February 2009 - Walt's Warriors!!

Just a quick pop in to say hi and happy Wednesday to everyone! :yay:

No running for me today, unfortunately. I have a sore throat today and I hemmed and hawed for awhile trying to decide if I should do it, but in the end decided to put on my pjs and take some echinacea. Better to rest while it's still just a sore throat and hope it goes away quickly! I haven't had a cold for almost two years (and that was after my first year of teaching where I had a cold every second week for a year!) so I'm crossing my fingers that my lucky healthy streak continues!

A quick check in for me tonight...working on a cake.

But I did get out for my run beforehand. 5.4 mile hill workout tonight with the running group. Funny thing is that one of our coaches wasn't there tonight because he was at Disney on Ice! I guess I can't fault him for that!:thumbsup2

Keep up the great work Warriors!

Good morning warriors! I did the wii fit last night for 30 minutes. I'm supposed to be running tonight, but I am going to be taking 2 days off. I have a date tonight and tomorrow night I am going to a Sublime tribute. Sat. & Sun will definitely be running days.

Morning everyone!

I went to the gym and did an hour of cross training, some weights and core work. For the last week I've been working on my lower back and core, so I can crawl out of bed without being all achy. So I've been doing supermans and back extensions, Roman chair & a lot of crunches. So far so good!

Kate I'm so jealous you get to run Boston! Whoo Hooo! I was just mentioning to Jeff yesterday, if I were a 70 year old woman I still wouldn't be able to qualify! LOL

Have a good day!

Marcia - :faint: Yikes, that does not sound fun to me. Goood for you!

Michelle - WTG on the hill run! lol about your coach!

Kate - That still soudns awesome!!! :thumbsup2

Sarah - SOUnds liek a wies choice. Hope you feel better today! There's some snasty stuff oging around her ethat starts with a sore throat. :sad2:

Marcie - After being sick, thos e2 days off are probably a good thing. DOn't push too much. (Don't have too much fun an dbecaome sleep-deprived either, though. ;) )

Kat - COngrats on teh 2 miles!

Jim - Oh no!!! SOrry your world i snot cooperating. :grouphug:

I decided mybody needed a day off last night and i feel much better today. Will have miles to report tomorrow.

Hey Warriors. Sorry I have not posted. The last couple of weeks have been a little traumatic. I lost my dad two weeks ago today. So we were gone for the funeral. I have started running again and I will post this weekend after my half marathon on Sunday. Hope everyone has a good weekend and stay safe everyone.

Roxy: So sorry to hear the news!! :grouphug:

AFM: I got out after work and got my 4 miles in at the local park. Brian Piccolo Park in Cooper City FL!! Add on 10 with cooldown and stretching.

Have a good Friday everyone - it's a rest day for me.

Tracy

Hey Warriors! Glad to see everyone getting on.

Sarah, it's great to have you here. I hope your feet feel fine.

My w/o this week has been back and forth to the hospital to see DH. Thank you for your PD! It has been working. I think he is coming home tomorrow. Then I should be back to w/o mode.

Roxie On behalf of myself and the Triple D's, we are all very sorry for your loss. Since I am running in a half on Sunday also, I will make sure to think about you in a moment of silence. :grouphug:

Hey Warriors! Lots of great work-outs being posted! WOO HOO!

Sadly, I am laid up with a torn hamstring! OMG it hurts! I have been on complete rest the past 2 days, but I have some miles to report from earlier.

2/7 = 4 mile run, plus core and stretch for 1 hour total
2/8 = 5.2 mile run, 1.3 mile snow shoe trek, strength for 2 hours total
2/9 = 13 mile bike plus core and stretch for 1:15 total
2/10 = 1/2 mile swim plus 10 mile bike and SLOW 2 mile walk and stretch for 1:30
2/11 = lots and lots of stretching 4x/day for 20 minutes each. 1:20
2/12 = same....all stretching. 1:20

Tomorrow I am off to PT first thing in the morning. PLEASE send healing thoughts my way. My very first tri is 3 weeks from Sunday and I desparately want to be able to particiapte!

Roxy--healing prayers headed your way. I am sorry for your loss. Hang in there.

Roxy ~ My thoughts are with you and your family. Good luck with the 1/2 on Sunday!

