February 2014

Oh! Can I be added to this list? Our trip is from 2/22 - 3/4. We have never gone on such a long trip and I am SO excited!

We're going 2/22 through 3/1. This is our longest trip too. We're usually 4-5 days tops.

Magic Bands for first part of our split stay should be here today :cheer2: 29 days to go! mdsouth, are the days you added at POFQ also? We're there the 8th-15th :)

Yes. All at PORFQ. I was able to add the days at my stay play and dine rate
My daughter is ten so around the age of your boys

I was just curious how many days off school other Feb WDW families with young children are taking off? We are going during two half days and two full days off for President's day and parent/teacher conferences leading up to President's day so we are really only missing two half days of school.

Even though my kids are young (5, 7), I am still anxious about them missing school. Does it get harder or actually easier when the kids are in middle/high school?

I guess if one homeschools, they would have the best opportunity to visit WDW at times of low crowds.

Very excited that we are all a month or so away!!!

We have February break the week were going (President's Day week). Since my husband and I are both teachers we all get a break from school.

Welcome MsMagical!!:cool1: Woo Hoo! Less than a month to go! Where will you be staying? Let me know and I will add it to your information on page one.

Welcome Hoodie!:dance3: Being able to stay for a longer trip will be wonderful. I know I am feeling better now that I will be able to go to spend more time in certain parks. I an not as worried about fitting everything in on one day.
Let me know where you will be staying and I will add it to page one.

NOW we'll overlap--we're there from 8-15 :) where will you be staying for the first part?

We are staying at PORFQ for all our trip, 9-16. At first I was looking at a split stay but then decided to just stay at one resort for the full time. We have never stayed at PORFQ before so I will have checking it out and also checking out POR.

In my opinion it gets harder to take children out of school as they get older. We took ours out for week long stays when they were both in elementary school and had no problems. But that was a long time ago! In November we got to take our grandson to WDW. In the middle of August his mother got a tentative OK from his 3rd grade teacher for him to miss 5 days of school. In order to get the final approval his attendance record for the first 9 weeks of school needed to be near perfect (thank goodness he only missed 1 day due to illness) and he had to stay current in all of his work and display a consistently good attitude. He worked diligently because he really wanted to go to WDW. We had a great time!

We never attempted to take our children out of school once they reached middle school (it was still junior high back then) because they were taking advanced placement classes and participating in other activities that they did not wish to miss.

You're right that home school families have much more flexibility!

Both my daughter and I will miss 2 days of school (I am a teacher). We are going the Thursday before Presidents Week. The airfare was soooooo much cheaper flying Thursday to Thursday, and my principal doesn't mind. I am hoping that my daughter will be able to get her work ahead of time and work on it the 3 days she has before February break is over.
32 days and counting!:goodvibes

We are staying at AKL Jambo house and I can't wait to do be able to take my time a little bit this time.

I'm new here but have been reading a lot as I planned my trip! I check in Feb 2 to POP, out on Feb 6th. It's my first trip, and a quick one, so I'll be touring commando style!

Feel like I won the ADR lottery today... snagged 'Ohana on the 9th at 5:30pm and BOG at 4:20pm on the 11th (I wanted it as early as possible since we also have the Wishes dessert party!!!)

BOG fp for lunch opened for me for the first week of February! I arrive on 31st and could schedule for that day, and i have been checking daily for the rest of the week. Well, this morning it worked! Just thought I would let y'all know.

BOG FP+ seems to be open for all of February. I was able to get a FP+ for 2/24.

Same here. Made BOG FP+ and pre ordered meals (I'm hoping the meals taste as good as they look online). It hasn't been but a few hours since I made the FP+ reservation but it has yet to show up on main "DisneyWorld" website when I log in. I made sure to leave one of the three spots open to make this reservation. I guess it will take some time to align since the "BeOurGuestLunch" website seems to be slightly different from the main website (crossing my fingers).

Are there any other FP+ reservations that can be made in conjunction with your meals? I made one regular reservation at Hollywood and Vine with the Fantasmic line option.

You mean to tell me she won't be taking her homework to Disney?! ;)

I'm an infrequent flyer and boy did I pick most expensive day to fly. We are flying in on the 12th and leaving on President's day. I'm not sure if it is because it's a holiday or a Monday but the price of the flight back is three times the price as the flight in. Had we stayed one or two more days I wonder if the airfare cost would have balanced out the package cost.

That's great it worked out for your trip with your grandson! Boy is he one lucky kid!

I'm pretty certain my son's school administration would be flexible with us but I played it safe and used only 2 out of the 3 excused absences they are allowed per year by our county for this trip.

I can see your point that as kids get older they'll have even more activities and even responsibilities. I guess at that point, we can battle the crowds a bit more during the hot days of summer like everyone else (and make cheapo dad happier with a less expensive trip).

So, what's everyone doing the day they get in?

We touch down in Orlando at 1:30 p.m. and I figure we'll be at POR by 3. If everyone isn't too tired, we're going to take the boat to Downtown Disney and check that out before heading to the Polynesian for a 6:40 dinner at Ohana. Then, it's home and to bed early for MK first thing in the morning.

We're 20 days out, it's 10 degrees in Iowa today and I'm feeling restless.

We should land around 10:30am and be to POFQ around noon. Plan is to head straight to AK as they are open till 8pm on our arrival day. Dinner at Flame Tree :)

I really hope to give Flame Tree a try this trip. I love BBQ.

Call me crazy, but I just have to start each WDW trip at MK.
