon Code AD7394SDJ and contract ID 299851.

Its for the dates I listed - 2/19 - 2/23 so it's a weekly rental. I tried to shorten it by a day today and the price went up to over $500.

I also made a 4 day reservation for 2/20 - 2/23 on National Emerald Aisle for $186.41. Stupid expensive, but I'll keep checking.

Thank you for this. We got a midsize car for 10 days picked up at the Car Care Center for $260. Not what I wanted to pay, but at least not the $400 to $1000 I was getting on my own.

We got 175.00 economy car for 9 days. It was a coupon I had use back in November. I am still in search of a better rate but wow the rates are climbing up more and more! Anyone know why? Perhaps, mid-winter break? February 10-18 is our dates.

New national coupons came out today that are good through March 31. Got another $20 off my National rental so it's now $162.98 for a full size. Time to cancel my Alamo rental.

Just checked my files. In 2013, I paid $98.94 for National Emerald Aisle for the same 4 days. Sigh. And last year I paid $134 for a whole week in February.

Where did you find the National coupons?

Found a great code for Avis through Fat Wallet (State of Florida AWD #A113400 – Midsize $28.95). After booking, my reservation shows a corporate rate code. Will I have to show any ID when checking in with my Massachusetts license? Will they honor this rate or do you think it's only valid for State of FL employees/residents or for a rental in the state of FL? Hmmmmmm. Anyone? Looking for a hassle free check-in when we arrive late at night.
Thanks!

EDIT:
After further "investigating", it looks like this code is for State of FL employees/vendors. I'll continue my search! Some people have used it without any ID being requested, others have been asked. If anyone has any other info on this code, please share!

Does anyone have any idea why rates have went up sooooo much? Trying to get an economy sized rental for 2/26-3/5 and lowest I have seen is 330$:confused3

Last year for 9 days it was like 200$!

I am hoping they go down. :thumbsup2

I have used the following:

Alamo insider, Coupon Code AD7394SDJ and contract ID 299851

Are there any "requirements" to use this code and contract numbers? I am guessing that if Alamo sends you a confirmation email there are no restrictions? Thanks!

I urge you caution. Know what your code requirements are. I used a code to book my 2/10-18 trip using a discount code shared on-line and it was for international travelers. I had called Alamo at the 888 number to confirm the rate to be sure it included all taxes/fees. I was told it did. I also asked about adding my spouse to the contract. I was told there was no additional charge. I knew there was and called MCO Alamo directly. The agent at MCO was very nice and explained the code requirements to me. Had I not called, I would have needed to present an international license...

Also, found another code that offered a great rate with Avis but it looks like that one requires a State of FL employee ID. Not willing to have the hassles when we arrive and frankly, we don't qualify to use them.

I tried to plug in the codes you referenced, but was unable to get them to work ("invalid") using my dates, so I'm not sure what they are for.

Good luck, keep searching!

Badamon, thank you for your response. Do you know if there is anyway how I can find out exactly what the code is, where it comes from and any limits? I am wondering if I call Alamo if they can tell me. Rental prices for February in Florida seem to be double or more than what they usually are at this time of year. Have been going this time for almost 10 years now and have not ever been this high. Thanks again for your response and have a most magical day!

It's for Vroom Vroom. There's been a lot of discussion about this code, so you can search the board.

Yup, that's exactly right. It was a Vroom, Vroom code. I found out more info by doing a Google search using the code. Fat Wallet had a chat going on some of the codes, too.

I Googled the code I used (ended up that it was a Vroom Vroom code). If you give that a try it might help you better understand if there are any restrictions on the one you're using. I don't want to discourage you, it may be a fully accessible code, mine wasn't. I just didn't want any surprises at the counter upon our arrival and have to deal with it on the spot and re-negotiate. Not the way I like to start a vacation!
Good luck -- let me know what you find out!
:)
