Hi guys! I lurk more than anyone and have been keeping up with this thread since before I booked for our Feb. trip. It's a surprise for the boys and I'm about to bust at the seams. I'll be making t-shirts for us to wear Mardi Gras from something made by Amy on the DISigns page. Here's a link:
http://www.amymickey.com/Holidays2.html We'll be wearing the second design.
I just have to figure out how to make them without my children finding out.:lovestruc

Look for us at MK on Fat Tuesday!!!

I tried to talk my family into matching shirts...it was a no go. I guess when your children are grown its just not someting they want to do. However they have agreed to wear beads to pass on in the park. You won't be able to spot our party of seven by our shirts, but we should be loaded with beads. I am soooo looking forward to this trip.

GEAUX TIGERS!!

Surprise trips are FUN!! We surprised our DDs for their birthdays in June. We went for 9 nights and we all had so much fun!! This trip is another surprise for them but it's only because our oldest DD will have to miss 2 days of school and we don't want her talking about the trip at school. We will only be there for 3 nights this time.

Good luck on getting your shirts done without them finding out!! 2 days before we left on our trip in June I "didn't feel good at all" :rolleyes1 so DH took the girls out to dinner & to Wal-Mart while I packed the suitcases. Do you think that would work for making your shirts?

What are everyone's thoughts on using touring plans during an early Feb. trip? Do you think it's necessary, or do you prefer to do your own thing? I read a story about it in the Travel section of the Minneapolis Star Tribune today, and it made me wonder if we should use touring plans. The writer of the story used touring plans from "The Unofficial Guide" and he traveled to WDW 2007 spring break. I'm hoping it won't be quite as busy during the beginning of February, so maybe we won't need to be as concerned with using touring plans.

25 days for me!!

I'm puzzled about the packing thing--it's so cold here in VA that I can't even think about warmer weather.
What are you all packing? Shorts?? Capris? Arctic wear??:lmao:

Touring plans--I'm hoping to not have to--that's why I'm trying this time of year. We went over Easter last year and even my best touring plan wasn't prepared!

We are using the touring plan. This will be our 20th trip and we have planned our previous trips using every method available. Birnbaums book steered us in the wrong direction every time we used it. We no longer visit the park that opens early for resort guests.....we find the other parks a lot less crowded. I honestly believe there is no "perfect" time to go anymore.

In answer to what to pack...bring clothes that can be layered and expect anything from 80 degree heat to snow flurries. We always check the ten day forecast before we head down, but we know that it can (and usually does) change. Last Thanksgiving we were supposed to have a few days in the low 70's, so we packed capris and light jackets (along with jeans and sweatshirts). Two days before Thanksgiving, Orlando had snow flurries so we were scrambling to purchase hats and gloves.

We don't use touring plans, but we do plan before we go. We look at what is a FP ride, which one of those is likely to be busiest, and head to that attraction first, grab a FP, go to the surrounding non-FP rides, head back and do the FP ride we got the FP for, and then move to the next FP ride and do the same thing. Early Feb shouldn't be too bad, certainly not as bad as spring break.

As far as clothes, we'll check just before we leave, but if it's the 70's for the days and 50's for the nights, we plan on bringing jeans and sweaters in a bag we will keep in a locker and wearing capris and tshirts (the boys with their long shorts) . When the temps start to dip, we head to the lockers and change. We are packing mini-gloves and long jammy pants to wear under our jeans if the lows will be colder than that. We have those polar-fleece sweaters which are nice and light weight-wise, but very warm. We will also have our polar-fleece blankets in the locker bag for the fireworks shows when you are near water and the wind is cold, not to mention the cush for your tush :goodvibes

We have a TGM membership and I am following it lightly. I cannot imagine being at the parks for rope drop every time.
I am avoiding EMH parks except for Superbowl Sunday night. DH will be watching the game and one of my kids may stay with him(DD8-my football girl), or both will be with me at MK.

Hoping for lower crowd days, going to check TGM in a few to see if there are any changes. he has been well worth the $18 so far, but I will let you know after the trip too!

Luggage ready to start being filled!!
We will be packing like you all-layers. We have gone at this time before and it was sweaters/light jackets at night and in the morning-then we got a locker for them or put them in a shared stroller(with my SIL).

I spent $50 at Walmart today on LSU stuff for the game tomorrow! DD8 had nothing LSU but her cap and I have nothing LSU-now I do!! We'll have LSU gear on at least 1 day in the parks!!

I cannot get the t-shirts made that I wanted b/c they say it is copyright infringement(sp?)-it is a painting Ashton did when she was 5 of Mickey!!