3DisneyKids ~ Ouch! don't try to push it and make sure you take enough time off to recover and heal! Sending PD your way! :pixiedust:

Roxy:  to you and your family. I'm so sorry for your loss.

3Disney Kids: Yikes! It's always disappointing when your body decides it's time for some mandatory time off. Hope you're feeling better soon.

My decision to take it easy and go to bed early paid off yesterday, as I woke up this morning with not a hint of a sore throat. I swear, taking 4x the recommended daily intake of echinacea and going to sleep as soon as you start feeling the inkling of a cold coming on does it every time!

I decided to do my interval workout that I missed yesterday and it was fantastic! I took my fiance's advice and actually pushed myself on my fast intervals (he always tells me that it doesn't matter if you're out of breath at the end of your lap because that's what the recovery lap is for) and ran at a 9:00 mile, which is quite fast for me. It really felt great to just stretch my short little legs and RUN for those laps! I think I'm going to enjoy speedwork this year. :goodvibes I ran 2.5 miles total during my workout (5x400m fast, with recovery laps between).

Also, I have a question for everyone: I've been having trouble with a sore and stiff lower back for the last few months. I'm sure it's connected to running, as it goes away if I miss a few days, and it was so bad after the half marathon that I couldn't lean against anything with my lower back for a couple days. I assume it has to do with my running posture. Anyone else have this problem, and know any ways of preventing it?

Anyway, I'm already loving this team, Warriors! I can't believe I didn't join a year ago! :lmao:

Roxy - I am so sorry about your dad. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Sarah - I have upper back more. COre work is teh best thing I can think of. HAve you read Chi Running? It's s form that's supposed to minimize your impact. I'm not good enough yet to have no impact, but I've improved a lot frm it. Glad you are feeilng better!

Tracy - OCngrats on teh 4 miles!

Erika - Oh no! Prayers adn pixie dust for speedy healing ocming your way!

AFM: DH recommended swimming last night to give my body one more day of no impact. So, we got dressed, went ot the aquatic center, walked in teh door adn i remebered the pool was closed. :sad2: Wee took that as a sign we were supposed to rest a bit more as opposed to a sign that I am a bear of very little brain.

I di ddo 53 minutes on the wii fit, including all my yoga moves. Ubloced on more too! I have a 5K tomorrow, so while it's only 3 miles, at least they are double.

Roxy so sorry to read about your dad. Hope you and your family are doing ok in this really horrible time. We're all thinking of you.

Debra Thanks for being so encouraging and for your lovely cheers.

Jim well done for getting your stuff done, even if you were a little PO'ed. Yeah i know- it's awesome that we're doing boston, but also absolutey terrifying!

Marcia great work doing core work and all that super sore work! Whoo. I know, it's going to be sad being overtaken by 80+ year olds :rotfl:

Tracy a 4 miler in the park sounds lovely.

Carrie enjoy the 5km, and more wii fun sounds great to me. I love all of you guys writing about WiiFit, i had must get mine out more again. Made me giggle reading your post!

Lily so thrilled to hear DHs doing ok, i thing travel time to hospital should count!

Erika you will def be in my thoughts. Hope PT goes really well and they can get you to the tri. It just sounds unbelievably painful! take care

Sarah your speed work sounds brilliant- i totally need to take your fiance's advice and push to the point that i can't breathe he he! Glad that you hit your cold on the head too.

AFM (i like that!) umm yesterday did 4.2miles of hill work on the TM in 40 mins and then 10 mins stretching. They felt hard but it's def getting easier- practise makes..... slightly better :) Today- just core exercises and physio ones for 30 mins.

Roxy- I'm so sorry. :grouphug:

I did 3 miles yesterday with Emma on her bike. The last mile a big brown lab decided to join us. It kept darting past us and running through yards and then coming back. Have I mentioned Emma is deathly afraid of dogs?! So, picture this: Emma blazing on her bike, big lab following her, 2 dogs following the big lab, and me in the back running at about an 8 minute pace trying to catch Emma! So, I guess I got in some speedwork.

Hopefully today will be less adventurous!

Jen that's hilarious! You see emma's actually cunningly planned for you to do speedwork. That protective instinct is guaranteed!

I had to pop back to add that i did 25 mins on wii fit- found a boxing one on there which puzzled me initially ha ha ha go there on second go! oh and third... fourth :rotfl:
