February 17, 2007

There has been some wintery mix in the rain throughout most of Louisiana but down south where Vivian and I both are, we've just have very cold rain.

The low here this morning, locally, was 33 degrees. We're up to a whopping 40 degrees which is still below our average temp for this time of year.

Did you lose electricity or have you been lucky?

We lost it for a while, but we have a fire place and got it going very quickly. The power wasn't out too long. Just as the other parts of the house started to feel really cold, it went back on. There are some people around here who didn't have power or heat for two days, and a small handful who don't have it today. We were very lucky!!

Christine--tell your family I am crazy too. ;) I have started packing a few things in a big box, and will divide them up as we get closer. I am debating whether to pack sunscreen or get it in FL. I'd have to pack it in my luggage because of the size, and it it exploded, even in a plastic bag, it would be pretty gross. eewww...

We started a Mickey countdown the other day. We trimmed the Mickey paint samples from Home Depot (thank you Home Depot!), I numbered them and we taped them to the mantle. Everyday taking down a Mickey, means the trip is getting closer. I too am starting to pick some things up. The picture mat is to get signed my the characters. I read on a thread that you can take it to guest services and they will get the characters to sign it. Apparently, there is a form that you fill out stating which characters you want to sign (princesses, Pooh, all...). The over the door hanger I had also read about on a thread. Some people have found them to be handy to keep little things organized. Especially since there will be 4 of us in one room. Sue, I know what you mean about the ice on the trees and bushes, we have that too. It looks like they are covered in glass, very pretty.

Vivian:

I'm just thinking now that the game I was supposed to cover last night for the paper was in Reserve! I would have been going close enough to you to hear me hollar from the Luling Bridge!!! I begged off of that game at Riverside so that I wouldn't have to cross an overpass and the river.

For everyone else . . . Vivian and I are only about 30 minutes away from each other! This is a small world.

Sue:
I'm so glad that you didn't have to go through a long period without electricity. Last year, after Hurricane Katrina, we had a generator installed for the house that operates on propane. It is large enough to operate almost the entire house.

Our tickers have no months on them!
30 days to go!!

Christine-remember when you started this thread sixteen months ago and we thought the cruise would never get here???!!

Our cruise appears to be very full (no surprise). I was playing around with different ideas (1 adult, 1 child, 2 adults, 1 child) and it seems not many staterooms are available.

It really is getting close, it did seem like we started this thread so long ago, well we did.........
I need to go to target again, I read tht they have all kind of pirate stuff for sale in the $ bins. We don't really dress up for pirate night but it might be fun for the kids to have a few props......

I thought the same thing. But when I checked the Target by us, the dollar bins had all been switched to Valentine's day stuff. Oh well... We don't really dress for Pirate Night either. Chris has a few small things, and the rest of us just dress tropical and wear the bandanas.

We just picked up many toy pirate items at a local Dollar Tree store, bandanas, swords, eye patches, etc. We also saw some dress up Pirates of the Caribbean stuff in the toy section at Walmart.

Sue:

I think they are doing some room upgrades already because of the availability of rooms that are now showing in Cat 11.

I checked 1 Adult and 1 16 yo and this is what I found:

Cat 4 -- 3
Cat 5 -- 1
Cat 6 -- 3
Cat 7 -- 8
Cat 8 - GTY
Cat 9 - GTY
Cat 10 - 5
Cat 11 -- 8

Okay -- Here's the hot tip for the day . . . .

Room 6634 has become available. I thought about switching but it would mean a room move for me on week 2 so --- nahhhhh.

What is good about 6634, you ask? It is a partially obstructed verandah room. It is a reclassified room from Cat 6 to Cat 7 -- a $420 savings.

Anyone game for switching their Cat 7 room for that one? If you go to http://castawayclub.com and click on Staterooms -- go to link for reclassified rooms 6634 and 7---something and you'll see the view.

PhotoLisa - I saw your pillow case in an old post. It looked awesome. How do I go about getting the signatures? Silly question -can I wash it? Thank you for all your help. I have printed off some of your other post to keep handy while planning. You have so much wonderful infromation. This is our second 7 day. Reading everyones post, I feel like I missed so many opportunities on our last one.

I cannot attest to the washability of the pillowcase. It depends on your method of application and choice of transfer paper. I have a ton to do before we leave -- one of which is to see if I can find a tshirt place that will do the transfer for me. I think it will have a greater chance to be washable if I can get them to do the transfer for me.

To get the signatures, just put the pillowcase in a ziploc and drop it off at Guest Services on embarkation day. They'll deliver it to your stateroom on the last night of your cruise.

HTH.

Lisa - which paper do you write for? I know a teacher at Riverside and have worked with some people that graduted from Riverside.

I'm a stringer for the Houma Courier and Daily Comet (Thibodaux). I cover St. James High, Assumption High, Thibodaux, South Lafourche, Central Lafourche, ED White as well as Nicholls State and LSU.

I know I can count on all of you to cry with me on this one . . . .

NOT

I had convinced Ed to do the westbound Panama Canal cruise on 5/10/08 until I remembered that Courtney will graduate (and Kelli too) in May 2008! I can almost guarantee that when I call the school, they tell me graduation will be on 5/23 since the cruise ends on 5/25.

We don't want to do the eastbound because it'll be hurricane season and living in south Louisiana, we wouldn't not want to be home to cover the windows and tie things down if we were to have a hurricane here.

I never plan that far in advance but when I saw the starting price at $1699 p/p, I figured it would be doable for 15 days!!!

I would love the do the eastbound cruise, the kids are still in school in May, so we can't pull them out, the issue is our work we both work for a university and the time of the westbound is when students come back...Oh well it is nice to dream.

I think I'll begin looking at Regent Seven Seas for cruises for us for 2008. It will be our first true vacation on our own after Courtney graduates from high school in May '08 (even though she wouldn't be coming on the repo anyway bc she would be in final exams). I know Ed is looking forward to when we're doing more things on our own. His children have been gone from home for a while now.

I just checked my ressies on-line and I found out I was upgraded from a Cat. 12 to a Cat. 9.:cool1: :cheer2: I get a port hole. I hope DCL dosen't change their minds.