Kind of upset. It's not like Disney drew it and I am making shirts of it. I mean they sell embroidery machines with Disney that you can wear to the parks-THAT is not copyright infringement?? I know it was sold to them but you made a t-shirt from it.

Here is the painting...

DS had his disney beanie on today - I'm hoping it won't be nearly this cold when we go............ brrrrrr brrrrr

I hope your pipe isn't busted - that wouldn't be good!!!

Thank God it wasn't busted. It was just stopped up from the pipes getting cold. We have been out of town..otherwise I would have responded earlier. Anyway, I am just making my packing list..but it seems like I am running out of time. I still haven't received final papers from AAA. Does AAA sell those P&P party tickets too? Oh well...lots to do..back to school tomorrow. Hope you all have a great week...and I hope we all can keep our mind's on the the job and not Disney. I am already having a hard time..

I would love to try the touring plans, but we NEVER make it to park opening. We normally arrive at the parks around 9:30 or 10:00 and stay until closing. The longest wait we have had was for the Indy cars (20 minutes). Other than that its usually just the time it take to walks through the quee. I follow Mr. Mike's best park day and only go to each park on a green day. I must say at first I was disappointed with Mr. Mike, but am happy with it now and will use it for every trip that follows.

Lori just make your shirts as long as you don't sell them. Tons of people make shirts and its no problem. We made some for our first trip.

For packing, we are the same. Layers. I take 2 pairs of shorts for each one of us. 3 jeans and thermals each and sweatshirts that we just tie around our waists if it gets hot. I keep the beanies, gloves and ponchos in the bag.

Thank Goodness it wasn't busted!!! I haven't gotten my final papers yet either........ we booked through AAA also - I will call her tom. Anyway, I don't know if they sell the P&PP tickets, I called CRO the day they went on sale and bought mine, I have them already. They are kinda like credit cards, or room key type cards. Last year we just picked them up at the resort, but they mailed them this time. I guess you could call AAA to see, but if not, I'd order them from CRO asap - to get the advance purchase price, it's better than paying full price the day of!!

We don't use the touring plans either ~ we just kinda go with the flow. We do decide where we want to eat, then make our park days according to that - somewhat. We always get hoppers, so it really doesn't matter. DH does like to do the EMH though, so we will do the evening ones. I'm not up early on vacation, so we usually miss the rope drop, but we like to stay till closing, so it works for us.

Lori ~ I agree with Sabrina, just make your shirts and don't worry!!! I see tons of "homemade" shirts around the parks. I do have a story though, I tried to get a pic of DS and Capt. Jack put on his B-day cake at walmart (they can put a pic of whatever on the cake) anyway, they told me the same thing, it was copyright infringment and they couldn't do it!!!!!! I was like................. WHAT??????? YOU SELL Disney Cakes here!!!! I argued with the lady for like an hour!! Finally I told her it wasn't Jack Sparrow and it wasn't taken at Disney, it was a guy down the road dressed up for halloween....... she snarled and finally agreed to do it. I mean, the guy at the pirate tutorial "looks" kinda like Jack, but he's NO Johnny Depp........... I was so mad........ I mean, it was MY picture that DH took, it wasn't Disney's, they didn't own it!!! Anyway, my fussing with her long enough worked. I think she just wanted me out of there!!! It's crazy!!

Good Luck - I love the pic by the way and hope you go ahead with making your shirts!!

Okay, I thought of it and made 1 a while back-but the fabric that it printed on was soooo stiff. The shirt looks funny. I found some differnet fusing that is thinner, but I have to flip my image and I cannot figure that out. I can do the picture w/out the design that some one made for me. Bummer. This is pushing it-25 days ahead of time!! Gotta go cook. I just printed up the images, now I have to go buy the shirts. Hopefully Michaels has a t-shirt sale!! I got some a while back for $3 each or less. Too bad I did not think of this.

Wendypooh-I'd 'ave been mad too!! That law is ridiculous with some things. I feel that my daughter's painting was not copyright protected-it was a little kids creation-that happened to be Mickey! It is not like we copied a photo and are printing it up for shirts. If they come out cute-I will be making 7 of them!!! My DB and SIL want them too for themselves and thier DD3.

25 days!!!

We'll be there 2/12-2/19. I found the schedule for the extra magic hours, but where can I find out when the MK fireworks at scheduled?

Thanks in advance for the help!

On Disney's site. I am sure mousesavers and allears.net has it also, though.

I will try to post it for the first week of Feb at least. If anyone going the second week and later, please post it-could help our threads and planning!!

Lori

lori1043 - I can find park hours on Dinsey's site, but not MK firworks. Allears.net had MK spectro & firwork schedule posted on for the month of January - but not February. Nothing on mousesavers either. maybe Feb is posted yet??
