Small world eh ?? I use to work at Camp Cody and happend to date a few of the gals at Calumat back in the day ... also spent a lot of time with a number of people that worked at the Yankee Smokehouse I miss them all and those were great summers when I was a kid ... we do head up that way and hope to get there this summer to visit the camp.

Wouldn't it be weird if we knew some of the same people? Most of the time I spent there was in the early to mid eighties. How about you?

The Pizza Barn had the BEST pepperoni pizza. The edges got a little crisp. mmmm. We haven't gone in years because my favorite up there is the smokehouse. I get so excited when I see the great big pig sign! Every time we go by the Pizza Barn, my DH jokingly asks if I want to go there instead. Sometimes I entertain the idea, then nope! -- on to the smokehouse

Did you live in the area, or spend summers up there? My father lived in Chocorua Ski and Beach. About 15 minutes up the road (16) from the smokehouse. Remember the gondola rides up Whittier? and the year they tried to revive it with the alpine slide and the bumper boats? The mountain is all grown in now-no sign of the ski trails. I almost hit the lodge one day coming down-that was a steep mountain!
It's changed so much up there now.

Has anyone started gettin airfare? Wow! It's over $500.oo pp around here. Not good, not good at all...I am hoping the rates drop a bit after summer.

We always drive or take the autotrain, the airfare always seems nuts that week, we do not have any of the good disounted airline where we are and it seems that $600 per person is the best that we can do....

We booked our entire trip through the DCL, (air, transfers). I am thinking this was probably not the best (cheapest) way to go. Reading how many families go down the night before, staying in a hotel close to the terminal sounds like a good idea. Especially if we get bad weather, which in Michigan is probable. Trying not to overthink this trip...

This is our first cruise, and my first posting!!!

Was the weather good in February on your last cruise? Did you go to the Bahamas? I have heard that it is nice all year there, and also that it can get too cold to swim in the pool on the ship or the ocean. We would love to go in Feb. or even January.

The weather in the Carribbeans is really good year around, my girls swam in the pool every day even when it was rainy and colder, we live in Upstate NY so for us 60 degrees in winter is HOT....... We love cruising in February it is a great way to take a break during the winter months, we cruised once in August and it really was hot.

I agree!
We really enjoy going in February. It sure beats the weather here in MA. It's such a nice break. We went on a RCCL cruise in April, and had a great time, but the weather wasn't as much of a treat because spring had sprung. For us, even if it's "cool" by carribean standards, it's hot enough for us!

OT-- Just wanted to check in and say Hey especially to all you old Ossipee folks. Tomorrow we're off to Hawaii for the NCL cruise. I've booked some adventurous things, including the helicopter trip over Kauai. Wish us luck on the way too long plane flight.

For DCL we'll just wait for SWA and fly down on Friday night, probably staying near MCO. Love Amerisuites through Priceline. They have the best breakfast!

This may be a silly question. What are the cruises like during President's Week? I know WDW is crazy crowded, but I'm assuming there's only so crowded a ship can get? Thanks.

We have not cruised during President's week before, but all the cruises that we have taken (3) were full, so as you said it can only get that full......

We did a 3 night during presiden't week. The ship was full, but it didn't feel nearly as full as WDW during a busy time.

Thanks. I'm probably going to book tomorrow. I wasn't planning on doing a cruise so soon after out next trip to WDW, but at least I won't have to take my DS out of school. Yes, it's only pre-K, but he'll already be missing some days in December. I can also see making a tradition out of going cruising President's week.

I am thinking of changing my reservation and going down on Friday instead of Saturday. I called DCL and they said we can stay at the Hyatt Regency at the airport and then still use the Disney transportation. I just don't want my dd's to have to miss another day of school but I am worried that we may get bad weather and then have flight problems getting down to Florida. DH says it is up to me. Any thoughts??

I'd definitely go at least the day before. I am not an advocate of pulling kids from school (our district is sooo strict), but I am planning to go down on Thurs or Friday. I figure they won't miss much the day before vacation. I'd rather they miss a day of school, then a day of the cruise because of a storm.
Also, there are a bunch of us on this thread staying at the new Residence Inn in Cape Canaveral the night before, and we'll be planning a mini-meet before the cruise, if you're interested.

How are you getting from the airport to the hotel? We have already booked the DCL transfers.
