February 2011 - who's going? - IT'S FEBRUARY! WAHOO!

02.04 - 02.06 - funatdisney - VGC - No pesky teenagers! :rotfl:

Alright, hijacked by those pesky teenagers!! We are still going, but dropped one of our nights. We are now going Feb 5 and checking out on Feb 6.

Ends up that DD(13) has a volleyball tournament on the 5th and there is a horse trade show that weekend that DD(15) and I wanted to attend. So DH will take DD(13) to volleyball and I will be attending the Equine Affaire with DD(15). Of course, these activities are no where near DLR, but I thought is would be nice to meet up at night, since it was hard to get the studio in the first place!

Made a reservation for July 4th weekend for DH and I to get away. What can you do, :confused3 before you know it, they will be moving on to bigger things,

How many days are you planning to stay?

We'll be there from the 17th to the 22nd, although the 20th is a non-park day.

I have an 8 year old and a six year old, so the younger daughter is a big stretch to get into the Disney Animation class, but they said she could participate at my discretion as long as I was there to help her. We could definitely not do the Physics class!

My big challenge is that we're tagging along with my husband (who will be at a convention) and I have a two year old. He happens to be available to watch the baby during the Disney Animation time slot on the 22nd, but will have limited availability on any other days.

It's a bummer, because I was looking forward to getting the girls into another class with Disney. It is a phenomenal way to have a unique experience at the parks without paying extra for a tour or special experience. And it gives you access to a great discount on park tickets!

I hope that the low enrollment in this class is unusual - I would hate to see Disney eliminate the Youth Education Series because they couldn't fill classes! I hope that we can find ways to participate in it for many years to come...

What classes are you guys talking about? Are we talking Presidents week? My family may be game for a new Disney experience...
We are talking President's Week--here's the situation in a nutshell--Disney has a wonderful series of classes, the Youth Education Series--my daughter has been dying to go to the Animation and the Physics classes, and I was so excited when they opened them up to individual enrollment--and so disappointed when they cancelled them due to low enrollment.

If we can get 15 people together, and buy through YES, it will include 1-2 of these classes, and STEEPLY discounted park tickets. (For those with tickets or annual passes, the classes are about $15 each all by themselves.)

Here's more details (and the number to call for Individual Enrollment--if they tell you something different than they told us, please post it):

One class would certainly be better than no classes--we'll see if we can get the Animation class on the 22nd. It's at least worth a try.

I called and got an answering machine. I have 2 DDs (8 and 11) so I'd do the California class on the 20th and the Animation class on the 21st. My older DD would probably love to do the Physics as well... So have these classes been cancelled or they are threatening to cancel?

If parents are expected to attend, do we pay similar prices? Do we count towards the 15 count? Both me and DW would be going as well.

Hi Silmarg -

They did officially cancel the Animation class, because my daughter was the only student signed up. I asked if it could be reinstated, and they said they would reinstate if they met the minimum number of students, which is 15. I'm not sure about the California class - we're from Texas and they discouraged our enrollment in that one. They felt that we wouldn't have the basic knowledge needed for the class because we don't get any California history in school.

Adult chaperones do not count toward this student count, but there is also no charge for the adult chaperone. I'm not sure if both of you could attend the class - I seem to remember one chaperone per student, but this could be wrong. It might be one chaperone per family group?

The picture I get is that we would all count towards the 15 count, as long as there aren't more adults than children. One person could only do an animation class on the 22nd, so we might want to try to set it up for that day instead of the 21st, if its possible. Right now, you're the first who wants to do the California class (with 4 of you), and there are about 8 of us (including your family) who would be interested in the Animation class, and 4 of us (including 2 from your family) who would be interested in the Physics class.

It will take 15 people to make any of the classes go, so I'll keep posting a running total in hopes that we can reach it for all three classes.

I got the picture from the website that chaperones did count and had to pay, but if the cast member told you differently, than you have the correct information

my disney obsession got some new information--chaperones do not count, but they also do not have to pay--in that case, we have 2 kids interested in the California class (including yours), 6 in the animation class (including yours), and 2 in the Physics class (including yours)

It's 15 to make the classes go, so we'll see if anyone else joins us.

I just got off the phone with Jeff at the YES office, and told him we were trying to save the Disney Animation Magic class. Adult chaperones do not pay and do not count toward the total number of students. We would need to reach 15 students to save the class. Jeff is going to get back to me on the number of chaperones allowed during open enrollment. For a regular class, it's one chaperone for every 10 students, but he doesn't know the requirement for open enrollment.

I'm going to try to recap the people who said they were interested, so we can get a count:

Mydisneyobsession: 2
Silmarg: 2
Gipperland: 1
Mellers: 1

So 6 students. Did I get everyone?

I have some good news and a little bad news:

The bad news is that my six year old can't count toward our group, so we're down to five.

However, Jeff spoke to management, and they're willing to make a one time exception for us to allow the minimum number of students to be 10 for the Disney Animation Magic class, rather than the usual 15.

I know there are some people who were interested in the other classes rather than Animation Magic, but I'm guessing they are working with us on this class because my daughter has been enrolled since December? I'm not sure of the "why," but I'm hoping there are five more kids out there interested in the class!

So are we saying that I should ask for the 22nd animation if they call me back (even though its not on the website any longer)?

And I suppose no class, no discount?

I called the YES folks again and I spoke to a very pleasant young lady. She confirmed that all YES classes on Presidents week are officially cancelled, but if we could get 10 kids (parents dont count) then they could resurrect a class.

Do you think we should start a new thread on this topic?

Are there other more DL centric forums (other than the DIS) we can try to tap?

Hi Sil - Did they say how to enroll in a class once it has been removed from the website?

I posted to the main Disneyland forum with links to the Disney Animation class description and the price list for discounted tickets. Maybe we'll get some interest there.

Perhaps someone could modify that post to include the other classes, since it sounds like those are in the mix?

She said if we get 10... we would become a group... so we'd need the 10 kids... I guess one of us would call.. to set up the class... and then each of us could call and give the credit card info...
